#1 Berimbau do Brasil

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Berimbau Moqueca a Baiana

We love Berimbau do Brazil and we’ve written about them before. So, let’s refresh your memory and you can see a YouTube video at Berimbau we shot with Mario, the owner!

Berimbau do Brasil has been one of the small and trendy Brazilian spots in the Greenwich Village, since 2009. The restaurant is named after a very popular Brazilian instrument called “berimbau”, that has African roots and is used in the capoeira martial arts dance.

The restaurant is small, cozy, with a rustic décor, and great service (as most Brazilian spots have), plus, the food is truly fantastic. It’s loved not only by the meat eaters, but also vegetarians. Portions are very generous, so feel free to share different dishes and try a bit of it all.

What to try? The acarajé, Pão de Queijo (cheese bread) and pastel (a type of Brazilian empanada), as appetizers. For the mains, we love the picadinho carioca, bobó de camarão, the famous feijoada and the moqueca à Baiana. Dessert? The brigadeiro, of course – a chocolate truffle sweet loved by all Brazilians.

#2 Tap NYC

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Tap NYC Mushroom Cheese Tapioca

Tap NYC opened not too long ago, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and has been attracting clients from all over the city, as well as visitors. With delicious variations of the famous tapioca – a starch extracted from cassava root, originally from the Northeastern part of Brazil – it’s become a to-go spot.

As they explain: “Tapioca is gluten-free, sodium-free, fat-free, and cholesterol free, with no added preservatives!” Sounds perfect, right?

The place is great, décor is bright and spacious!

Tapioca options vary from countless savory ones, to sweet ones. Plus, they still offer, salads, Brazilian bites, açai bowls, matcha drinks, juices, smoothies, teas. And, of course, great coffee like every true Brazilian loves.

#3 Padoca Bakery

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Padoca Bakery Challah Bread

When you walk inside Padoca Bakery, a traditional Brazilian bakery, you are immediately absorbed by an incredibly irresistible smell of fresh baked goods!

Located in the Upper East Side, the place has great natural lighting, that is certainly a highlight. Their menu is fantastic for a quick breakfast, to a filling and healthy lunch. They have fresh pastries done in-house, savory ones too, cookies, brownies and açai bowls. Coffee is very good too!

In addition they also offer catering services and whole cakes for special celebrations, also freshly baked! We love the bolo de coco that is a very fluffy and moist coconut cake! Yum!

To read more about them, check out this post we’ve done!

Location: 359 East 68th Street

#4 Fogo de Chão

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Fogo de Chao New York

Ah! This is for the big carnivores out there! Fogo de Chão is one of the most famous and respected churrascarias in Brazil.

They’ve also gained international recognition “exporting” a great team of Brazilian meat experts to run the overseas locations. It is said that only their Brazilian team touches and cuts the meat since there is a special way to accentuate its flavor by doing so.

The side dishes are also to die for, from the arroz caipira (a type of rice), to the fantastic salad table with everything you can ever imagine eating.

The meat is served in a “rodizio” style, that means that you pay a fix price and eat as much as you’d like.

Waiters pass by the table with different meat options and you can choose the ones you’d like to try, or reorder more of the same. After you’re satisfied, you just signal you’re done by flipping a paper coin (one side is green meaning you want to be served / the other is red that means you’re done).

#5 Casa Restaurant

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Casa Restaurant Lula

We love places that are able to host only a very small number of guests at a time. The intimate space definitely makes it an amazing experience.

Casa Restaurant, located in the West Village, is one of these great spots. With a very traditional Brazilian menu, they offer some of the best Brazilian comfort-food selection.

As appetizers, our top picks are the: pão de queijo, pastéis (or empanadas) and  mandioca frita (yucca sticks).

A great dish to start from, if you’ve never tried Brazilian food, is the well-known Feijoada – black bean stew with prime meats served with white rice, fresh oranges, collard greens, farofa and vinaigrette sauce.

Their sandwiches, also very typical, are fantastic. Which ones to pick? Try starting with the bauru de carne made with pita bread, steak, melted cheese, lettuce and tomatoes.

Now, if you enjoy a good cocktail, the traditional caipirinha (cachaça, sugar and lime) is always our cocktail choice.

#6 Empórium Brasil

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Emporium Brasil Picanha

Located in the heart of Manhattan, Empórium Brasil’s food has been compared, by Brazilians, to their mom’s or grandma’s food. Always a good nostalgic feeling, for sure!

They are known for having a great service and very friendly staff. Definitely a plus, right?!

As always, never skip ordering the appetizers. They are very unique and delicious.

One of their top signature dishes are the short ribs, but we particularly love the famous camarão na moranga. This is a quite unique dish made from fresh acorn squash stuffed with shrimp, hearts of palm and catupiry cheese. Yes, this is one of the top Brazilian dishes that is considered a “national passion”! Very, very flavorful.

The vatapá is also a great pick. It’s a typical dish from Bahia, a state in the Northeastern part of the country. It’s basically made with purée of bread crumbs and smoked shrimp with peanuts and cashews flavored with coconut milk and palm oil.

Their menu is very diverse, with everything from grilled steak and poultry, to seafood and pastas, but you can’t really go wrong.

Location: 15 West 46th Street

#7 Oca

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Oca New York Tapioca

UNFORTUNATELY THIS RESTAURANT IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED!

We love Tapioca! Why? As Oca, located in the neighborhood of NoLita, says: it’s gluten, dairy, GMO, preservatives, fat, sugar, cholesterol and guilt FREE!

All the ingredients used at Oca organic and very fresh, purchased from local farmers. Hence, many ingredients are seasonal, but that just makes it more exciting.

Besides the tapioca crepes, they have appetizers like the famous pão de queijo, a few different salads, a few wraps, the to-die-for açai bowls and some tasty desserts. Plus, they offer not only Vegetarian option, but Vegan ones too!

To drink, their cashew nut shakes are delicious and we like the avocado one, or apple + cinnamon. Like every good Brazilian, coffee is a biggy. They have a good variation. The Hot Vegan Nocciolata is an interesting pick!

Location: Their Mott Street store is closed. Stay tuned for updates on their new secret location, still to come.

#8 Cafe Patoro

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Patoro Pao de Queijo Coffee

This café, located step from the Brooklyn Bridge, in the East part of the Financial District, also known as South Seaport, is a great upscale option to go for breakfast, lunch or an afternoon snack.

The place is well-known for the love for the famous Pão de Queijo (PDQ). They explain what it is: “PDQ is a small gluten-free cheese-bread roll. Featuring a perfect balance of crispy outside and chewy inside, PDQs are the most delectable when hot, right out of the oven.” It’s actually hard to explain, so I guess you’ll have to get one and try!

They offer a few variations of the mini PDQ sandwiches, something that is not so easy to find in New York City. This is surely one of the specialties you must try.

For the bigger bites, try the empanadas, the Brazilian grilled cheese and the corn bread.

Talking about sweets, we are fans of the brigadeiro cake – a variation made from the famous brigadeiro, a type of chocolate truffle made with condensed milk. Also try the flan and the carrot cake.

Location: 223 Front Street

#9 Brigadeiro Bakery

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Brigadeiro Bakery

It’s a snug space with minimal seating, but it’s open seven days a week. So, you’ve got plenty of time to stop by in case the lines are too long.

If you’re going to celebrate a special date, they offer great catering services, as well as beautiful packaging or gifts. And trust us: it will be the best gift ever!

They offer a free brigadeiro when you check in on Yelp too! Ha!

#10 Churrascaria Plataforma

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Churrascaria Plataforma Cocktails

Churrascaria Plataforma, located in the Theater District, is called the The New York Yankees of Brazilian Steakhouses. Raved about by legions of fans and the best known food critics.

A New York Daily News writer once wrote:

“I’ve been asked a lot over the course of the year which New York restaurants I’d be most likely to visit out of personal choice rather than professional responsibility. The name I heard myself uttering in response, more than any other, was Churrascaria Plataforma.”

As they explain: “Churrascaria (choo-rah-scah-ree-ah) is the name used to describe a restaurant that serves meat, mostly grilled. A rodízio style restaurant uses the method of serving different cuts of meat that originated in the south of Brazil in the early 1800s.”

If you love to experiment with drinks, go to their bar and let the waiter guide you through the options!

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Favela Cubana

A Brazilian-Cuban hybrid in the Greenwich Village.

As they share on their website, Favela Cubana is a place where food, music and culture converge.

Brazil’s frango Ipanema and Cuba’s arroz con pollo are amongst the delicacies featured on the menu, and fresh tropical cocktails such as their tantalizing “orange basil mojito” highlight the fully stocked bar.

It’s a great mixture of two fantastic cultures: Brazilian and Cuban! The result: Festival, for sure!

Via Brasil has been serving authentic Brazilian fare since 1978, so you have to assume they make some pretty delicious food. Located in Midtown West, it’s a quite easy commute coming from different parts of the city.

Robert Sietsema, from Eater’s, exclaimed that: “rarely has New York seen such a lush rendition” of the feijoada, the Brazilian national dish. Sietsema also noted that the Brazilian restaurant is “a notable paragon of relaxed dining, a place where you can feel like you’re on vacation.”

You’re able to find everything from the heavier dishes, like the Feijoada, to lighter ones with seafood. So, there is something for everyone, regardless of your daily-crave.

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Ipanema NYC

Also located in Midtown West, Ipanema gets raves for its bitoque and picanha steak dishes.

Drooling already? We are!

They explain that: “Brazil is a rich well of culinary diversity, blending the ingredients and techniques of the native South Americans with the cooking techniques of its Portuguese, African and Asian immigrants.”

Ipanema is in the heart of New York City’s Little Brazil Street. The restaurant’s owners are not shy about the quality of their food and claim to run the best Brazilian restaurant “in all of New York City.”

UNFORTUNATELY THIS RESTAURANT IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED!

Located in the Lower East Side, Galeria serves unique bowls of Brazilian food made from organic, local and fresh ingredients. It’s literally a mixture of food, art and drinks!

They use all ingredients within 48 hours of delivery. The serving presentation is exquisite and is quite distinct from most other Brazilian restaurants in the city. In fact, their presentation is exceptional compared to New York City restaurants in general.

They’ve made believers of the folks at Gothamist, who remarked that the eatery’s bowl concept “sounds cliché at this point, but it’s hard to get too cynical about it when everything tastes this good.”

They even have a Concept-Store inside with articles from clothing to décor, for sale!

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Rice N Beans Picanha Sandwich

Rice N Beans has been serving authentic Brazilian cuisine to New Yorkers for over 25 years. Located in Hell’s Kitchen, its namesake ingredients, rice and beans, stand out from other Latin American eateries because of the culinary talents of Executive Chef Carlos Roberto Inácio.

“I used to observe my mom cooking in (the Brazilian state of) Minas Gerais, so I learned how to cook in a different way, how to bring special seasoning to the dishes”, Chef Inácio explains.

The result is represented in a traditional Brazilian cuisine with intense flavors of garlic, onion, tomato, and coconut.

#21 The Coffee Shop

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York The Coffee Shop Salmon

UNFORTUNATELY THIS RESTAURANT IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED!

We love this place! It’s always very busy and loud, but nonetheless, it’s in our hearts!

The Coffee Shop is an iconic all-night Brazilian eatery that’s been around for decades and is open 23 hours a day. Located at Union Square, it’s fun, it’s noisy and it’s full of the pretty and the hip.

It’s famous for the sidewalk people watching tables, sort of like a classic Parisian bistro.

The service can be hit or miss, but many of the servers are aspiring models, actual models or could pass for models – which may make up for the slow service for some.

The herb fries are particularly popular, but The Coffee Shop offers plenty of other choice fare, like the pão de queijo. Likewise, the shrimp Baiano, a shrimp stew from Bahia, that comes with kale, fried plantains and plenty of white rice, is utterly delicious.

You might also want to try the granola bowl with fresh fruits and yogurt that is pretty good too and well served!

New York Through The Eyes Of The Tech Entrepreneur: Graham Mann

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann by P_Nali

New York-based Tech Entrepreneur, Graham Mann, shared with us his 7 top tips in New York! Check out where the cool tech crowd hangs out!

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann by P_Nali

Graham Mann is cofounder of Lean Systems, a logistics startup with offices in New York and Montreal, a graduate of Techstars NYC, and recipient of the 2017 Startup Canada Young Entrepreneur award. He grew up in Nova Scotia, Canada, and did his undergrad degree in engineering at McGill University in Montreal.

He still leads the non-profit organization he founded, called Sail All, which provides sailing opportunities for youth in his home province of Nova Scotia, and mentors new entrepreneurs whenever he can, particularly for Founder Institute Montreal and Startup Weekend.

In his spare time you can usually find him on or near the water, sailing, windsurfing, or attempting surfing and kiteboarding, or out taking photos.

He writes regularly on his blog, and just launched a podcast called Starting Stories, where he interviews entrepreneurs, creatives, and more to talk about how they got started, and the habits and tools that led to their success.

Take a look at his 7 top tips in New York:

For Pizza: Lucali

“I discovered Lucali through a cousin living nearby, and it’s known to locals for good reason: their pizza is delicious. They only serve pizza and calzones, and have different ingredients every day. It’s also BYOB – go to Henry Street Wine down the street for some super-friendly advice on which wines to get. Go early as there’s no reservations, and it’s cash only.”

Their first and only location in New York is Carroll Gardens, in Brooklyn. The restaurant is specialized in pizzas and calzones, but also offers appetizer salads and fresh sides. Their thin-crusted pizzas and home-made sauces are loved not only by their neighbors, but by guests that come from all over NYC. Hence, the house is always full, as Graham mentioned above.

If you’re into craft draft and bottled beers, they have a good selection, as well as a wine menu with low production Italian wines.

Who’s the mind behind this all? The pizzaiolo Mark Iacono and he also has a location in Miami.

Hours:
Monday – Thursday: 5pm – 12am
Friday – Sunday: 1pm – 12am

Location: 575 Henry Street

For Cocktails: Brooklyn Social Bar

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann Brooklyn Social Club

“After pizza and wine at Lucali, you can stop by Brooklyn Social Bar on your way back to the subway. The atmosphere is great, cocktails are delicious, and the bartenders are super friendly. Go on an off-night and get to know the bartenders.”

Located in Carroll Gardens, this spot was the former Society Riposto, a private member’s Sicilian Club. This group started back in the early 1900’s, and only in 1967 they actually rented out this spot.

They had private gatherings and parties led by Isidoro Parisi and his group of Italian friends.

After the memberships slowly dissolving throughout the years, 3 30-year old Brooklyn residents decided to purchase and renovate the place.

Many of the decorations are still the original ones with amazing, vintage pictures and ornaments, allowing it to keep its original vibe.

It’s surely a place that will take you back to the past, as in you entered another place on Earth.

Hours:
Sunday – Thursday: 5pm – 2am
Friday – Saturday: 5pm – 4am

Location: 335 Smith Street

For Those Interested In Travel: Voyager HQ

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann Voyager HQ

“For anyone interested in, working in, or looking for a job in travel, you should be hanging out at Voyager HQ. It’s where we work in New York, the staff are super friendly, and they hold lots of great events. If you’re interested in travel, you should be there.”

We have to agree! We love everything that VoyagerHQ does and we are there quite often!

The place is great and the crowd is perfect for networking. They say they are “A Club for Travel Innovators”, so if this at all calls your attention, you should pass by.

In addition, they host some pretty cool events from breakfasts with industry professionals, to pitch nights with fantastic start-ups urging to change the world!

To Escape the City (sort of): Roosevelt Island

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann Roosevelt Island Mc Gutty

“One of my college roommates grew up here, and I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Roosevelt Island. It’s right next to Manhattan, yet you’d never know it when you’re there, given how peaceful and quiet it is. Take the tram or subway there, go for a run, grab a coffee, or check out the beautiful new Cornell Tech campus.”

Yup, Roosevelt Island is a “life apart”, even though it’s nestled in the middle of the East River.

It’s a great place to go explore during the weekends!

If you have to pick a way to get there, we do recommend the tram. The journey will start with a spectacular view of Manhattan Island, Queens and the East River.

You’ll most certainly capture breathtaking Instagrammable shots!

The island has only one main street, called Main Street, ha, and a few additional side roads! But you can always walk towards the water through the path – that’s there the best views are.

If you’re the adventurous type, be sure to explore the Smallpox Hospital, also known as the Renwick Smallpox Hospital, in the Southern tip of the island.

Place to Take a Canadian: New York Islanders game

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann New York Islanders Hockey

“For Canadians, there’s no better way to spend an evening than at a hockey game, but given how popular it is in Canada, you’re lucky to get seats for a reasonable price. Take them to an Islanders game and they’ll love it, and for bonus points take them when they’re playing their favorite team.”

Canadians do love Hockey, but his is literally an activity for anyone that enjoys sports.

Moreover, if you or your friends have never been to a hockey game, we have to agreed you HAVE TO go to one.

Live hockey is definitely a thrilling experience and it’ll be a night of fun!

“I got more of a taste for scotch after spending two weeks traveling Scotland last spring, and Caledonia Bar has the best selection I’ve found in New York. The atmosphere is as good as the whisky selection, and it’s a great place to take a date.”

Caledonia Bar has two locations in Manhattan. One is in the Upper East Side and the other at the Upper West Side, of Manhattan.

They have a great drink list, a few food options that vary a bit in each location and, a fantastic list of House Rules!

Wanna know some of them?

  • Five percent off for Tinder dates, you need to prove it by showing us your initial awkward messages
  • No credit card minimum, but if you keep swiping your card all night you are wasting paper, killing trees and in the long run killing all of humanity you selfish bastard. Start a Tab!
  • Gentlemen, this is a lady friendly bar, if it’s clear that they are not interested in you then stop talking to them. Obviously this rule does not apply to me.

Ha! So fun! Anyway, enjoy your scotch night out!

They currently only have two brick-and-mortar locations, and one is in New York.”

Located in the super cool neighborhood of Nolita, in Manhattan, Everlane believes in “Exceptional quality.
Ethical factories. Radical Transparency.” Totally up our alley!

Plus, their collections and products are timeless pieces that will be part of your wardrobe for a long time. How? Well, they source the finest materials and aren’t too focused on trends.

Oh! And still, they let the customer know exactly the true cost of materials, labor, transportation, taxes, etc…for the item they are purchasing. We love it!

Brooklyn Flea

Curiosities Insider Interviews Jenna Rice Brooklyn Flea

“Brooklyn Flea is basically the cooler younger sister to Chelsea Market. There’s something for everyone, from vintage rings and designer bags to viney plants and eclectic home decor. Not to mention, they have some of the most popular food vendors from Smorgasburg minus the lines.”

We love Brooklyn! We’re Brooklyn-based and even though the Brooklyn Flea can get a bit touristy, we still love it!

In addition, you’ll find 75 vendors with everything from clothes and accessories, to furniture and jewelry, plus 25 food vendors with the most delicious dishes.

During the winter they have only one location and it happens during the weekends: Saturday + Sunday from 10am – 6pm – called Winter Flea + Smorgasburg.

Location: 1 Hanson Place, Fort Greene

Mile High Run Club

Curiosities Insider Interviews Jenna Rice Mil High Run Club

“Mile High Run Club is probably my favorite place to break a sweat in the City. It’s essentially a treadmill class with dimmed lighting, bumpin’ music and strobe lights…with a coach cheering you on through a series of intervals and hills. I recommend Dash 28 because it finishes with strength training utilizing kettle bells and core exercises.”

Do you like “the burn”? I mean, REALLY like it? Well, if your immediate answer was “YES!”, then this is the place for you!

Mile High Run Club’s running program is uniquely designed to challenge your body and get the best results you’d ever imagine. Go to one of their 2 locations to try it out.

Heyday

Curiosities Insider Interviews Jenna Rice Heyday

“Heyday is easily one of my best NYC finds. My skin went nuts when I moved to the City in the heart of winter from Florida, and this place introduced me to several natural products that I now swear by.”

The weather in NYC can be pretty crazy and will test your skin to the limit!

And, summer can be burning hot, hot, hot, while the winter can be pretty damn harsh where we feel our skin will rip with the cold.

Yeah, we know, it sounds terrible, right?

Well, we are IN NEW YORK CITY of obviously that helps make it easier to accept, LOL.

HeyDay is a great place to go if you’re looking for the perfect facial, with a good price, at the time that’ll suit you best. Carly Heitlinger also loves it!

Harriman State Park

Curiosities Insider Interviews Jenna Rice Harriman State Park Kanawauke by Mwanner

“For those who need a breather from the City, Harriman State Park is your sanctuary. It’s just a quick train ride from the city and much less crowded than some of the other hiking spots like Breakneck and Bear Mountain.”

Harriman State Park is located in Rockland and Orange Counties, Upstate NY – a little over 1h drive from Manhattan. The drive is actually a very quick and surely a gorgeous car ride up there.

They have almost 52,000 acres of mostly forested landscape and over 23miles of hiking trails.

So, what are you waiting for? Go grab (or rent here) a car, and have fun!

And, more about them:

At 47,527 acres (192.33 km2), Harriman State Park is the second largest state park in New York. Located in Rockland and Orange counties 30 miles (48 km) north of New York City, it is a haven for hikers with over 200 miles (320 km) of hiking trails. The park is also known for its 31 lakes, multiple streams, public camping area, and great vistas.”

“The Jane is easily my favorite spot to go out in the City. It basically feels like you’re at a mansion party where your favorite songs are always playing and dancing on the furniture is encouraged. Every time I have a friend visiting, I take them there and they’re never disappointed.”

Yup! It’s one of our favorite spots too!

The Jane Hotel, is located in the West Village and is certainly a destination for the cool NYC crowd.

In addition, the hotel was launched in 1908 and has rooms that replicate luxury ship and train cabins. On the other hand, rooms are pretty small, but come on, “Who” comes to NYC to stay in the room, right!?

Location: 113 Jane Street, West Village

Rockwood Music Hall

Curiosities Insider Interviews Jenna Rice Rockwood Music Hall

“For an intimate live music experience, hit up Rockwood Music Hall. A friend introduced me to this venue and it was everything I could’ve hoped for. While there are shows that require cover, there is a smaller room to the left of the main entrance that is free of charge.”

Rockwood Music Hall is known for having hosted performances of great artists like Lady Gaga, Gary Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Mumford & Sons.

It’s one our favorite spots to have a cool night out and listen to some of the best emerging NYC bands and musicians.

Plus, musicians from other nationalities are a big hit too, like Aline Muniz and André Vasconcellos.

They have 3 stages, full bars for all tastes, drinks aren’t so pricey, like expected in Manhattan. We love it, and we are there quite a lot!

Location: 196 Allen Street, Lower East Side

Bagels! We just love Bagels!

And, New York’s bagels are said to be one of the best on this planet, since our water is so fantastically clean and tasty!

Original Buddha Bodai is an incredible vegetarian spot in Chinatown. The food is delicious (you can’t even tell there’s no meat) and the atmosphere is so authentic. I highly recommend the sesame “chicken”.”

OMG! When our Founder, Fê Paronetto, went with a very good friend to Buddha Bodai, she became c-o-m-p-l-e-t-e-l-y addicted to it!

She’s vegetarian, but loves Vegan food too, and she couldn’t believe how amazingly tasty everything was!

The dumplings are to-die-for, but everything is remarkably good! But, it’s actually hard to know what exactly to order, so you might just have to go there multiple times to try it all.

“One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is pop into galleries in the LES and Chelsea. It’s a great alternative to hitting up a crowded museum, plus they’re completely free to enjoy: David Zwirner, Paul Kasmin, and Richard Taittinger are a few of my go-tos.”

David Zwirner

David Zwirner is one of the top contemporary art galleries, with another location overseas, in Mayfair, London. They currently have 2 great exhibitions: “Yun Hyong-keun” up through February 18th and “Drawn Together”, up through February 18th.

“The David Zwirner gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of large-scale paintings by Yun Hyong-keun (1928-2007) from the mid-1970s through the 1980s. The exhibition includes an unprecedented selection of paintings in the artist’s unique style of monochromatic abstraction, several of which are shown here for the first time. The exhibition marks the largest solo presentation of Yun’s work in North America to date.” ~ Read more here.

David Zwirner is pleased to present the gallery’s first exhibition of the collaborative work of Aline Kominsky-Crumb and R. Crumb. Both pioneers of underground and alternative comics, Kominsky-Crumb and Crumb have created a groundbreaking portrait of their shared lives and creative collaborations over the past four decades. In their ongoing “Aline & Bob” comics, the two artists have rendered their innermost thoughts, fears, and fantasies alongside the day-to-day realities of family life in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, each in their own distinctive style.” ~ Read more here.

Paul Kasmin Gallery

Paul Kasmin Gallery works and supports influential Modern and Contemporary artists. They are showcasing two exhibitions: NATURALIA” up through March 4th and “WILLIAM N. COPLEY: WOMEN”, up through March 25th.

Paul Kasmin Gallery and Sotheby’s Old Masters Department will present their first collaborative exhibition, Naturalia, curated by Danny Moynihan. The show will be comprised of works spanning six centuries which share a fundamental focus on the examination of natural science and its myriad presentations in art.” ~ Read more here.

COPLEY: WOMEN unites a selection of paintings that highlight the late artist’s preoccupation with the opposite sex, which he employed as an endless source for inventive figurative and narrative paintings that explored eroticism, sexual politics and the pursuit of pleasure. Originally defying painterly trends of the 1950s by making personal and narrative works, the self-taught artist developed a radical fusion of European Surrealist vernacular and a rogue, humorous American sensibility. Sex, eroticism and cultural critique were mainstays in Copley’s oeuvre of paintings that embraced idiosyncratic figuration, candy-colored palettes and Matisse-like decorative patterning.” ~ Read more here.

Richard Taittinger Gallery

Richard Taittinger Gallery works in Presenting works by contemporary artists with significant global recognition. Stop by their gallery, in the Lower East Side, to see their current exhibition: “The Wsanderers: Contemporary Painting From CLUJ”. It will be on through February 19th.

For this exhibition, the curator has endeavored to make visible that, beyond the ascribed label of the Cluj School by way of international media, there is much more to be explored when considering this group of artists. Therefore, this multigenerational exhibition tracks a shared dialogue between masters and students in order to define certain Romanian traditions. Traditions, that has within the last decade, projected the painters of Cluj-Napoca, into the limelight, astounding the international art world.” ~ Read more here.

Lastly, to wrap up this great interview and a beautiful selection of hot spots in New York, we asked Jenna:

What does NYC mean to you?

“I could honestly answer this question so many ways, but I think NYC means being able to wake up each morning with every possibility in the world at your feet.

There is always something to do, someone to meet, something to see. To me, personally, it means perseverance. The people who live here are tough. For the most part, we all struggled in some way to get here, and continue to struggle now that we’re here. But somehow, it’s all worth it.

There’s no place in the world that can offer up this kind of experience to a person.”

Thank you Jenna for being part of our Insider Interviews and sharing these 10 great NYC tips.

We are all about women empowerment and the feel of “Proud to be a Woman”, after all, Behind the Scenes NYC was founded by the Brazilian entrepreneur and dreamer, Fê Paronetto. She wanted to show people what New York City is really about, away from the touristy scene.

Our Contributor, Laura Peruchi, interviewed Sofia Oliveira, from Josefinas Portugal!

Josefinas is a luxury shoes company from Portugal that started online in Europe. They’ve just opened last month their first flagship store in New York City.

The flats and the sneakers are handmade, which certainly makes the shoes undoubtedly special and unique. Plus, Josefinas’ story and trajectory is surely inspirational.

The quote ‘Never give up’ has always defined the brand’s path.

Filipa Júlio, the Founder, named the brand after her grandmother. She made Filipa’s life a special adventure, especially when she took her to ballet class as a kid.

We talked with Sofia Oliveira, one of the Co-Founders that joined Filipa in her journey. She graduated in Communications & Press Relations, but she always loved Fashion and Josefinas was a natural step in her career.

Along with Filipa and Maria Cunha, she’s part of the team that founded Josefinas.

She explains: “Josefinas was founded in 2013 from a woman’s dream – Filipa – and other women that joined her. Our shoes were created to inspire women to achieve their dreams. It’s a woman’s dream for women”.

How is the manufacturing process of Josefinas’ shoes?

We are obsessed with savoir-faire – a French expression that means “expertise”. That’s why each Josefinas’ pair of shoes is so special. They are all individually handmade by expert craftsmen based in Portugal.

Can you explain a little bit about Josefinas’ values and philosophy?

Josefinas has three main values.

First, is the savoir-faire. We work with the best Portuguese craftsmen to create Josefinas’ magic. The hands of these artists have years of history in the art of making shoes. They have passion and pride in creating. Naturally, they create pieces of art.

Our second value is women empowerment. We believe in women power. Our mission is inspiring women to believe in their dreams until they come true. Where can your Josefinas can take you? Wherever you want them to!

Last but not least, we have the Customer’s “WOW”. We believe that our Customers are the best in the world, that’s why we believe in always exceeding their expectations. We have a person focused on this: our Chief Officer of Customer Delight.

What about the Josefinas’ styles? What’s your favorite?

Honestly, it’s impossible to have just one favorite. All styles are beautiful! Currently, I am obsessed with Josefinas’ Louise Green Tree, Cleopatra Classic Black and the Red Lisbon.

Josefinas believes in women empowerment and that it’s not necessary to wear high heels to be amazing, right?

It’s important – and we believe – that women should feel good with themselves. They have to believe, feel and use their power. There is nothing stronger than women empowerment! We are a live example of that.

Why did you chose New York City to open the first Josefinas flagship?

Why NOT New York City? The United States is an important market for Josefinas and it’s the perfect place to affirm us as luxury brand.

For you, in which way is Josefinas’ shoes and New York women related?

It’s excellent, not just for New York women, but also for women around the world. In addition to appreciating the quality and design of Josefinas’ shoes, they also connect with the brand’s values and purpose. This makes us extremely proud.

To finish, what are your favorites spots in New York?

I’m going to suggest three places to eat that I simply love: The Butcher’s Daughter – I can’t highlight anything specific, because I adore everything about them; Rubirosa has the most divine pizza and By Chloe because of it’s classic vegan burger.

After a full day roaming around Soho and NoLita, Cafe Gitane can be a great option to have lunch or just grab a drink and chill.

The decor is pretty simple, similar to all the cutlery/dishes, and certainly that what makes all the difference and gives its charm. Then again, less is more, right?!

On the menu, plates like grilled eggplant with tapenade and goat cheese, organic chicken satay with peanut sauce and moroccan couscous with red pepper. Their avocado toast is also delicious to start off your meal!

This is not the place to spare the calories, so do ask for their desserts. They are all pretty good, but we personally enjoy the caramelized banana creme tarte.

They are a great spot for a relaxed lunch or dinner during the week or a low-key weekend brunch. If you enjoy a good drinking place, they’d be perfect too, since their beer, wine, liquor and cocktail menus have countless great options!

Obviously the tables on the outside are the most wanted ones!

If you want to reserve the spot for a private gathering, just call them and they will be happy to accommodate you and your friends!

Don’t want the hassle or you’re too busy? Contact us to find out more about our Concierge Services and how we can help you out!

It’s definitely a place worth going if you’re around! Calling in for a reservation might be a smart move, specially if you want to sit at their outdoor area. It gets pretty ‘competitive’!

“We believe in bringing people together and showcasing talent.”

In Support Of is a multi-label specialty boutique featuring independent designers while supporting various charitable causes. It was founded in 2014 by Tanya Sheikh & Ivan Gilkes.

The first brick and mortar location opened in the Meatpacking District, and now relocated to the super cool NoLita neighborhood.

They both believe in bringing inspiring talent to the forefront while supporting causes considered important for them.

Some of the numerous designers featured at the store are: Miista, Sarah Magid, Hein Le, Avelon, Finsk, Karolyn Pho, Moni & J, Steven Tai and many other great names.

Plus, you can shop for accessories, clothing’s, swimwear, jewelry, beauty products, and a variety of other products.

As the owners once said:

“We love pieces that have a voice and tell a story, designs with an innate sense of beauty in a wide palette of colors and prints.”

Also, everything is wearable but with a touch of innovation, making everything as unique as possible.

So, this is definitely a store to pass by if you’re in New York.

UNFORTUNATELY THIS RESTAURANT IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED!

If you’re not so into names…probably Balthazar, Morandi, Pastis and Minetta Tavern will help! This list has some of the top restaurants in New York, so do keep them in mind – or on you’re to-go list!

Cherche Midi is another restaurant owned by the renowned restauranteur Keith McNally and again, he makes a perfect strike! The cuisine: obviously, French.

The staff is amazing, the decor is very welcoming, the courtesy with welcome cocktails is certainly unique, the food is delicious and beautifully presented. Don’t you just love an artistically designed dish? We do!

The team – with Chefs Daniel Parilla and Shane McBride – does make all the difference….and the guests? Well…you gotta go there to understand it!!!

A few plates you can try are the Prime Rib, the Lobster Ravioli, the roasted Chicken Breast, the Cherche Midi Burger, the Seared Salmon and the Angel Hair Pasta.

Oh! For dessert? Ahhh, the Chocolate Soufflé is our favorite, but you’ll be good with any other option too!

Plus, they offer delivery service for lunch and dinner, and still, if you’re looking for a restaurant to host your private event, they can accommodate all your guests.

Do you need help in organizing a fabulous private party? See how our Concierge Services can make this a memorable day!

Or are you a business needing help to organize a dinner for clients, or for your team? Contact us to see how we can assist.

At La Esquina’s flagship spot, on the Soho-Nolita border, you can expect an amazing selection of Mexican food – from Mexican style grilled corn to ceviche and the traditional tacos.

Established in the year of 2006, its popularity is certainly worth the wait.

The menu is fantastic, so if you’re in doubt about what to try, fear not! You can order some dishes to share, so this way you’ll have a great time tasting a bit of it all.

If you want to take home a bit of their “Mexican taste”, they sell 4 salsas/dips that will spice up your day! You might find them “sold out”, but that’s probably a good sign, right? They are:

  • Roja: A charred salsa famous at the restaurant for its fresh, yet smoky taste featuring fire roasted tomatoes, garlic and onions;
  • Roja Hot: A spicy (but not too hot) version of their original salsa roja;
  • Verde: This refreshing salsa is zesty and features tomatillos, fire roasted onions, serrano peppers and cilantro;
  • Black Bean Dip: This smoky dip is one of Food & Wine Magazine’s favorite snacks! Smoky, yet sweet, this dip features black beans, fire roasted tomatoes, serrano peppers and cilantro.

Now, the secret!

Through a disguised door that reads “Employees Only” you’ll find an entrance to their famous basement restaurant. Some people get mistake by their café which is just around the corner, but that’s not it! The only way of going in, is with a reservation so be sure to do that.

Plus, they offer catering service and also have a few amazing products for sale at Goldbelly, like different salsas and black bean!

They opened a second place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, named “Café de la Esquina”. But, they didn’t stop there. They have a total of 4 locations for everyone’s delight!

We do recommend calling for reservation, so you can have a seamless experience, since it does get quite crowded.

What the NEW YORK TIMES says: “Speakeasy-channeling pantomine of illicit, exclusive pleasure.

As we mentioned, definitely one of NYC’s secrets worth sharing!

We know that SoHo and Nolita are neighborhoods with never ending spots to explore, we we will help you out a bit.

Have fun!

Goorin Bros hat shop has a fantastic story!

It all started way back in 1895, with Cassel Goorin. He created custom-made hats off his horse cart in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“A hat allows you to make a statement without saying a word” – Ben Goorin

Furthermore, several years later, in 1921, Cassel taught his two sons, Alfred and Ted, the art and business of his trade. When Alfred and Ted took over Cassel’s business, it became the Goorin Brothers.

Alfred and Ted knew about their father’s passion for outdoor activities and decided, in 1948, to create the Grenadier Catalog. In other words, it was a sporting line designed to accommodate the hunter, fisherman and camper alike.

In 1949, Alfred moved to San Francisco, expanding their business and their awareness. They also added hat-related accessories to their successful line of headwear. Unique items like gloves and mittens, socks, and other sportswear were created.

The successful story passed on through generations of the Goorin family. In 1991, Ben Goorin of the 4th generation, observed the cultural movement of the 90’s. He knew that the Goorin archives contained the hats that would make a great comeback.

Eventually, in 2012 Goorin Bros focused on bringing a personal level of genuine interaction back – hat shops and customers.

They wanted to make hat wearing relevant again.

Now, imagine a world with beautifully crafted hats once again reigning the street scene. How cool would that be!? Well, on our end, we’re huge supporters!

Plus, sometimes you can be lucky enough to see a rare solo set in their Williamsburg store!

Note! They to have hats for women too, so girls, go there have fun! If you have kinds, they have the trendiest options too.

In addition, if you just love head adornments and you’re, let’s stay, the “bold” type-a-gal, you might want to check out Dora Marra. She has one of the best stores in New York.

Do you need help shopping in New York and want a professional Personal Shopper with you? Contact our team of experts so we can tell you more about this service! And yet, for Corporate requests or event to customize a unique benchmark experience, we can assist you and your team.
