How to Make Your NYC Apartment More Liveable

It’s definitely amazing to live in a city like New York, but it’s not always easy. So, today we will show you how to make your NYC apartment more livable! Check it out!

Woman in NYC subway waiting to enter cart - Behind the Scenes NYC

For many people, living in New York City is the only option — there’s nowhere that they’d rather be.

The excitement, the buzz, the culture, and the convenience is something that you won’t find anywhere else.

It’s New York or nowhere, after all!

However, that doesn’t mean that every aspect of New York is incredible. The housing situation can be tough, and unless you’ve got millions in the bank, you’ll probably find that you have to work to make your apartment move liveable.

In this post, we’ll look at some handy tips that’ll ensure you can live in comfort, no matter the size of your NYC apartment or where it’s located.

Get to Know Your Neighbors

There’s a thing in New York, as there is in most big cities, whereby people don’t really know their neighbors. In some cases, they don’t even know their roommates.

But, there are a lot of advantages to getting to do so. You’ll find that things are much easier when you have people next door that can help you out when you need it (and you can help them out).

Plus, it’s just nicer to live in a place where you’re surrounded by friendly faces, rather than strangers.

Create Your Own Environment

You’ll live in New York because you live the buzz of life that the city provides. But also, it’s important to have your own space.

Your apartment should offer a breather from the mania of the outside world. But of course, this won’t automatically happen on its own! You’ll need to make it a reality.

You can do this by adding touches that make your apartment very much feel like your own. For instance, you could add plants, incense, and cozy lighting.

Get the Basics in Order

Life in New York can be tough — you don’t want to make it any more difficult for yourself than it needs to be! While the look and feel of your apartment matters, what really counts is that your apartment functions well.

All the basics should be taken care of. A problem with your appliance can be misery-inducing, especially after a long day at work. You can prevent these problems by learning how to fix basic problems.

If you know how to troubleshoot a leaky fridge, fix a leaky drain, and replace a showerhead, then you’ll be in a good position to keep your apartment working exactly as it should.

For some things, you’ll need to call a professional — but you’ll likely find that you can handle most jobs yourself, with a little bit of knowledge.

Increase Your Security

New York is awesome, yes, but it can also be dangerous.

While it’s highly unlikely that you’ll experience any problems, it’s best not to take any chances.

Investing in your apartment’s security will both make it less likely that you’ll be targeted and give you the peace of mind you need to really relax while you’re at home (and when you’re traveling).

Upgrading your locks and securing any access points will all make you feel safer.

4 Tips to Adding More Style and Comfort to Your NYC Apartment

4 Tips to Adding More Style and Comfort to Your NYC Apartment Behind the Scenes NYC

Today, will share 4 tips to adding more style and comfort to your NYC Apartment. Check it out below!

4 Tips to Adding More Style and Comfort to Your NYC Apartment Behind the Scenes NYC

Living in a cramped, tiny apartment in New York City can be difficult, so come see how to add style and comfort to your NYC apartment!

The rent is high, yes! The space is limited, yes! And…everyone else on your block has a nicer place than you.

But don’t despair!

There are ways to add style and comfort to your NYC apartment without spending a fortune. This blog post will discuss four tips that will help you make your apartment feel more like home.

#1 Get rid of clutter

One of the quickest and easiest ways to make your apartment feel more stylish and comfortable is to declutter.

Go through your belongings and get rid of anything you don’t use or need. This will give you more space, but it will also make cleaning much more accessible.

If you have trouble getting rid of things, consider renting a storage unit for items that you can’t part with but don’t need on a daily basis.

This will free up valuable space in your apartment and allow you to keep important items. Decluttering can be a daunting task, but it’s worth it in the end.

Your home will thank you!

#2 Add some plants

Another way to add style and comfort to your NYC apartment is to add some plants. Plants can brighten up any space and make it feel more inviting.

They also help to purify the air, which is always a bonus in a city like New York. If you’re unsure where to start, consider getting a potted plant or two for your windowsills.

Or, if you have outdoor space, try adding some hanging plants or potted flowers.

Adding plants to your home is a simple way to make it feel more comfortable and stylish.

#3 Change up your furniture

If you’re tired of looking at the same old furniture, consider changing it up. You don’t have to buy new furniture to do this – simply rearranging your existing pieces can make a big difference.

If you don’t have much furniture, to begin with, try borrowing some from friends or family members.

Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try shopping at thrift stores or yard sales. You never know what you might find!

Changing up your furniture is a great way to add style and comfort to your NYC apartment without breaking the bank.

#4 Personalize your space

One of the best ways to make your apartment feel like home is to personalize it.

For example, hang up some photos, add some artwork, or put up shelves with your favorite books. Anything that makes the space feel more like you will help to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

New York City has some amazing vintage decor shops to source unique items as well!

You can also top it off with some motion sensor lights you can find online from companies like ECOGEAR FX.

If you’re unsure where to start, try looking for ideas online or in magazines. There are endless possibilities for personalizing your home, so get creative!

There are many ways to add style and comfort to your NYC apartment.

By decluttering, adding plants, changing up your furniture, and personalizing your space, you can make your home feel more like home.

So, get started today and see the difference! Your home will thank you.

Madame Matove is definitely one of the best kept secrets in the West Village. It’s even hard to spot it, since it’s hidden behind a tiny door and small façade.

The owner, Rosemary Wettenhall, is originally from Uganda and travels the world curating some of the most amazing pieces you’ll ever see. Her keen eye is surely what makes her store so special.

Many of her favorite spots to scout new findings are in France and Italy. And, some pieces have even been found here, in New York City.

As she says, you only have to have your eyes open.

On this day, I actually found a fantastic 1980’s embroidered dress, that had a 1920’s vibe, and costed $300.

Oh, and the selection of accessories – from jewelry items, to bags and eyewear are also incredible. So, as I mentioned, take your time to explore this tiny store, that will change your close!

After the 1st time I pass by Narnia, walked in and left the store with a beauty Oscar de la Renta black leather skirt for $95, I became obsessed with them. Every now and then I pass by and go crazy with all the new pieces they carefully curated.

We’ve written about Naria before and we continue begins surprised by their fantastic work.

As we’ve mentioned, their prices range from $75 – $250, but of course you can find some lower priced goodies, as well as more expensive and special items.

During this last visit, I bumped into a few very special finding and it was hard to control myself! I found a beautiful Missoni dress, a Marni shorts, a flowered Dries Van Noten skirt and a to-die-for Lanvin trench coat that almost brought tears to my eyes! Hahaha!

In addition, they have some beautiful accessories and if you’re into the boho style, this is the place you should go to! And, do go with time, because vintage stores should not be visited if you in a rush!

It was a regular Sunday afternoon when my brother invited me to join him, my sister-in-law and my niece in the East Village. While we were walking my sis-in-law told me she was looking for a mirror for their house in New Jersey. Well, I love antiques and I suggested her to explore different antique stores around town.

When we started walking along Bowery Street, I could see a big pink elephant from the distance. It really got my attention. And I must tell you all, that elephant is still on my mind!

When we got closer, we realized it was exactly what we were looking for: a vintage furniture store. Olde Good Things was there, waiting for us! A popular song says “Girls just wanna have fun”. And on my list of having fun is home décor shopping, for sure!

The store is incredible. It’s spread out in two levels and offers a wide selection of pieces. You can find pretty much everything for your home. Objects you can’t even imagine exist. From garden pieces to suitcases and doors, from lighting to kitchen utensils.

They offer a huge collection of antiques in different shapes, colors, prices and even origins.

Service was excellent. A guy introduced himself to us and made us feel at ease. He cheerfully and knowledgeably gave information about all the pieces we indicated and questioned. And believe me, I had many questions!

We were trying to focus on our mission: finding a mirror that would match their dining room. But everything was so beautiful and unique that we spent some time “flirting” with countless other objects, as well.

Before we hit the mirrors section, I checked almost every dresser they had in store at that time. Who doesn’t love dressers? I do. Most of them were handmade architectural pieces.

I fell in love with the chandeliers too. Big ones, smaller ones, made of glass, crystal, Greek style…I wish I could have taken all of them home with me (lol)!

After checking and asking about many objects we – FINALLY – made it to the mirrors.

Olde Good Things has an incredible selection. The difficult part was choosing only one, but my sister-in-law was able to find the perfect one: a distressed framed mirror. Gorgeous!

We left the store feeling great and with our mission accomplished! We had a blast. The experience was outstanding. Getting to know so many artistic and historical work, made our day quite special. Of course, finding the perfect mirror was nice, but the experience we went through was priceless.

I’m definitely going back any time soon and I encourage you to do the same. After you visit, let us know what you thought!

So, have fun exploring and if you’re really in to vintage, take a look at some vintage stores in Brooklyn that we love, a jewelry vintage gem in Chelsea and still, the vintage store top fashion Instagrammers around the globe just love.

Hours: Stores have different hours, so please check online.

Exploring The Coolest Spots In Industry City, Sunset Park

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists Industry City Frying Pan BK Outdoor Area

Some of New York’s coolest spots are located in Industry City. This area of Brooklyn has been completely transformed from old warehouses, into a fantastic center with thriving local Brooklyn-based businesses!

Back in the 1890’s Sunset Park, in Brooklyn, was full of warehouses and distribution centers.

Industry City was called Bush Terminal and in no time, had over 25,000 daily workers, transforming it into one of the world’s major international seaports.

By the 1960’s businesses started to close down and the area was practically abandoned for over 40 years.

Finally, in 2013, a new group started to renovate and redevelop the area. Today, they’ve created over 2,000 jobs and have leased over 2million square feet to new local businesses that are now thriving!

We came here today to show you a few of the coolest spots to visit, while you in the neighborhood!

This is one of the best ideas ever launched in New York! Why? Well, if you live here, you’re probably a huge fan of avocados too!

Avocaderia has so many variations in how to prepare this unique single-seeded fruit, from savory dishes to sweet ones. They are the first avocado-bar with a menu filled with different toasts, salads and bowls, smoothies, sweets and some special creations, like the Avo Burger.

To kill your curiosity about what an Avo Burger is, here you go: avocado, smoked salmon, arugula, pico de gallo, herb yogurt dressing, everything bagel seasoning, quinoa, watermelon radish and lime citronette, served with baked pita chips. Oh. My. God. Right!? I’m salivating just  writing about it!

Francesco Brachetti, one of the 3 Co-Owners, shared with us which are the best sellers, so be sure to go try it out, asap! Yum!

A Different Type of NYC Truck: Uprooted Flower Truck

Shop Specialties UpRooted Flower Truck Client

New York City is known for the countless food trucks roaming tirelessly around the city. You can find food trucks, ice cream trucks, juice trucks and even fashion trucks. But, Uprooted Flower Truck is the one and only, flower truck!

Uprooted describes themselves are “NYC’s florist on wheels”, which I think is pretty awesome. They are pioneers in launching this business and we have to agree that if you’re a pioneer in NY, you’ll most likely thrive!

It all started back in April of 2015, the exact month that I actually moved from my hometown São Paulo, Brazil to New York City!! What an exciting month! Hahaha!

Founders Ashley Custer and Kristin Heckler ran a super successful Kickstarter campaign, raised $15,000 and started their entrepreneurial path! And, what a journey!

New York is known for being the birth city of countless successful startups, but is quite tough having a brilliant idea no one has thought about, right?

When I met Ashley, back in February of 2016, she told me that her very first job was working at a flower shop, at the age of 14.  She majored in Criminal Justice at Temple University, but felt totally uninspired with the current social system. When she moved to NY with Kristen, her Co-Founder and Partner, she got back to working with flowers to brighten people’s lives – and also, her own.

On the other hand, Kristen, always had an entrepreneurial spirit. As her first job, she founded a local event planning business in her hometown: Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She studied Women’s Studies and Spanish at Duke University, but chose to follow a career as a Theater Director. That was actually what brought the duo to NYC in 2013. Kristin was going to attend her MFA at The New School. Today, she continues to self-produce theatre as well as working on Uprooted Flower Truck.

So, let’s talk about the truck!

The truck has a floral cooler, electrical system, work counters, and sink with hot water – surely a fully functional florist on wheels! Plus, there is no way to miss it, when it passes by or is parked somewhere around the city. It’s gorgeous and with beautiful bright colors!

Flower bouquets are prepared and sold in three sizes – “the studio”, “the loft”, and “the penthouse” ranging from $12 – $45. Pretty good price for NYC!!!

Are you organizing an event? Needing new ideas of how to “wow” your clients, your team or your friends & family can be quite exhausting. We certainly know how event planning can be crazy! Phiuf! So, besides being able to have all your flower arrangements organized by Uprooted Flower Truck, have you ever thought about actually “booking a truck”? They organize custom floral events including bouquet bars, flower crowns, & branded bloom giveaways.

And, of course, weddings! I love everything about wedding, but the flower decoration is something I always look forward to! Why? Well, I have friends in the flower business in Brazil and became passionate about it! Anyway, their arrangements are certainly the style I want for my own wedding. They’re extremely colorful, with exotic flowers, unique arrangements and that no one will ever have the same! So, talk to the girls to explain what you want for your wedding!

Now, if you’re the type that loves Doing It Yourself (DIY), the girls organize pretty cool workshops to learn how to make the perfect flower arrangements.

You’ll be sure to learn all the tips and tricks behind doing the perfect vase and bouquets. I had an “express” course when we shot the YouTube video and was amazed at little tricks that make all the difference on the final result!

And lastly, if you live in New York and love having you home weekly decorated with beautiful flowers, but like every true New Yorker, you have absolutely no time to refill your vases, take a look at the Uprooted Subscription! Besides saving money, it’ll save you tons of time and fill your home with gorgeous arrangements. As they explain:

“Treat yourself or one of your favorites with a gift that keeps blooming! Choose your delivery dates, tell us about your preferences & we’ll send you the freshest flowers in town!”

We are sure you’ll enjoy it!

If you want to really go “pro”, take a look at the post we wrote about the Flower School in NYC.

Hours & Locations: Uprooted Flower Truck hits the NYC streets Thursday through Sunday each week. Follow them on Instagram and Twitter for exact parking locations and other surprise pop-ups!

The 5 Top Coffee Shops in Greenpoint Brooklyn

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists 5 Top Coffee Shops Greenpoint Sweetleaf Coffee Roasters

I love coffee and exploring new spots and revisiting old ones is always a thrill! Today I share my 5 top coffee shops in Greenpoint, Brooklyn! If you are also a coffee fan, go check them out!

Yes, everyone that knows me, knows that I’m c-o-m-p-l-e-t-e-l-y addicted to coffee (good coffee!) and I drink it throughout my entire day! Being Brazilian, I think it’s just a natural part of me. Ha!

I have friends that tell me that if they drink coffee after lunch time, they can’t sleep at night. And, that just sounds so crazy… I can literally drink a gallon on coffee at night, roll over and sleep like a baby.

That said, I love exploring all the new coffee shops in New York. We also have some pretty amazing traditional ones that are still going strong. Those bigger chains are certainly not up my alley at all. I like the smaller ones, independently owned that roast their own coffee and the smell just fills up the entire place.

We’ve already shared the 5 best bars in Greenpoint I love.

So, today I’m sharing my favorite and 5 top coffee shops in Greenpoint. After all, I do love everything about that neighborhood.

Maman

If you enjoy good coffee and pastries, you’ve probably already heard of Maman.

The name means “mom” in French and the owners were inspired by their childhood memories of their mother’s recipes! They’ve got countless pretty tasty pastries, as well as savory options and healthy salads.

Besides this Greenpoint spot, they have a few other locations in the city, in the neighborhoods of Soho, Tribeca, Nomad and the Meatpacking District.

Each location is a bit different from the other and the one in Tribeca is also one of my favorites, for the have a great restaurant in the back!

Hours:
Monday – Friday: 7am – 6pm
Saturday – Sunday: 8am – 6pm
Brunch: Saturday – Sunday: 9am – 4pm

Location: 80 Kent Street

Búdin

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists 5 Top Coffee Shops Greenpoint Budin

Búdin was founded back in 2013 and serves not only tasty Scandinavian specialty coffees, but it also has a craft beer and wine bar. The Nordic menu offers sandwiches, salads and delicious Swedish pancakes.

One of the dishes I love is the Portobello + Fennel Sandwich with portobello cap, caramelized onions, fennel, whole grain Dijon mustard on a baguette.

But wait! That’s not all! In the back, they have a small, but pretty awesome design shop and an opened patio! The design shop brings together a curation of Japanese brands selling t-shirts, accessories and even a few jewelry pieces.

NOTE: On June 12th, Búdin sent out a message saying: “Due to an ongoing dispute with our landlord we have been forced to shut down for a while. We thank you for all the good times and hope to have more soon. We are trying to resolve the issue and find a positive solution as quickly as possible, be it reopening at our current location or finding a new home in Brooklyn.”

So, we’ll keep our eyes open to share their new spot!

Hours:
Monday – Thursday: 7am – 12am
Friday: 7am – 1am
Saturday: 8am – 1am
Sunday: 8am – 12am

Location: New spot to be announced!

Sweetleaf Coffee Roasters

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists 5 Top Coffee Shops Greenpoint Sweetleaf Coffee Roasters

Probably the first thing you’ll notice while entering Sweetleaf, is the décor. It has beautiful brick walls, original wood beams, as well as a fantastic variety of antique furniture collected from all over the world!

Besides the amazing smell when you walk in, it’s also very laptop friendly if you need to pull it out and work a bit!

They have a few other locations, but this one is the one that actually houses the roastery in the back. Don’t forget to peek inside to see the coffee being done.

Hours:
Monday – Friday: 7am – 7pm
Saturday – Sunday: 8am – 7pm

Location: 159 Freeman Street

Homecoming

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists 5 Top Coffee Shops Greenpoint Homecoming

Homecoming is certainly a different style coffee shop. Why? Because they have not only a charming flower shop inside, but they also sell accessories from amazing designers.

You’ll find everything from apparel, apothecary, objects for your home, jewelry, notebooks and planners, and even some creative gift cards!

It’s a great place to swing by for coffee and also check out the products if you’re looking for a special gift for a friend or loved one.

They also have a 2nd location in Williamsburg, at 92 Berry Street.

Hours:
Monday – Friday: 7:30am – 7pm
Saturday – Sunday: 9am – 7pm

Location: 107 Franklin Street

Champion Coffee

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists 5 Top Coffee Shops Greenpoint Champion Coffee

Even though Champion Coffee’s first location dates back to 2006, the North Greenpoint spot is kinda new and opened just a few years back in 2016.

You can also take their coffee home. They roast their beans in Maspeth, Queens and have 3 flavors: Decaf, Drip Blend and Espresso. The spot also serves a nice breakfast and lunch with a few options of sandwiches and salads.

They have 2 locations in Brooklyn with a 3rd one that just launched! Where? Inside the North 3rd Street Market, in Williamsburg, that opened a few weeks back and unites 25 fantastic vendors in one spot!

In Manhattan they have 2 locations and the 3rd one is on its way!

“This is a big statement, but I stand by it: Bistro Petit is the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. It’s a charming little spot – only fitting about a dozen or so people into the entire space – and you can’t help but to fall in love. The cuisine is French/Korean fusion, and BYOB. For the perfect date night, bring a bottle of red, and sit on the bar stools for a view of the kitchen and sit side by side with your date.”

The owner and chef, Sung Park, is truly an artist, in the kitchen. His bold and innovative cooking style is surely what makes the difference for his guests, and obviously, what makes them come back.

Located in South Williamsburg, they explain that they only use only use the freshest seasonal ingredients, local produce, natural organics, grass fed beef, local fish, and free-range chicken.

Plus, for vegetarians, they have great options, so don’t worry about it! You can go and be sure to have a great time!

Erie Basin

Curiosities Insider Interviews Kelley Louise Erie Basin Jewelry Antiques

“An exceptionally well-curated collection of jewelry (both vintage and new pieces that were crafted using antique stones), pretty much everything you see at Erie Basin is one of a kind. Even if you’re not ready to invest in your next piece of fine jewelry, they’re worth the follow on Instagram for some daydreaming.”

Launched in 2006, the store is located in the far end of Brooklyn in a neighborhood we adore called Red Hook! They are “specialized in antique and vintage jewelry, but also have a selection of furniture, art, and objects dating from the 18th to mid 20th century.”

The brand is, up to date, basically a one-man show, and was founded by Russell Whitmore. An avid collector and antique lover, Whitmore launched in 2014 a fantastic collection around antique gemstones he has collected and many are exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces.

Emily and Abigail (the Wanderlust Girls) met in middle school many eons ago (18 years to be exact), in a small town just outside of Boston.

They grew up sharing a love for fashion, rock’n’roll and adventure. These shared interested morphed into a blog, WanderLust Girls back in 2010, which has since grown into the fashion, lifestyle, travel brand they run today.

The girls recently expanded their business down in Nashville, which you will be seeing more of on their social media soon.

If they are not in Nashville hanging with rock stars or repping their black clad closets on the New York City streets, they are likely in the air jetting to a new location for their next travel piece.

As they say, this is literally a “A Rock’N’Roll clothing store for everybody”! The store is true a labor of love and dedication. You’ll certainly love it all: from the goo goo muck chandelier to the hand pained zebra stripe dressing rooms and painting on the walls!

They are a multi-label store in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and always have big names coming by! A few famous friends in their list are: the one and only Ewan McGregor, Slash, Alice Cooper and Duff McKagan!

Duff’s Brooklyn

Curiosities Insider Interviews Wanderlust Girls Duffs Brooklyn

“If you ever wanted to sit in an electric chair, look no further! Duff’s Brooklyn has its very own, as well as some of the creepiest, yet amazing decor we’ve ever seen. Enjoy some metal music and don’t forget to spin the wheel to win various prizes. Keep spinning until you get the Jesus juice.”

Founded in 1999 back in the neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, in Manhattan, this metal mecca finally moved into Brooklyn in 2004 and is the place to go if you a heavy metal lover. If you’re not part of this lifestyle, it’s still a fantastic place to go explore and broaden your horizons.

The spot, now located in South Williamsburg, is certainly a true metal place. Names like Pantera, Iron Maiden, Kerry King of Slayer, Exodus, Machine Head, The Sword, and many others have visited it.

Let’s rock!

Jane Motorcycles

“Jane Motorcycles is our favorite place to go scope for beautiful bearded motorcycle riding men… I mean they have great coffee, that’s why we go. This beautifully curated moto gear shop surrounds the actually really great coffee shop. It’s amazing in the nice weather when they open the garage style door and you can enjoy your latté will gazing at all the motorcycles lined up outside.”

This is the ultimate NYC’s custom motorcycles, apparel, gear, art, books, and espresso shop, and we love it too! Alexander DiMattio and Adam Kallen started Jane with the objective of putting a new take on a motorcycle shop. And…they did it flawlessly!

These guys are from Brooklyn and everything in their store translates the vibe of the neighborhood and the lifestyle they personally enjoy.

They literally created this store out of scratch – actually it’s not their original location, since they were forced to move out of their other place. But, a blessing in disguise, for sure. At this spot, they were able to transform into reality all their dreams of what their store should looks like, such as the huge coffee counter and the garage door roll-up.

We are also huge coffee lovers, and their coffee partner is delicious, with ethically source coffee from all over the world – totally up our alley, since we work with and support sustainable traveling!

Definitely a must-go spot!

This is also a place we enjoy a lot!

Pink, in the Lower East Side, is a great spot to go for drinks, good music, a great crowd and even to celebrate your birthday.

They have a pretty cool private room in the back, if you prefer having your guests all together and more comfortable.

UNFORTUNATELY THIS RESTAURANT IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED!

“Three of Cups, if you’re are in the mood for a delicious Italian meal and some light death metal you are in the right spot. On street level Three of Cups is a beautiful restaurant with drool-worthy pizzas and pasta dishes. Meanwhile, the basement has pretty heavy metal music playing, leopard print poles, and a badass crowd.”

Who doesn’t love Italian food made from these old family recipes and pizzas, right?

Located in the East Village, Three of Cups was founded back in 1992 and they really know the essence in making good pizza.

If you’re not that into pizza – if this even exists, lol – their food menu comes from recipes from the Southern Italian regions like Sicily, Naples and Bari.

And still, if you’re into pizza and pasta but keep track of all the calories you eat, don’t worry…they have delicious gluten-free options on the menu.

Gutter Bar

Curiosities Insider Interviews Wanderlust Girls The Gutter
Our Founder, Fê, with her friends at The Gutter, in Williamsburg.

“Gutter Bar Brooklyn, has great cheap whiskey and a retro style bowling alley in the back. Equipped with 8 lanes to show off your skills. They also have a pool table. It’s a really great place to go with a group of friends on a cold winter day.”

We were so excited to see the Gutter Bar as part of Emily’s and Abigail’s list! This is a spot that we go a lot to and always have a great time!

Now, don’t expect a super fancy bowling alley because, as the girls mentioned, it’s a retro style one. But, then again, who need fancy to have fun, right?

They have a full bar, a pool table (be sure to place your Quarter on the table to get in line) and the bowling alley. Oh! And after passing by the restrooms, you’ll see another room! Walk in! They have a stage with live music and a dance floor!

It can be a while – a few hours – until you play, so you can arrive early, or just get your number and enjoy the bar until your time comes.

“Obscura Antiques, a small antique and oddities shop located in the East Village. We once got a bat skeleton there! So, if you’re in the market for bones, taxidermy, or even a Romanian AK-47 Bayonet, you hit the jackpot! Give yourself at least an hour to look through everything. You’ll find some gems for sure.”

Looking through these old antiques and oddities is certainly a journey into the past and can be quite amusing if you let your mind fly.

They are the oldest shop in this category in NYC and they ‘carry medical, scientific, natural history, fraternal, circus/sideshow, and all things unusual’.

Plus, as they mentioned, we also believe it’s a great place to find a unique gift. Well, it will certainly be a gift your loved one will remember forever!

Enjoy your exploration!

The Artists & Fleas market in Williamsburg does get a bit crowded and you will bump into tourists there, fact. But, they have some of the most amazing vendors with extremely unique pieces and great prices!

We passed by a stand showcasing a brand called TightRope and our Founder, Fê Paronetto, wanted to buy every single thing they had! Victoria, one of the owners, explained a little bit about the brand for us.

They are experts in furniture and lighting and have a great range of products with creative designs, mostly made out of beautiful wood.

The company was founded in 2013, in Brooklyn, by Quang Hong and Victoria Young.

As they better explain:

“We work with solid wood, mild and stainless steel, aluminum, glass, and magnets. Our designs strive to balance the old with the new and the organic with the machined. We love the possibilities technology of today presents to us while still utilizing the century old techniques of woodworking, metalworking, and glassblowing. Plus, by combining these aesthetics, techniques, and technology, we have created designs you won’t see anywhere else.”

In addition, the items vary from furniture and lighting, to bulbs and small décor objects.

Some of our tops picks were:

  • Walnut Ladder – $450.00
  • Q-Bot – from $450.00
  • Bubinga Tea Candle Holders – $111.00
  • Wooden Air Plant Holder – $20.00
  • Walnut V-Leg Coffee Table – $1,500.00
  • Ladder Shelf – $2,750.00

So, they are also great if you are looking for a custom made project to make your some or business even nicer! They’ve done some great works that you can check on their website too!

Plus, we’re sure you will also, like Fê, want to purchase everything.

Have fun and take some time the explore the neighborhood.
