We hosted an amazing Meet-Up to explore the Lower East Side of Manhattan called #UncoverLES! The Lower East Side, also known as LES, has experienced important changes throughout the last decades and we wanted to share it’s story with the curious ones!
The Lower East Side went from being a neighborhood known by the bohemian NYC society, to a place that sheltered European immigrants. Now, it’s transforming into a destination where people scout for great restaurants and bars.
So, we joined forces and hosted this event with 2 great Instagrammer friends Create NYC and Hidden Gem of NYC.
Uniting our constant curious “state of being”, we decided to create a meet-up. The idea was to explore the neighborhood and its history. We designed the project to serve the community. We wanted to market for those who are new or underserved in the neighborhood.
Through out the meet-up, the group explored interesting and hidden spots of LES. The group met the people who are making a difference to the community.
To start, the guests walked around in a pre-determined route. We organized the experience with around 10 different businesses. The venues ranged from art galleries, graffiti spots (100 Gates Project), to coffee shops, restaurants and stores.
As a result, the business owners and artists of each place talked about their experiences. They also shared their stories and knowledge of the neighborhood.
Also, there was a symbolic fee of $25 per person. We donated all proceeds to local charities that are a part of the LES Community. These charities were: The Bowery Mission and the Tenement Museum.
Below, the list of our Presenting Sponsors in this project: TheTenementMuseum, ShakeShack, BoweryMission, HesterStreetFair and other amazing companies!
