Swing 46 is one of the oldest restaurants in NY that plays live music and has a dance floor for its guests. It is not a big dance floor, but you can show off your basic moves or watch amazing swing dancers making their performances.

Here, live bands usually play a mix of some ballroom music, like Foxtrot, Rumba and Swing, as well as some hits from Lindy Hop and Jitterbug Era. They are open every evening for dancing and lessons start at 9pm. To get in you need to pay music charge of $15 – $20, depending on the day of the week.

I would recommend to go in the beginning of the week if you would like to dance, and Thursday to Saturday if you would like to watch.”

This Jazz and Swing Dance Club was founded in June of 1997 in Hell’s Kitchen. They offer a good menu with American Fare dishes prepared with the carefully sourced ingredients. Their sauces and dressings are homemade, as well as their freshly baked bread.

If you’re in the mood for Happy Hour, they have it daily from 5pm to 7pm, with half price drink specials at the bar.

Hours: Daily from 5pm – 1am

Many people believe that the best NYC hotels are located in Manhattan. So, we decided to show you one of our favorite hotels in New York, located in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn!

The 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge officially opened this past February and in no time, became the new hot spot to stay (and play!), when in NY.

“Thoughtfully designed. Intentionally built.”

It’s the 3rd property of the group, that has a hotel in South Beach – Miami and their 1st NYC location in Midtown Manhattan, steps away from Central Park.

Not only is the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge strategically located by the Brooklyn Bridge – with one of Brooklyn’s prime views of Manhattan, but the entire concept behind the property is pretty cool.

To start, the group behind these properties is active and implements sustainable practices and techniques throughout all their hotels.

We are all about working and supporting Sustainable Travelling – a topic widely discussed this year after the United Nations announced 2017 as the Year of Sustainability.

The idea that travelers today are looking for “smart travel” where you can have fun and, in addition, leave a positive impact in the local community, is growing and what we hope will soon go mainstream.

Moreover, as we discussed at an event we recently sponsored called Travel+SocialGood Summit, sustainable traveling should not be a topic of discussion, since all traveling should be sustainable.

The 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is aligned with the 3 pillar of Sustainable Traveling: Social, Economic and Environmental.

So, lets talk about their amenities!

Hotels 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge Dumbo View

To start, the gorgeous rooms are decorated reclaimed woods, industrial steel, 100% organic cotton sheets and custom hemp-blend mattress by Keetsa. We enjoy the floor-to-ceiling windows – many of which feature an unobstructed view of New York City!

We love cool bathrooms. You can expect bathrooms equipped with robes, socks and soft cotton-knit towels. Plus, their design is pretty unique and integrated perfectly into the room. The interesting and sustainable aspect of it, is that they use triple-filtered rain showers, that come from the rainwater tank built beneath the hotel.

If you want to stay their in grand style, check out the Riverhouse Room, a.k.a. Presidential Suite. It has 3 bedrooms in a 2,000 square foot space, carved stone tub and artwork by fantastic local artisan. And still, a super cool curated minibar where you’ll find some house-made cocktail recipes. How much better can it get? Well, from your bed you have a priceless view of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan’s skyline!

In addition, the hotel offers some delicious restaurant and food & drink options!

Their main restaurant is called The Osprey. As they explain, they serve “market driven American comfort food” and just recently opened early November. The restauranteur behind it is the expert, Matt Abramcyk, known for places like Yves, Warren 77, Tiny’s and Beatrice Inn, where our Insider Interviewee, Natalie Klein, recommended a while back. Matt partnered with chef Michael Oliver and brought in chef Mike Poiarkoff to run the cuisine. The décor, of course, if fabulous with floor-to-ceiling windows and a great view of Brooklyn Bridge Park. They are open daily for dinner at 5:30pm.

Their café, Neighbors, worked exclusively with local Brooklyn purveyors offering super fresh, healthy and seasonal products.

Located at their lobby area, the café receives natural sunlight – a perfect scenery. Their menu offers countless beverages, smoothies and Devoción coffee. In addition, for breakfast they have delicious sandwiches, pastries, granolas, bagels and eggs. Lunch and dinner menus are abundant with soups, salads, sandwiches, sweets and options for the kids. And, they have a fantastic curated selection of ready-made Brooklyn artisanal goods.

The 1 Rooftop is the place to be, especially during the hot and deliciously humid months of the year. Yes. We love “humid” day. They have outdoor seating, full-bar service, great music, beautiful and energetic crowd, tasty bites and a seasonal rooftop pool. It’s a great place to go for drinks or celebrate a birthday with friends! The view? Yup. Priceless! Seeing the sunset and the Manhattan lights lighting up is surely the ultimate Brooklyn sunset experience. They’re open daily from 6am – 10pm.

Hotels 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge Dumbo Rooftop
View from the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge rooftop.

And still, the Lobby Lounge is an excellent option for drinks before dinner or before going out at night. They focus on local botanicals, local beers and seasonally foraged ingredients. We love it! They open daily from 4pm through 11:30pm.

After spending a long and exhausting day exploring New York, we can’t forget to mention the Bamford Haybarn Spa!

Open daily from 10am – 8pm, the spa offers a tempting selection of holistic treatments focused on nourishing you from inside out: body – mind – sprit, as they say. All products are made with natural and organic ingredients organically certified. Treatments happen in one of their 12 treatment rooms start with a default hand-and-foot ritual. They range from facials, body treatments, massages, manicures & pedicures and grooming.

Also, this is most certainly a place we recommend to consider if you’re planning a NYC Wedding, a birthday, an important celebration or even a work event. If you’re not certain where to start organizing it all, let our experts help you out and for Corporate Requests, we can assist you too.

For the pet-lovers, they are pet-friendly! Just note: your pet should be under 40lb (18kg). They also state that you have “another kind of pet”, they’re happy to try and accommodate them! And, if you want to see other pet-friendly places to stay – mostly apartments to rent – check out the post by Alltherooms talking about the “6 Lovable Dog-Friendly Places in New York“.

Finally, stay tuned for their upcoming openings: West Hollywood in California (2018), Sanya in China (2018), Cabo in Mexico (2019) and Sunnyvale in California (2019).

Antonia Greco: A Love Guru UnCovers NYC’s Dating Scene

If you’ve just moved to this beautiful, tireless city, or if you’ve been in New York City long enough, you will notice two topics that will always (and we mean, always!) come up during dinners or bar conversations:

  1. RENT! It’s amazing how people are eager to know how much you pay for rent and all the amenities you have in your building to justify the high prices. Note: It does not matter if they just met you, they WILL boldly ask…
  2. DATING! The “Dating Scene” in New York is, without a doubt, unique and different from anywhere else on this planet! It’s a battle to figure out all the do’s and don’ts, right? So, after you do, and everything seams to be flowing well with your beau…BOOM! The guy dumps you…

With the Dating topic in mind, our Contributor Ari Crane interviewed Antonia Greco, a NYC-based Dating and Relationship Expert for the New York Dating Coach. She is also the co-author of “Who Lies More, Men or Women? 6 Ways to Succeed in Dating, Relationships, and Life”.

Over the past eight years, Antonia’s worked one-on-one with clients of all ages to help them meet partners, date successfully, and has had a helping hand in several marriages.

In her spare time, she likes to run, fuss over cute dogs, play piano and bake pies.

“A question I often get asked by singles is ‘Where can I go to meet people?’ — Simply put, you can meet people anywhere you go. It’s just a matter of having the guts to open the dialogue and/or be approachable. That said, it’s beneficial to pick places that reflect something about your lifestyle, your passions, or something new you’d like to try.”

Here are Antonia’s top picks in the City! Do check them out and, who knows, maybe you’ll find your partner in crime, for life.

Get Fit with World Famous Fight Experts at Renzo Gracie Fight Academy

Fitness Health Renzo Gracie Fight Academy Fernanda Paronetto Daniel Gracie Nica

I worked today from one of the places I love the most, in Williamsburg, when two guys arrived and sat beside me, at the bar. I’m great at starting conversations with random strangers and this time, it lead me to learn more about Renzo Gracie Fight Academy NYC where world famous fight experts meet.

I always say that every cool girl, is half boy. Impossible not to agree, right!? While I was working today from Beco Bar, today I started a conversation with two guys.

These guys were Daniel Gracie and Nica. They start telling me about their Fight Academy just around the corner called Renzo Gracie Fight Academy.

I was crazy looking for a good place to go back to practicing Muay Thai, which I practiced for over 1 year back home. So, I’m definitely signing up with them later today for classes!

Their 1st academy was Founded by the famous Renzo Gracie 20 years ago. It opened right across from the Madison Square Garden where they still are today.

Many of their students were based in Brooklyn, so in 2011, they opened the Williamsburg location. There they have modalities like the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai, but they also have spaces dedicated for weight training. Classes are not only for adults, but also for kids!

It’s surely one of the best fighting academies in NY  and I knew about them from back home in Brazil. Famous guys like Anthony Bourdain and Guy Ritchie have trained there too!

Daniel told me one of the funniest stories that happened with him and Guy Ritchie.

He was always training with Guy, and one night Guy asked “Do you want to come with me tonight to my wife’s show?”, and Daniel answered “Yeah, of course!”.

They got into Guy’s car and when Daniel noticed, they were entering Madison Square Garden. So, he asked Guy, “Wow, your wife must be pretty famous to be singing here!”

Obviously, Guy thought that Daniel was joking and he called Renzo Gracie telling what had just happened. He handed over the phone so Daniel and Renzo could talk, when Renzo said, “Daniel, that is Guy Richie!”

Daniel had no idea that he was THE Guy Richie, even though he loves Guy’s work as a movie director. He turned in amazement and said, “No way! I love your work! I think you’re one of the best film directors in the World!” Hahaha…

Well, obviously they still train together and are close friends today.

Daniel and Nica, thank you so much for a great “bar talk” and see you guys soon on the fighting floor!

Oh! If you like UFC, on November 12th, the 1st UFC will be hosted in NYC at the Madison Square Garden. Their academy will have 5 students fighting the Championship!!

“It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.” ~ Edmund Hillary

Brooklyn Boulders is one of the greatest workouts to have a bit of downtime from the city. They offer a great 22,000sqft space for rock climbing since 2009.

Located in the neighborhood of Gowanus, in Brooklyn, every year their team bring novelties to the experience they create.

This time, they’ve added Augmented Reality to their menu of classes!

How it works? There are projections on the walls that create a videogame experience for the climbers. The objective is to touch each projection – or target – as fast as possible. At every touch,  a sound is ignited to confirm the target was reached. Pretty cool, right? Fantastic mix of adventure with technology.

Being fit definitely became more entertaining at Brooklyn Boulders!

Oh! They also offer yoga, acroyoga, capoeira classes, and a variety of fitness workshops. Plus, these guys love to party making everything fun.

If you are a bit lazy and need and extra push to exercise, they have fantastic personal trainers that can help you out and keep you disciplined.

Also, their free wifi will let you document your experience to share with your friends!

Lastly, after a fantastic class at Brooklyn Boulders, you might want to walk a few blocks to a neighborhood we love called Fort Greene. For lunch or dinner, go to Colonia Verde, one of our favorite spots!

If you want our expert’s help to organize a private party or gathering, let us know. This is also the perfect spot for a company outing or a team building day. Our team is also able to assist you in organizing it all.

We loooove everything related to Daybreaker! We’ve written about them countless times before. Their style and their concept: “a morning movement that will start your day off unlike anything else”. Expect everything related to Yoga, Dance, Wellness and Mischief!

They’re blasting off to the dance floor with moves that are outta this world. Earth Day’s around the corner, so they wanted to celebrate everything that’s ever walked, trotted, hopped and — most importantly — danced across this beautiful planet.

Then they thought, what would make it even more epic? An invite to the entire solar system, you say? Let’s. do. it.

On Wednesday, April 19th, they’re opening up the dance floor to every animal, mammal and alien-inspired costume our minds can think up, at their event called “INTERGALACTIC SAFARI: ANIMALS & ALIENS“.

And, since they’re bananas for DJ Sammy Bananas, he’ll be spinning the tunes to spin us into orbit. He’s also among the DJs For Climate Action, so it just feels right, ya know?

Plus, secret locale alert: They just locked in the Gilded Lily for this one, so buckle up and get ready to blast off in an oldie but goodie.

See you on the dance floor, and let’s inter-get-at-it at Daybreaker NYC…ohhh snap!

As they explain:

“Mankind trained dogs and pigs to sniff for white truffles, assisting in the quest for this heavenly treat. The Frick Collection is like a little oasis secluded from the business of Manhattan with its marvelous art and majestic garden spaces and sculptures. I would suggest going here to catch a break and for a little time travel into the early 1900s.”

We all know that New York City hosts some of the richest and most important museums in the world!

In addition, we know that it’s always tempting to visit all of them when you’re visiting the city.

That is, if you’re interested in art, of course.

The Frick Collection is surely one of these great spots.

And, it showcases one of the most important collections of Western fine art today.

The West Village is surely one of the top 3 restaurants we most love in Manhattan.

We are always there exploring new spots or just roaming around the beautiful streets.

It’s predominately a residential neighborhood, but the small shops, coffees and restaurants give it a lively vibe!

We love what the guys at The West Village Life doing to share the neighborhood’s beauty – picture are all theirs.

Location: Bleecker Street, West Village

To wrap up,  we asked them two fun questions:

What does NYC mean to both of you?

“I believe New York City means opportunity. Opportunity to feed off of the bustling energy and to learn from some of the most talented people in the world. It is a city where trends are started and dreams made. At the same time, one must stay weary and escape now and then and to catch a piece of mind and put it all into a perspective.

I think it is important to stay grounded and humbled. And, not to let so many of the temptations this city has to offer distract and interfere with one’s core values. Whatever the end-goal – why you came to this city – don’t even forget to take one day per week to yourself. And, just let loose and have fun.”

What would you girls tell a 1st timer in NY?

“I would share with a 1st timer in New York to take it all one step at a time. Also, to be more observant in order to learn rather than dive readily into action.

Also, I would tell him/her to enjoy the variety the city has to offer. From different districts to spectacular sites, like the views from the top of the Rockefeller Center and the Metropolitan Museum of Arts.

Finally, as mentioned above, don’t forget to go away now and then to catch your breath. Plus, let it all sink in to gain a better perspective on life and to prosper personally and in your career.”

5 Healthy Food Spots In NYC To Eat Well Or Splurge

Dining 5 NYC Restaurants Gabriela Pugliesi BareBurger

We shared a few NYC restaurant tips exclusively for the Brazilian fitness blogger, Gabriela Pugliesi. Take a look at 5 healthy food spots in NYC where you can go to eat well or even, break your diet.

Today’s post today is a delicious one!

There is nothing better than talking about travel and food, right!?! So, if you’re coming to New York City, we’ve chosen 5 great restaurants that should be added to your To-Go list!

Some are very healthy, and some are great places just to go when you feel like breaking your diet for the day!

A macrobiotic organic restaurant: Souen

Many will read “macrobiotic” and be immediately intimidated by the words. Don’t be!

In a nutshell, macrobiotic cooking is simply a term for identifying a food that is rich in whole grains, very healthy, that teaches us to be aware of what we eat. Why? The food we eat will become part of us – yes, it has ancient Japanese teachings behind this cuisine too! Plus, they do not use industrialized products. Moreover, there is still an explanation of macrobiotic food related to Ying-Yang, but we’ll not get into this now.

Well,  this cuisine is made up of whole grains, vegetables, sea vegetables, beans, fish and soups.

Whoever liked the brief description above, will love the Souen. With 2 locations – Soho and East Village – the restaurant was founded in 1971 and offers some of the city’s best natural organic and vegan foods.

It’s hard to say what to try, since anyone who enjoys healthy food will probably come back a few times to order different dishes. But, some of our suggestions are: the dishes with seitan (wheat protein), the wheat noodles are delicious, the salmon and the cod are divine too. You can still add to your order a salad and other side dishes.

Ah! Be sure to order the gluten free desserts! It will certainly be a different experience.

Chic Vegan Spot: Pure Food & Wine

Photo Credit: Courtesy of Erica Graff
UNFORTUNATELY THIS RESTAURANT PERMANENTLY CLOSED!

Located at 54 Irving Place, Pure Food & Wine celebrated this year, 10 years!

Considered the 1st high-end vegan restaurant in New York, the menu is entirely based on vegetables. They do not use processed ingredients and nothing is heated above 118 degrees – thus it is possible to preserve the vitamins, minerals, and enzymes in the ingredients.

This restaurant is a great option for the lovers of healthy, vegan food, and also great for those who can’t eat gluten or lactose – neither of which are used on the menu.

In addition to the great take-out menu and an amazing presentation of the dishes, the ambience is super stylish with an outside area – certainly difficult to find in New York.

The waiters are very friendly and you certainly won’t stay for only 1 drink.

Farm to table: Market Table

Launched in 2007 and a huge success to date, Market Table is a restaurant with a farm-to-table menu.

Located on 54 Carmine Street, in the West Village, the restaurant is small, cozy, with impeccable service, giant windows and brick walls with that rustic feeling, serving healthy food. Their menu changes according to the season, so you’ll be sure to always have something new to try.

The kitchen is open, which gives the chef the pleasure of seeing the customer’s expression at their first bite! Certainly a thrill!

Dishes are simple, yet tasty and delicious. In the summer you can expect a menu with burrata, salads, seafood, vegetables and vegetables. In the winter, the food is a bit more full-bodied, like the pork rib dishes, but New York’s cold days call for these dishes too, right?

It’s a great place to go for dinner, or just go for a quick lunch. The wine list is very good too!

More than a restaurant, a lifestyle: M.O.B. – Maimonide of Brooklyn

Dining 5 NYC Restaurants Gabriela Pugliesi Maimonide of Brooklyn by Raven Crow Studio

UNFORTUNATELY THIS STORE PERMANENTLY CLOSED!

Brooklyn has got a new vegetarian restaurant called M.O.B. – Maimonide of Brooklyn. M.O.B. it’s not only a restaurant, but the story of this project is pretty cool too!

Before we speak of this place, we’ll quickly explain the name. Moses Maimonides, from which came the name “Maimonide”, was a Jewish physician, philosopher and religious man, born in Cordoba in 1135. One of his great studies was to understand the health benefits of various combinations of fruits, vegetables and seasonings.

The French restaurateur, Cyril Aouizerate, Founder of M.O.B., studied for many years the philosophies of Maimonides and the HipHop movement, until he decided finally open a store at 525 Atlantic Avenue, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn.

Cyril joined forces with Michelin-starred chefs, Alain Senderens and Jerome Banctel, and American chef Neal Harden to create the menu.

The main course, called the M.O.B., of course, is kind of tart with vegetables, fruits and spices, and is served on a tray and is shaped liked the Brookyn Bridge. Must haves on the menu are: burgers, hot dogs, mac&cheese. Plus, the desserts are to die for.

The place still offers a complimentary Comic Books, created by Cyril himself. You’ll find children puzzles, M.O.B.’s story, texts and poems and a comic book where the protagonist is a boy that discovers that his power comes from a pill he takes, made of vegetables and fruits. Very cute!

In addition, every detail of the place was carefully thought about and the result was amazing.

Cyril hired the duo of punk architects, Kristian Gavoille and Valerie Garcia.

The tables are giant and communal, with several drawers, where you find chalk for children, cutlery, etc. One of the walls has a giant United States flag and on the other wall, hunting trophies with a short description of what was “hunted”, such as: “Miss. Banana, June 2008-August 2008, died for banana bread”, or “Mr. Avocado, 2009-2010, died for guacamole” and even “Mr. Potato, May 2009 – July 2009, died for french fries”!

They also have a great bar and a gift shop. Anyway, it’s surely a unique experience in Brooklyn!

Who says eating healthy can not be fun ?!

For the Burger-holics: BareBurger

Dining 5 NYC Restaurants Gabriela Pugliesi BareBurger

Do you ever crave and just enjoying breaking your diet with a juicy hamburger or cheeseburger? Most likely, yes! But, can you eat it free of guilt?

BareBurger has countless different locations and is an organic & all-natural restaurant serving burgers, snacks and shakes.

The menu has their famous burgers, delicious salads, other types of sandwiches, some snacks and incredible shakes. The cool thing is that, unlike some places where only the meat is organic, Bare Burger works with all organic products from eggs, dairy, cheese, etc.

Plus, their organic options range from chicken, turkey and lamb to exotic meats like bison, elk and ostrich.

These exotic meats are considered leaner and have more protein than traditional meats. Just be careful if you have cholesterol issues.

To accompany any of the dishes, you can still choose a wine or a beer. Also organic!

Mile High Run Club

Curiosities Insider Interviews Jenna Rice Mil High Run Club

Mile High Run Club is probably my favorite place to break a sweat in the City. It’s essentially a treadmill class with dimmed lighting, bumpin’ music and strobe lights…with a coach cheering you on through a series of intervals and hills. I recommend Dash 28 because it finishes with strength training utilizing kettle bells and core exercises.”

Do you like “the burn”? I mean, REALLY like it?

Heyday

Curiosities Insider Interviews Jenna Rice Heyday

HeyDay is easily one of my best NYC finds. My skin went nuts when I moved to the City in the heart of winter from Florida, and this place introduced me to several natural products that I now swear by.”

The weather in NYC can be pretty crazy and will test your skin to the limit!

And, summer can be burning hot, hot, hot, while the winter can be pretty damn harsh where we feel our skin will rip with the cold.

Yeah, we know, it sounds terrible, right?

Well, we are IN NEW YORK CITYYYY, of obviously that helps make it easier to accept, LOL.

HeyDay is a great place to go if you’re looking for the perfect facial, with a good price, at the time that’ll suit you best. Carly Heitlinger also loves it!

Harriman State Park

Curiosities Insider Interviews Jenna Rice Harriman State Park Kanawauke by Mwanner

“For those who need a breather from the City, Harriman State Park is your sanctuary. It’s just a quick train ride from the city and much less crowded than some of the other hiking spots like Breakneck and Bear Mountain.”

Harriman State Park is located in Rockland and Orange Counties, Upstate NY – a little over 1h drive from Manhattan. The drive is actually a very quick and surely a gorgeous car ride up there.

They have almost 52,000 acres of mostly forested landscape and over 23miles of hiking trails.

So, what are you waiting for? Go grab (or rent here) a car, and have fun!

And, more about them:

At 47,527 acres (192.33 km2), Harriman State Park is the second largest state park in New York. Located in Rockland and Orange counties 30 miles (48 km) north of New York City, it is a haven for hikers with over 200 miles (320 km) of hiking trails. The park is also known for its 31 lakes, multiple streams, public camping area, and great vistas.”

“The Jane is easily my favorite spot to go out in the City. It basically feels like you’re at a mansion party where your favorite songs are always playing and dancing on the furniture is encouraged. Every time I have a friend visiting, I take them there and they’re never disappointed.”

Yup! It’s one of our favorite spots too!

The Jane Hotel, is located in the West Village and is certainly a destination for the cool NYC crowd.

In addition, the hotel was launched in 1908 and has rooms that replicate luxury ship and train cabins.

On the other hand, rooms are pretty small, but come on, “Who” comes to NYC to stay in the room, right!?

Location: 113 Jane Street, West Village

Rockwood Music Hall

Curiosities Insider Interviews Jenna Rice Rockwood Music Hall

“For an intimate live music experience, hit up Rockwood Music Hall. A friend introduced me to this venue and it was everything I could’ve hoped for. While there are shows that require cover, there is a smaller room to the left of the main entrance that is free of charge.”

Rockwood Music Hall is known for having hosted performances of great artists like Lady Gaga, Gary Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Mumford & Sons.

It’s one our favorite spots to have a cool night out and listen to some of the best emerging NYC bands and musicians.

Plus, musicians from other nationalities are a big hit too, like Aline Muniz and André Vasconcellos.

They have 3 stages, full bars for all tastes, drinks aren’t so pricey, like expected in Manhattan.

We love it, and we are there quite a lot!

“One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is pop into galleries in the LES and Chelsea. It’s a great alternative to hitting up a crowded museum, plus they’re completely free to enjoy! David Zwirner, Paul Kasmin, and Richard Taittinger are a few of my go-tos.”

David Zwirner is one of the top contemporary art galleries, with another location overseas, in Mayfair, London. They currently have 2 great exhibitions: “Yun Hyong-keun” up through February 18th and “Drawn Together”, up through February 18th.

David Zwirner is pleased to present an exhibition of large-scale paintings by Yun Hyong-keun (1928-2007) from the mid-1970s through the 1980s. The exhibition includes an unprecedented selection of paintings in the artist’s unique style of monochromatic abstraction, several of which are shown here for the first time. The exhibition marks the largest solo presentation of Yun’s work in North America to date.” ~ Read more here.

David Zwirner is pleased to present the gallery’s first exhibition of the collaborative work of Aline Kominsky-Crumb and R. Crumb. Both pioneers of underground and alternative comics, Kominsky-Crumb and Crumb have created a groundbreaking portrait of their shared lives and creative collaborations over the past four decades. In their ongoing “Aline & Bob” comics, the two artists have rendered their innermost thoughts, fears, and fantasies alongside the day-to-day realities of family life in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, each in their own distinctive style.” ~ Read more here.

Paul Kasmin Gallery works and supports influential Modern and Contemporary artists. They are showcasing two exhibitions: NATURALIA” up through March 4th and “WILLIAM N. COPLEY: WOMEN”, up through March 25th.

Paul Kasmin Gallery and Sotheby’s Old Masters Department will present their first collaborative exhibition, Naturalia, curated by Danny Moynihan. COPLEY: WOMEN unites a selection of paintings that highlight the late artist’s preoccupation with the opposite sex, which he employed as an endless source for inventive figurative and narrative paintings that explored eroticism, sexual politics and the pursuit of pleasure. Originally defying painterly trends of the 1950s by making personal and narrative works, the self-taught artist developed a radical fusion of European Surrealist vernacular and a rogue, humorous American sensibility. Sex, eroticism and cultural critique were mainstays in Copley’s oeuvre of paintings that embraced idiosyncratic figuration, candy-colored palettes and Matisse-like decorative patterning.” ~ Read more here.

Lastly, to wrap up this great interview and a beautiful selection of hot spots in New York, we asked Jenna:

What does NYC mean to you?

“I could honestly answer this question so many ways, but I think NYC means being able to wake up each morning with every possibility in the world at your feet.

There is always something to do, someone to meet, something to see. To me, personally, it means perseverance. The people who live here are tough. For the most part, we all struggled in some way to get here, and continue to struggle now that we’re here. But somehow, it’s all worth it.

There’s no place in the world that can offer up this kind of experience to a person.”

Thank you Jenna for being part of our Insider Interviews and sharing these 10 great NYC tips.
