So many people come to NY and tell me that they’d love to have a picnic at the park. They see so many locals having fun and they want the same experience, but don’t know where to start from or don’t have time to plan it all.

In addition, going to Central Park can be an overwhelming experience due to all the tourists roaming around. But, going to Central Park, with the right information of the best hidden spots for a delicious, unique picnic, can be priceless!

Plus, it’s also a great idea for a special celebration or a romantic afternoon at the park!

Well, we love this experience! Many of our private clients and corporate clients do too, and we’ve written about it before!

You will definitely have a great time! There are countless different options to choose from!

Horseback Riding

BTSNYC Experiences On Going Outdoor Activities Horseback Riding Central Park

Yes! You can do horseback riding at Central Park too! Different from the carriages that over work the horses, our partner takes really good care of them.

Each horse works a maximum of 6hours a day and are transported to the park properly.

The tours are 1 hour long and pass by the most beautiful spots in the park from Strawberry Fields, where the John Lennon memorial is, to the Reservoir and other special spots.

If you have kids, it’s also a great activity since they have 10min pony rides. Little ones should be 2 years old at least and the guide is beside them all the time.

I rode Oscar, a huge, beautiful, white horse and had a great time exploring Central Park through another angle.

I had heard before that people could rent a jet ski, hop on and enjoy the Hudson River! But, I had never really tried it.

Well, I finally decided to be brave and go try it out, after all, how cool is it to actually ride a jet ski on this famous river?!

We got the ferry at a downtown spot, ride beside the 9/11 Memorial and head to a Marina on the Jersey side. It’s only 15min away from Manhattan. Super quick and seamless.

Each way costs $8/person and ferries leave quite frequently, so don’t worry.

There are 2 types of rides, a shorter one that covers mostly Midtown Manhattan and downtown, and the 2.5h ride that you actually drive around the entire Manhattan island. So cool!

I had a great time! The view is truly spectacular, it’s a priceless experience and the Hudson water is quite, by the way!

How To Enjoy NYC With Kids, Outdoors!

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists How To Enjoy NYC With Kids Outdoors Hudson River

Yes, New York is a great city for kids, so don’t worry! See below how to enjoy NYC with kids, outdoors seamlessly and have tons of fun and stories to tell!

Don’t believe people that say differently. The city is full of amazing attractions and activities for kids of all ages and we will show you what we mean!

Before we became parents, we spent countless weekends in New York City, staying out late, enjoying nice dinners, and partying at the best bars and nightclubs.

After our son was born, we realized that traveling to the Big Apple needed to change. We replaced our original itinerary with activities that were fun for the whole family.

Despite the skyscrapers, congested traffic and throngs of tourists, New York City has secluded pockets that give the kids room to play. It is possible to enjoy the great outdoors in Manhattan.

Park It

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists How To Enjoy NYC With Kids Outdoors Central Park
Central Park [Photo Credit: Courtesy of The 2 Idiots Travel Blog]
At 840 acres, Central Park is the hub for outdoor-loving families. You can rent bicycles and explore the paved trails, enjoy rides on the carousel, and try horseback riding through the park’s highlights.

This is not a just a stop for tourists – the entire park is also teaming with New Yorkers who appreciate the best of New York’s great outdoors!

We love Sheep Meadow, near the famed Tavern on the Green restaurant. It’s great for kids because of its wide open space (15 acres), kite flying, room to play catch, and loads of families.

Shop a local market and bring a picnic, or let our experts cater the perfect picnic for you, and make a full day of sitting under the trees; the museums and art tours will still be there tomorrow. Even in the winter, you can use the park for ice skating, cross country skiing and sledding.

You can also visit waterfront parks along the Hudson and the East River, providing great views, cool breezes and lots of fresh air. We love Hudson River Park for its play areas with water features on hot, summer days.

Our son can spend hours playing in the splash park, and you’ll find mini golf and sports fields and courts for older kids to get their play on.

See the City from the Water

Surrounded by water – Manhattan is an island, after all – spend time on the rivers. Kayak rentals are available for the families with older kids, and you can set sail on leisure ships for an hour or two of sightseeing.

There are also some pretty cool jet ski rides up and down the Hudson, as well as around the entire island!

The Staten Island Ferry is a great way to see New York’s skyline from the Hudson – and it’s FREE!

Or, if you want to splurge, you can charter a private cruise on a small sailboat.

You can also catch the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. She stands on an island that is a national park. No need to climb to the top, just enjoy the views while your toddler plays. (This is also another great picnic spot!).

If you’ve never been to Ellis Island, it’s also a great spot, with some pretty exclusive tours.

If you’re willing to travel further, cross into New Jersey to Liberty State Park and you’ll find even more space to enjoy. Playgrounds, a boardwalk with viewfinders, and picnic tables all overlook Manhattan.

Enjoy Outdoor Attractions

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists How To Enjoy NYC With Kids Outdoors Highline

Many of New York’s best attractions will get you outdoors, such as the Central Park Zoo and the New York Botanical Garden. The Gardens offer special activities and event for young kids and is a special treat – NY Botanical Garden and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.

Or, grab your stroller and take a walk along the High Line, which stretches over a mile on an old rail line. You can take a trip to Roosevelt Island with a ride on the Roosevelt Tram providing a fun ride and cool views before you take in the skyline from the East River-based island.

Even grabbing a bite under the sun is easy to do in New York. Take advantage of the many restaurants that have rooftop dining or secret patios like at Roberta’s. You’ll be surprised how much of the city can be enjoyed in the open air. Try Birreria, the rooftop of Eataly’s grocery and market or ‘Wichcraft for sandwiches, both a little touristy and in the Flatiron District, buy worth the visit.

And, because New York’s diverse neighborhoods offer safe playgrounds for the kids who live close by, seek out AirBnBs or boutique hotels near a small park. It makes for a good start to your day to grab coffee and muffins for breakfast in a nearby park, as well as a relaxing end to a long day of sightseeing.

When you leave New York and download all of your photos, we bet you’ll be surprised by how many of them were taken outdoors and away from crowds. You might not even think they were taken in the city!

Oh! Wait! You’re they type that doesn’t take pictures, but always regret it after?

You might want a professional photographer that will seamlessly be with you during the day, capturing the most amazing, spontaneous moments! You’ll not even notice!

Have fun and be sure to tell your other friends how to enjoy NYC with kids! We are sure you’ll be back for more!

Exploring The Coolest Spots In Industry City, Sunset Park

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists Industry City Frying Pan BK Outdoor Area

Some of New York’s coolest spots are located in Industry City. This area of Brooklyn has been completely transformed from old warehouses, into a fantastic center with thriving local Brooklyn-based businesses!

Back in the 1890’s Sunset Park, in Brooklyn, was full of warehouses and distribution centers.

Industry City was called Bush Terminal and in no time, had over 25,000 daily workers, transforming it into one of the world’s major international seaports.

By the 1960’s businesses started to close down and the area was practically abandoned for over 40 years.

Finally, in 2013, a new group started to renovate and redevelop the area. Today, they’ve created over 2,000 jobs and have leased over 2million square feet to new local businesses that are now thriving!

We came here today to show you a few of the coolest spots to visit, while you in the neighborhood!

My Top Food Spots in Greenpoint Brooklyn

Dining Top Food Spots in Greenpoint Restaurants Glasserie Thumbnail

I’ve chosen a few of my top food spots in Greenpoint Brooklyn to shoot a great video and share with you! Come see which are the spots that I love going to with my friends. I’m sure you’ll love them too!

Greenpoint has some pretty amazing places to go for lunch, brunch and dinner! As we’ve previously mentioned, the neighborhood is growing rapidly and new businesses are opening all the time.

One of the great things of Greenpoint is that, since the neighborhood is relatively small, everything is walking distance from each other and along the way you’ll probably find other amazing stores, cafés and happy hour places to go back to.

So, this time, I decided to list a few of my top food spots in Greenpoint that I truly love going to:

Glasserie

Dining Top Food Spots in Greenpoint Restaurants Glasserie

Glasserie is super unique restaurant and quite an experience too!

Why? Well, to start, it’s inside a former glass factory dated back to the 1860’s, which I personally think is pretty awesome. We do love exploring spots with interesting stories behind it.

It serves Mediterranean food with a few dishes inspired in Egyptian street food. They have a fantastic full bar and yes, the décor is simple but cozy.

Oh! It’s also a great spot to celebrate an important day with your loved ones, or impress on a date!

The Brooklyn Barge

The Brooklyn Barge is one of my hidden gems and sometime not even locals know about it.

I’ve written about this place before and mentioned that it has one of the best views of Manhattan, since it’s right by the river.

Getting there is an adventure on its own, since you’ll probably think you’re lost. You’ll pass by old warehouses and abandoned cars, but just continue walking. You’re going on the right path.

They serve food and drinks and it does get quite busy, so be sure to arrive early.

Milk & Roses

Milk & Roses is also one of my favorite spots and it will make you feel like you’re in Italy!

I love to take people that have never been to Greenpoint, to start their experience here.

The result: they always love it and want to come back for more!

The place is beautiful, the décor is quite special with a beautiful piano in the center of the main dining room, big red leather couches and a priceless garden in the back – where I always prefer sitting during the warmer months.

If you decide to go there on a weekend, you might take a while to sit down. So, try making a reservation, or just relax at the bar with a drink, until your table is ready!

Le Fanfare

Still in the spirit of Italy, Le Fanfare is another great option! The owner, Luca, is also the owner of Epistrophy, located in Soho!

Here, you can expect live music on weekends Jazz nights, large communal tables and a beautiful bar in the front.

Oh, they also have a small private patio in the back open during the hot months. As about the special nights where Luca plays Jazz for everyone there!

Have fun!

If you enjoyed this short list of my top food spots in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, you’re now probably craving a coffee and pastry, right?

And, you should also see which are the coolest bars in the area, if you decide to take the day and just explore this neighborhood! There are great options there if you’re a night owl in search of fantastic signature cocktails!

Have fun exploring!

Best Nude Beaches In New York And Around

Day Trips and Travels Nude Beaches in New York Gunnison NJ Dock Area

I had never been to nude beaches in New York before, or anywhere else actually, but I have to say that I was always curious to see what it would be like. I mean, I think many people also have this curiosity but, like me, never really had the guts to go.

Day Trips and Travels Nude Beaches in New York Gunnison NJ

Thankfully I have a great group of friends that planned a special Sunday for us this past weekend! The weather was perfect, the sky was as blue as it could get and I decided to give it a go!

Result: I loved it and can’t wait to explore another nude beach!

So, I decided to write this post to share my experience, tell you about prepping for the day, share some do’s and don’ts, and list you a few places to go in New York and around!

We actually went to a beach called Gunnison Beach, in Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Gunnison is known for being the only legal nude beach in the State, plus it’s a LGBTQ+ friendly spot too. It’s known as one of the oldest and best nude beaches on the East Coast to go to.

The gay-friendly section of the beach is mostly near the parking lot, but you can see families and straight people enjoying the day too. One of the cool things at the beach is that even though it is encouraged to just go full on naked, it’s optional.

So, if it’s your first time explore nude beaches in New York, like it was mine, you can go at your own pace and comfort. I actually just decided to get in the mood, after 5minutes I was there…

It’s like a cold lake. Better to just jump straight in, instead of putting first your feet to get used to the water. You might never get in…Hahaha!

Every single person at the beach is extremely respectful, no one is making fun, or talking or even stopping to look at other people. They are just enjoying the day, chatting with friends, sunbathing and refreshing in the ocean.

I didn’t see any sign that said “No Cameras”, but I do think it’s implicit that no one should be taking pictures or recording anything, right? My recommendations is to just forget about your phone and enjoy your time there.

The sensation? It’s actually extremely liberating! You just feel free and in peace with yourself and your body. Everyone there is beautiful the way they are and no one is there to judge.

How to get there?

Day Trips and Travels Nude Beaches in New York Gunnison NJ Pier 11I left from Manhattan, so the best way was to head to Pier 11, near Wall Street and get the Seastreak Ferry to Sandy Hook, New Jersey. My recommendation would be to purchase the round-trip ticket, since I didn’t really see where you could buy tickets at Sandy Hook back to Manhattan.

Ticket prices are a bit steep and a round ticket costs $46 per person, but I do recommend the experience. Steeper prices also mean a more controlled crowd.

We left on the 11am ferry and in 30 minutes we were at Sandy Hook. Arriving there you’ll see, right by the docking area, some friendly Rangers guiding you to the yellow school buses that will take you to the beaches. We dropped off at the 1st stop, Gunnison Beach, but there is another stop called North Beach.

Arriving at Gunnison, you’ll walk through a nice wooden path that will lead you to the beach. It’s maybe a 10min walk from there, to where you’ll probably settle in.

Oh! Do use the bathroom, before getting to the beach, since it not that close, sand is hot and fluffy, so it’s not that fast to walk through when you’re super tight.

If you go by car from Manhattan, you might take up to 2h, so the ferry is definitely easier. But, if you decide to go by car, if I’m not mistaken, parking it $10 a car/day.

How to Prep?

Day Trips and Travels Nude Beaches in New York Gunnison NJ Dock AreaGunnison doesn’t really have good food options. There is only a small food truck that sells some snacks and refreshments, but to spend a full day, it’s not really a great place to depend on.

We had been to the market the day before and we bought things to prepare a couple of sandwiches for lunch and we also bought fruits, snacks like blue corn tortilla chips, hummus, nuts, a few sweets and some water bottles. It was all inside these thermal carrying bags.

Guys! Do hydrate during the day! Even though there is an amazing constant breeze you might not notice, but you are dehydrating there.

We took 2 big portable sun umbrellas for our group of 7 people and it was just perfect.

Also, no need to say, but yes, take sunscreen and keep reapplying through out the day, plus a hat and some cool shades. You WILL burn…

And lastly, we took towels to lay on, just to be more comfortable.

A few Rules & Etiquette Tips for the 1st Timers:

Day Trips and Travels Nude Beaches in New York Gunnison NJ Path To Beach

So, these are just a few of my own thoughts, ok? Feel free to comment below with more that I might have forgotten!

1. Respect each and every single person around you. They are there to have fun too!

2. Don’t EVER stare. I mean, come on, we’re there to have fun and not to check people out, make fun and point at strangers.

3. A nude beach is NOT a place to pick up dates or hit on people. It’s a beach like every other beach, not an eye candy spot. Stay with your group, unless you’re invited otherwise to join someone else.

4. Don’t EVER film or take pictures. If you do decide to take a quick selfie, be 1000000% sure no one is appearing in the back of your picture. But, as I mentioned, better to just enjoy your time there and forget your phone for once.

5. Be sure to see WHERE you are allowed to strip down! Not every public space at the beach is a spot to go naked. Ex: People are dressed at the restroom area at Gunnison, so put your clothes on to go there. And also, some public spaces might be allowed to go naked, but have a towel with you, so you don’t sit bare-bum, ok? This is for sanitation purposes.

…and still…

6.  If you’re with your loved one, be discrete, please! No one is making out like crazy on the sand, so just act as if you’re at any other public space. Also, don’t sit on laps or touch each other’s private areas, ok?

7. This is for the MEN! Guys, I believe it must hard to control your friend down there, when you see something attractive. It’s ok if that happens. There is no shame, BUT be sure to be discrete and, as we said, respect everyone there. Keep an extra towel close by, just in case.

8. Should I go with friends or alone? Well, friends are always good since you know them, but you might think it’s weird to see a close friend totally naked… If you decide to go alone, you have to be careful too. Have something to give your attention too – a book, good music, a coloring book, sunbathing, etc. Going alone and just “staring”, might be a bit weird and not welcomed.

9. If your group has music playing, be sure it’s not disturbing your neighbors. Also, DON’T put on a show with your crazy “Dancing Days” moves. Keep that for when you get back into the city, with your clothes on!

10. EMBRACE this moment of freedom and total liberation from anything and anyone. Just have fun in the sun!

A few other nude beaches to explore:

  • Gunnison in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, is where I went.
  • Fire Island, in Long Island, NY, has a few spots to explore like Lighthouse Beach and Cherry Grove
  • The Rockaways is also known of having a few spots and specific areas in Fort Tilden and Jacob Riis Park

Upstate New York has a few options too, if you’re more a mountain-person:

  • Juniper Woods Campground, in the Catskill, says it’s “a clothing optional nudist recreational park and campground”
  • Split Rock Hole inside the Mohonk Preserve, located in New Paltz, is a great natural pond to cool off during summer
  • Empire Haven in Moravia, NY “was founded in 1959 and is a family-oriented nudist park located in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region”
  • Full Tan Sun Club, in Sprakers, NY is a “family nudist campground” and opened over 50 years ago
  • Stony Kill Falls, also in New Paltz, has clean spring water in their Nudist Pool

As I mentioned a few times, be sure to see all the rules of each spot you go explore, ok?

Let me know if there are other places and nude beaches in New York that I should add to this list on the comments below!!! I’d love to know them!!!

For other beaches, not nude this time, you might want to explore a place I love called Sag Harbor! Great escape from our concrete jungle too!

“This is a big statement, but I stand by it: Bistro Petit is the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. It’s a charming little spot – only fitting about a dozen or so people into the entire space – and you can’t help but to fall in love. The cuisine is French/Korean fusion, and BYOB. Erie Basin

Curiosities Insider Interviews Kelley Louise Erie Basin Jewelry Antiques

“An exceptionally well-curated collection of jewelry (both vintage and new pieces that were crafted using antique stones), pretty much everything you see at Erie Basin is one of a kind. Even if you’re not ready to invest in your next piece of fine jewelry, they’re worth the follow on Instagram for some daydreaming.”

Launched in 2006, the store is located in the far end of Brooklyn in a neighborhood we adore called Red Hook! They are “specialized in antique and vintage jewelry, but also have a selection of furniture, art, and objects dating from the 18th to mid 20th century.”

The brand is, up to date, basically a one-man show, and was founded by Russell Whitmore. An avid collector and antique lover, Whitmore launched in 2014 a fantastic collection around antique gemstones he has collected and many are exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces.

“La Mercerie is my favorite new hotspot by Chef Marie-Aude Rose, the wife of renown chef and my dear friend, Daniel Rose from Spring & Le Coucou. I love the buckwheat crepe and the amazing dessert selections there.”

“Agern is a Michelin starred delight hidden in the business Grand Central Terminal. It is quite an experience just to discover this beautiful place for the first time visitor. It is by far my favorite Nordic cuisine in town and I loved their focus on pairing the season driven menu with local American wine.”

We love it too! Our experience there has been certainly priceless. Service is fantastic, food is to-die-for and ambiance is very comforting and dim lighting.

The price is a bit high, but worth every dollar, especially if you’re looking for a special night out with your loved one or with friends & family.

Favorite Bars: The UES and The Office

Curiosities Insider Interviews Andrew Chen My Inspire Project The UES

“The UES is a new speakeasy bar behind the ice cream shop storage, you would need the right dress code and people in order to enter and enjoy the swanky cocktails. The concept is unique for the uptight neighborhood. Since we live in the area, this is our new go-to spot for a chic but casual night.”

Yes, we are lovers of all speakeasies around the city and this is a place you should certainly visit! Oh yes, and the dress code! They ask to:

“Kindly refrain from wearing t-shirts, collarless shirts, torn or baggy jeans, flip flops, sandals, tennis shoes or athletic wear of any kind.”

Hours: Storage open Monday – Saturday: 5pm

“The Office is probably the most fabulous and luxurious speakeasy bar in NYC, and possibly around the world. Inside the Mandarin Oriental at Time Warner Center, this reservation only bar is only accessible through a hidden passageway. It is my favorite place to take my special guests, celebs and visitors for meetings and drinks. Their truffle cocktail and truffle pairing menu is surely a different level.”

New York is certainly the home of some of the most luxurious spots on Earth. If you’re into art, they feature some amazing collectors’ art and artifacts.

In addition, if you enjoy learning and tasting spirits, they have an “extinction” collection of some of the rarest spirits in the world! So, it’ would be obvious to say that their signature cocktail list is fantastic, right!?

Favorite Club: Jia Lounge

Curiosities Insider Interviews Andrew Chen My Inspire Project Jia Lounge

“I would go to LES, not for the vibrant bar scene, but the beautiful 1930’s Shanghai-themed lounge club, Jia Lounge. Hidden in the back of Rivington Hotel, Jia Lounge is a new nightlife experience in New York City with curate cocktail, music and selective crowd. It has the best deep house night in town and caters to the many tastemakers and international jetsetters in the city.”

This place is really something! Besides what Andrew mentioned about cocktails, music and a great crowd…the décor is certainly a highlight.

Everything was meticulously cared for and details are everywhere to be noticed! Plus, if you love being part of the super late-night New York Scene, this is the place for you! It’s open until 4am!

In the video, we talked a bit about Café Medi, also inside the Rivington Hotel – great spot for brunch!

Favorite Park: Fort Tyron Park

Curiosities Insider Interviews Andrew Chen My Inspire Project Fort Tyron Park

“Fort Tyron Park is indeed quite a ride from the heart of Manhattan, but it would never disappoint you. Once you arrive at the Remnants of Billings Estate and the massively arched structure known as the Billings Arcade, you feel like you are in Europe already. This park is surely one of the city’s most beautiful outdoor pieces of art.”

We love it too! Previously owned by no one less than John D. Rockefeller, Jr., in the year of 1931, he gifted the property to the City of New York. What a gift, right?

Construction started and 4 years later, in 1935, Rockefeller and Robert Moses – the “master builder” of mid-20th century, officialized the park as a public space for everyone to be able to visit! Lucky us!

Location: Riverside Drive to Broadway, W 192 Street to Dyckman Street
