The Lower East Side, also known as LES, has experienced important changes throughout the last decades. It went from being a neighborhood known by the bohemian NYC society, to a place that lovingly sheltered European immigrants, and is now transforming into a destination where people go scouting for great restaurants and bars.
Three NYC Instagrammers (@CreateNYC, @BehindTheScenesNYC and @HiddenGemofNYC) joined forces and their constant curiosity “state of being”, to host a meetup to explore the neighborhood and its history. The project was designed to serve the community and market for those who are new or underserved in the neighborhood. Through the meetup, the group explored on interesting/hidden spots of LES and met the people who are making a difference to the community.
The guest walked around LES in a pre-determined route with 8 different businesses ranging from art galleries, graffiti spots (100 Gates Project) to coffee shops, restaurants and stores. The business owners/artists of each place briefly talked about their experience, gave all the participantes gifts, as well as shared their stories and knowledge of the neighborhood.
There was be a symbolic fee of $25 per person and all proceeds were donated to two a local charity that are a part of the LES Community - The Bowery Mission and The Tenement Museum.
