Car with headlights on passing through frozen road - navigate freezing conditions safely - Behind the Scenes NYC

Many of us love winter because it brings back plentiful memories. It also provides a wonderfully picturesque blanket of snow for us to enjoy most years. But, do you know how to navigate freezing conditions safely?

The ambiance that comes with the door allows us to relax for the winter months a lot of the time. But, for those who have to drive a lot during these months, things can become a little tricky.

Whether you are renting a car or you’ve been behind the wheel for a long time, things can become very tedious.

There are so many different ways winter and freezing conditions can impact the car you drive, and navigating through icy roads can be very awkward. We must show plenty of caution and preparedness while understanding the kinds of hazards that can arise.

The good thing is that there are many things that people can do in order to keep roads safe and to stop problems from happening during freezing conditions.

While things might be a little difficult at the start, it’s just a case of experiencing certain situations and learning.

Here are some essential tips to help you navigate freezing conditions safely:

Prepare The Vehicle Adequately

Freezing days can be very tedious for your car. Before you even think about getting on the road, you have to make sure that it is winter ready.

Do a proper check on the tires regarding tread depth and think about whether you should use studied tires for more grip. Don’t neglect your windshield washer fluid, too.

Pack an emergency kit with everything you need. We are talking about the likes of an ice scraper, jumper cables, and even a snow shovel if you can fit it.

Adjust Your Driving Style Accordingly

The chances are that you have a particular style of driving that suits you perfectly. When you see conditions come around, you have to make sure that you change your habits somewhat.

It might even be a case of heading to the likes of Edmunds and getting a new car in some situations. You learn about braking distance and stopping time when you are with your instructor, and now is the time to put it into action.

You must avoid sudden acceleration and maintain a sensible speed. Using lower gears helps to improve traction on slippery surfaces, so make sure you utilize this.

Read The Road As Best As You Can

You should be doing this in any condition, but it’s especially necessary during freezing times.

Don’t just look at what’s immediately in front of you. Look out for patches of black ice and glossy floors. Be wary when going near shaded areas and bridges as they tend to freeze first.

Tyre tracks or ruts left by others tend to point towards icy areas.

Understand Emergency Situations And Be Prepared

Emergencies can happen at literally any time, but they’re even more prevalent during freezing conditions.

If you deal with skidding in your car, you must remain calm and steer in the direction you want to go calmly. And, if you panic and look to overcorrect the issue, you could lose control altogether.

If ever you are stranded and in an emergency situation, stay with your vehicle and make sure it’s more visible.

Keep your exhaust pipe clear of snow and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

6 Perfect Road Trips from NYC

6 Perfect Road Trips from NYC Behind the Scenes NYC

Today, we bring you 6 Perfect Road Trips from NYC that will not only be amazing, but will create unforgettable memories and stories!

6 Perfect Road Trips from NYC Behind the Scenes NYC

The COVID-19 pandemic makes it increasingly difficult to bear with all the noise and stress in crowded cities. So, we will share with you 6 amazing road trips from NYC to start planning!

However, escaping into nature and great scenery can indeed come in handy in relieving stress and regaining energy.

To that end, here are 6 perfect road trips from NYC that will leave you wondering why you hadn’t taken them before!

Discover the beauties of the Hudson valley

For ages, artists, poets, and novelists have found their source of inspiration in the Hudson Valley, which is a National Heritage Area.

It is an area that is as unique, wild, rich, and inviting as any in the world.

If you are planning to take a road trip to the Hudson Valley, the MINI dealer in Mt Laurel advises that the best time to do so is in the summer or autumn.

These seasons are the best since in them you will be provided with most of the attractions and possibilities.

You can make your stops along the way to some idyllic villages and towns such as Nyack, a nice town with a rustic spirit and old traditional houses, small souvenir shops, but also you will be able to see and visit the cultural aspect of it in terms of some great art galleries and trendy marketplaces.

Just nearby, you can stop at Bear Mountain State Park, get some rest at the mountains and enjoy nature.

Furthermore, you can also enjoy the amazing scenery of the Hudson River.

As already pointed out, make sure you visit these places in summer or autumn, as some roads are closed in December, April, and a few other months.

The Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail is another great roadway from NYC, but certainly more suited for more adventurous types of people.

Spanning almost two thousand kilometers, the road is perfect for not only bikers but also hikers.

You can take a shorter route by going through Pennsylvania, and the towns of Bethlehem, Allentown, Lancaster, and others.

You may also stop at Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park, where you will be able to enjoy hundreds of kilometers of the forests and mountains.

Road Trips from New York City to Miami

The road trip from New York to one of the most beautiful cities in the US will give you an unforgettable driving experience.

As you travel, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery on some of the most fascinating beaches along the Eastern coast.

Not only that, but this route is also a fast one since it should get you to your destination for about two weeks, depending on your driving speed.

What is more, there are a number of great stop spots where you can rest and have a great time.

These are some stops that you can easily make on the route:

  • The New Jersey Shore
  • Ocean City
  • Norfolk
  • Cape Hatteras
  • Charleston
  • Savannah
  • Orlando
  • Miami
  • Key West

For instance, Ocean City is a resort town and one of the most beautiful ones that you will encounter on the route.

It has a lot of restaurants, shops, and hotels, which makes it a great place to stay in and take a rest!

Washington, D.C.

The road to Washington D.C. may not be the best one, but it is certainly worth it.

First, it is worth it because of the great monument complex that you will find there. The view will simply leave you absolutely amazed.

Second, the architecture of the buildings is amazing, and the touch of history will enchant you.

Nevertheless, be wary of the parking problems when you arrive, for Washington D.C. is known for very scarce parking lots, so do not be surprised if you find it difficult to park.

Killington, Vermont to enjoy skiing

November or December is the period when the ski season is open and you can enjoy skiing to the fullest.

In addition, traveling from New York to Vermont is not extremely tiresome and long, but since you will probably travel during the winter, it may become somewhat slower to get to it, and you should definitely take the necessary precautions.

Niagara Falls on the Canada border

The distance from NYC to Niagara Falls is over 400 kilometers, but don’t be discouraged by this. Niagara Falls is one of the most amazing wonders of nature not only in North America but in the world.

On the other hand, it is recommended that you visit Niagara Falls in autumn, and since the drive will take you around eight hours, prepare for staying the night at a hotel or some other place.

New York is a great jumping-off station to get to almost any cool place in the US. In that sense, make sure you use this golden opportunity and spend some quality time with yourself, and your loved ones!

How To Plan An Exceptional Wedding In New York City

Shop Wedding How To Plan An Exceptional Wedding In New York City

New York is also known as the city of dreams and many brides do dream about getting married here! So, take a look at how to plan an exceptional wedding in New York City!

Shop Wedding How To Plan An Exceptional Wedding In New York City

New York ranks fourth out of 51 states in its number of weddings, performing over 137,000 weddings in 2019. Today, we’ll give you some tips on how to plan an exceptional wedding in New York City.

It is a popular wedding destination for so many reasons, and being one of the greatest cities in the world is just one. New York City boasts so many places to hold a wedding ceremony, from sparse industrial spaces to lush outdoor parks, and it’s difficult to narrow down where you would like to exchange your vows.

One thing is sure though: each wedding that is performed in NYC is unique, and it’s not that difficult to plan one of the most unforgettable moments in your life.

Select A Unique Venue

NYC has loads of fantastic venues that you can choose from that will make your wedding unique. Fancy a wedding in Central Park, the New York Public Library or a cruise on the Hudson River?

If you’re a history buff, you can also arrange for your vows to be exchanged at the American Museum of National History. Note that if you’re choosing a venue that’s a public place, you might have to work your way around timings, since there are plenty of people in the area and you might not get a good photo op.

It’s also vital to include the pandemic regulations in selecting your wedding site. For example, mass gatherings might still be banned, and even if the ban is lifted, you must be flexible enough to plan or reduce the number of guests you can invite to comply with the rules.

Flexibility is vital in planning a wedding in NYC, from setting dates to changing reception venues.

Plan A Memorable Reception

If your wedding is held at an iconic venue, make sure that you offer a memorable menu at your reception.

A wedding at Central Park Zoo can feature vibrant colors and enticing entrée options. After a City Hall wedding, there is a plethora of restaurants that propose international menus if you have a diverse group of guests or if you have just flown in for your wedding.

It also goes without saying that you can transform your wedding venue to suit your personal style, even if it is held in a public space or a quintessential spot.

As long as it’s allowed by state or local ordinances, you can throw down an aisle rug and deck the assigned area with flowers for a wedding that is truly memorable. You can make any space work for you: the most important thing is that you’re getting married!

Getting hitched in NYC is a dreamy option for many couples and their guests. The city that never sleeps offers many possibilities for venues, not to mention the magical spirit of the metropolis that radiates from any event.

And lastly, if your dream wedding has always been in nature, don’t worry! The State of New York is amazing and won’t disappoint you.

Take a look at Stephanie Karvellas’ destination wedding at her Cedar Lakes Estate, a luxury custom NY wedding venue located in the heart of the Hudson Valley!

Wait! You prefer the beach!? Not a problem! You can take a look at this fantastic wedding that took place in one of the trendiest resorts in Montauk!

Exploring by bike makes it easy to see parts of the city secrets that other tourists rarely get to enjoy, and it also makes it easy to snap pictures, grab some street food, or simply take in the view.

Exploring Landmarks Downtown

Downtown, you can find many of the major landmarks of Manhattan, including the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, and Freedom Tower. You can also explore more hole-in-the-wall places, including small restaurants and specialty shops in Chinatown, Little Italy and the up and coming, South Seaport.

You can also see the filming locations of certain famous movies, including the Ghostbuster Firehouse, the Tiffany & Co. flagship store from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and many more. For a thrilling ride, you can cruise through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, the longest continuous underwater road in the U.S.

Experience Uptown Scenery

Uptown is known for its stadiums, like the famous Yankee Stadium, and museums through out the artsy Museum Mile. But, primarily tourists head up to see the scenery.

From the perspective of an automatic motorcycle, you can get some of the best possible views driving up the West Side Highway along the Hudson River. You might also see the palisades that rise over five hundred feet above, cross the George Washington Bridge, head up to the Medieval inspired MET Cloisters and wander through the less well known northern areas of Central Park.

Tour Midtown Monuments

Midtown Manhattan is home to the Empire State Building, Times Square, Grand Central Terminal, and other impressive bastions of culture and architecture.

Are you looking for something a little bit more out of the ordinary? You can visit sites such as the mysterious Rose Hill Historic House, the historic C.O. Bigelow Apothecary, or the quirky Chancellor Robert R. Livingston Masonic Library.

You’re looking to avoid the crowds and experience New York City from a unique angle? So, simply tour the city by motorcycle. Traveling by bike makes it easy to get around. You’ll be able to find all of the hidden gems that NYC has to offer.

Whether you’re riding through the streets of downtown New York, enjoying the sights of midtown, or exploring the refined uptown area, touring New York City by motorbike gives you a unique and exhilarating look at the city.

Some subway cars aren’t yet updated to show the next upcoming stops/transfers so use your phone to navigate where to get off.

You can catch a cellphone signal in between some stops, but play it safe with having it already on your phone. This way, you don’t get lost or have to hover over someone to check the subway car map.

And still, if you’re more into tech-hacks, just download an APP called “New York Subway MTA MAP”. It’s works with no wifi too!

#3 Bring a selfie stick

Curiosities Our Bucket List 10 Life Saving Hacks To Travel Around NYC DJI Osmo Mobile

It may seem like such a tourist thing to do, but if you don’t want to bother a busy New Yorker to take your picture, then this is the best way to snap a quick pic!

Which one we recommend? Try the one from DJI, named Osmo Mobile 2.

Also, for inspiration, follow Fomofeed to find all the cool free NYC instagram-worthy shots.

#7 Beware of street food

Find a food cart that has a long line or keep an eye out for the most trusted food cart, like the traditional “The Halal Guys”. We love them, and so does every other New Yorker in town.

You can find them at West 53rd Street corner with 6th Avenue, and a few other spots in the city!

We are always looking for and exploring unique properties in upstate New York to share with you. Cedar Lakes Estate is certainly on the top of our list.

We also know that many people aren’t really sure where to go or what to do during the harsh New York winter, so we decided to help out!

This past weekend, we packed our bags and headed upstate to stay at a place called Cedar Lakes Estate. We’ve been following closely experiences they’ve been creating for guests and couldn’t wait anymore to go and explore!

Located in the heart of our gorgeous Hudson Valley, Cedar Lakes Estate’s story is quite special.

To start, the property is family owned. A few years back, the sisters Stephanie and Lisa Karvellas, that have countless unforgettable childhood memories at the Estate, decided to share the property not only with friends, but with outside guests.

They started working and organizing everything, building new rooms and cabins and renovating what needed a fresh look. In no time, they got so much organic press that not only people started reaching out, but also super young companies like Uber and Google decided to host team gatherings and activities during the year.

Below a short video of our experience:

The property is really something! You’ll be able to indulge in their 500 acres with 2 lakes, 2 pools, miles of hiking trails, boats, tennis, basketball courts, football fields, ziplines, and the BLOB.

Let’s talk about their accommodations!

They have rooms for every style, pocket and need!

The Bluebird Cottage and the Lakeside Cottage are great for a complete experience. These cottages boast with spacious formats, king-size beds and private patios. Plus, each one has its own cool amenities like full modern kitchen, heated stone floors, fireplace, living room and/or dining area.

In addition, the 10 Sleepy Pine Cottages are under a beautiful cluster of pine trees! It offers one queen or two full size beds, rain shower, Nespresso machine and mini bar. Perfect in size.

Furthermore, the Poolside Cabana is fully equipped with a fireplace, washer/dryer, with access to pool area, patio, outdoor wet bar and refrigerator, gazebo (extra bathroom in gazebo) and it’s also pet-friendly!

The Garden Suite is perfect for families, or for the more demanding couples. It has a fully equipped din-in kitchen, a fireplace with sitting area and a beautiful, large bathroom.

And, their option for Glamping (glamour camping), is called Campstyle. This communal house can host up to 43 people common room seating areas and a kitchen. Don’t worry, the bathrooms are just as nice as the other options above, and also offer complimentary toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and body wash).

Finally, the Rustic Cabins are for people that really have camp roots with bunk beds, ceiling fans and a communal bathhouse. But, they offer fresh linens and towels!

Now, not many people know or can even imagine how many activities are available at properties upstate.

Cedar Lakes Estate is perfect not only in the summer time, but also during winter.

As they explain:

“Guests have full access to all that the grounds has to offer, including the use of the lakes, pools, hiking and biking trails, bonfire pits, tennis and basketball courts. With outdoor activities like The Blob, “drive in” movies under the stars, and guided yoga classes, we have everything needed for a memorable and refreshing getaway.”

Super cool right?

So if you’re the adventurer type, sporty-type or lets-chill-type, they have it all. Swimming, fishing, countless sports and games – basketball, tennis, volleyball, kickball, softball and football; plus, everyone’s favorite lawn games, like bocce, horseshoes, cornhole and ladder toss. Phiuf! What a list!

Close by the property, you can take some time to explore too. The region offers restaurants, breweries, farms, antiquing, markets, distilleries, artisan shops, ski mountains, and breathtaking hikes.

You might be asking…but what about the food and drinks!?

Where do we begin? We had a delicious, tasty experience and loved it all.

They have a garden where, not only they grow their own produce, but they also host summer outdoor dining experiences.

“Walk into our expansive Chef’s Garden and see where it all begins. The garden charms with its white picket fence and twinkling lights as we bring out the season’s best, harvested right beyond your feet. A 50-person farm table sits on a reclaimed brick patio in the center of the garden for a truly farm-to-table experience under the stars inside this expansive 4,000 square foot wonderland.”

“This Chef’s garden is a testament to our farm-to-table values, as we tailor our crops each season to grow produce specifically for the menus chosen by our clients. Whatever we cannot grow or make ourselves is sourced from our small-town farmer neighbors. We believe that cultivating a network of local purveyors ensures the most outstanding seasonal fare for your event.”

During winter, they put together a Après CLE Party and some really private Pop Up Dinners that gathers the coolest crowd from NYC and neighbor towns! The menu is to-die-for!

The Après CLE party is every Saturday, from 12pm – 6pm.

You can expect the grooviest tunes, a group of happy campers, old school toboggans, giant jenga, hot hot hot crackling fires paired with some yummy spiked hot cocoa!

We all know how cold upstate New York can get, but this party will certainly keep you pretty warm! From entertaining conversations, gorgeous folks and a bonfire pit that will be roaring all day long, you won’t want to leave!

You can also hop inside the Canteen every now and then, for some melty grilled cheeses, fig and brie hot sandwiches and some boozy hot beverages!

If you enjoy it, and still want to hang around for more, don’t forget about their multi-course Pop Up Dinners that happens 1 Saturday every month!

Just so you can get an idea of what these dinners look like, see the menu from our dinner:

  • Amouse Bouche: Roasted breakfast radish, sorrel butter, crispy white anchovy
  • First Dish: Diver scallop carpaccio, cured olive labneh, preserved winter citrus, charred fennel and toasted red millet. For Vegetarians, they substituted the scallops for potatoes.
  • Second Dish: Handmade braised wild boar tortellini, tomato rosemary sugo and fontina fonduta. For Vegetarians, they substituted the wild boar for ricotta.
  • Third Dish: Citrus seared Hudson Valley duck breast salsify 2 ways, braised endives, blood orange and brown butter roasted hazelnuts. For Vegetarians, they substituted the duck for Japanese fingerling sweet potatoes.
  • Grand Finale: Cinnamon panna cotta cardamom roasted persimmon, dark chocolate espresso bean crumble and anise shortbread.

Stephanie Karvellas’ destination wedding at her Cedar Lakes Estate, a luxury custom NY wedding venue located in the heart of the Hudson Valley!

Cedar Lakes Estate, a luxury custom wedding venue, was founded by entrepreneurial sisters Stephanie and Lisa Karvellas after recognizing the raw natural beauty of their parents’ 500-acre former summer camp in the heart of the Hudson Valley.

On a beautiful day in June, Stephanie herself got married at the Estate. As the owner and site coordinator, she was given carte blanche to host the most spectacular wedding imaginable. After building a team of the industry’s best, including Mindy Weiss as the planner, her vision came to life and the wedding was truly second to none.

About Stephanie, Derek and the Wedding:

Derek Baynton and Stephanie met Memorial Day Weekend 2012 in a share house in Montauk…not your typical love story. 25 singles in a beach house seemed like a recipe for disaster, but those who don’t believe in love at first sight, their housemates will tell you otherwise.

Since Stephanie spends all of her days planning other people’s weddings at her Estate, she wanted her wedding to feel different, and custom to what her and Derek care most about: extraordinary food, masterful cocktails, and creating an unforgettable experience for their beloved friends and family. Luckily she also had access to the industry’s best, who all couldn’t wait to make this wedding a showcase of their best work as well.

They held her ceremony at the 85-year old deck overlooking the lake and nestled under a pine tree sky. Their first look was when she walked down the aisle and Derek couldn’t contain his genuine tears. It was romantic and intimate yet dramatic and breathtaking.

Furthermore, she wore a backless Ghalia Lahav lace gown and looked ethereal against a 100-foot pine tree backdrop with thousands of candles flickering in the branches. The bridesmaids all wore floor length nude gowns of their choice. And, the groomsmen wore custom slim-fit midnight blue tuxes.

Stephanie and Derek offered three different cocktail hours in three locations.

The first one on the bluestone patio surrounding the infinity pool overlooking the lake, with a Montauk vibe. They offered lobster rolls, fresh sashimi cut to order, classic rum punches and live beachy music.

Moreover, the second, on the mountain top with views that span for miles, a live doo wop band (the same one who was present at their proposal under the Washington Square Park Monument). Plus, a variety of specialty cocktails all made with fresh pressed juices, herbs from the on-site garden, homemade bitters, and local craft spirits – all shaken by professional mixologists from NYC.

In addition, the final cocktail hour was in the open air pavilion with a massive stone fire pit. Decorated with tufted leather couches, cigar bars, cow hyde rugs and antler chandeliers, the men (and ladies!) enjoyed dirty martinis and small-batch whiskey flights.

Tastings In New York And Upstate That Will Blow Your Mind

Dining Red Hook Winery Tastings Glamour Mag Outdoor

We contribute with Glamour Brazil magazine and on this post we wrote about great spots for tastings in New York and Upstate.

Here is the Portuguese version and below, the English version:

New York is not only a perfect place for people who love art, shows, nightlife, shopping, gastronomy, but the “city that never sleeps” offers great options for those who enjoy wine, beer, whiskey and gin tastings.

Since several of these tastings take place inside their own factories, many are located in Brooklyn – a neighborhood big enough to host these huge buildings.

Another cool spot is a winery only 2 hours from Manhattan with tastings, outdoor yoga classes and happy hours with jazz music.
