Facade of the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Today we will show you how to have a luxurious trip to NYC on a budget! Take a look and prepare your bags!!!

New York City is known for being one of the most expensive cities in the world. The rent is expensive, a meal for two can be pricey, and you definitely count on taxis breaking the bank. But with that said, these high prices shouldn’t stop you from visiting NYC. So we will tell you how to enjoy NYC on a budget!

In fact, even though the city, both living and traveling in, can be expensive, it doesn’t mean that you need to sleep in sketchy motels or starve just to have a great time.

You can even enjoy luxury while exploring NYC on a budget. So, here’s how you can enjoy a luxurious trip in New York City while still remaining on a budget!

Stay in Manhattan

Preferably, you should stay somewhere like the Upper West Side when hunting for nice (and affordable) accommodation in New York City. But, it doesn’t need to end there, either.

Why stay in an Airbnb or even a hostel when you could indulge in a gorgeous hotel offering incredible service, such as The Lucerne?

Overall, Manhattan is an absolute must when visiting New York City, as it has some of the best hotels, views, and shops, but don’t forget about any of the accommodations, either!

On the other hand, open up to exploring and staying in other Boroughs like Brooklyn – which has been the hot spot in the last few years.

While Williamsburg is the hot spot, other neighborhoods like East Williamsburg, Greenpoint or even Cobble Hill, have great options. Plus, you’ll be more likely to explore the real New York, versus staying in Manhattan.

Eat Like a Local

One thing you want to SKIP OUT on is chains. Say “NO” to McDonald’s, TGI Fridays, BWW, and any other chain that you’re familiar with.

Why eat Cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory when you can instead go to Junior’s and enjoy some magnificent cheesecake there?

While these smaller businesses may not scream out “fancy” like a Michelin Star restaurant does, in the end, you’re getting the local experience, and that alone is quite a luxury!

And, as you guys know, we are all about exploring local spots, so be sure to book dinners in restaurants like Frevo (entrance behind a painting inside a gallery in Greenwich Village), Sunday in Brooklyn (where are always take people for their first Brooklyn experience) or Milk & Roses (at the very tip of Greenpoint, only with locals).

Ah! And never think twice when entering a local coffee shop! They are all amazing and incredibly charming!

Also, another great tip is, many of New York City’s best restaurants have special discounted prices on Mondays. It’s a slow day and you can actually have their main courses for only $15, like Osteria Morini (part of Altamarea Group)! Be sure to check out other restaurants and their Monday Specials!

Free show and event

As we said in the beginning, New York known for being one of the most expensive cities in the world. But, it’s also a city that offers countless FREE experiences throughout the year.

It’s one of the best cities in the work for music lover, art lover and entertainment in general.

Most museums have a special day a week (or a special day a month) with discounted prices, “pay as you wish” or free tickets. From the famous MET – The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim to other extraordinary ones like The Rubin Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum, you’ll be able to attend the best exhibitions maybe even for free!

There are Discounts for Everything

If you do enough research, you can absolutely count on finding discounts! Want to see a Broadway Musical while you’re in NYC?

Sure, it can happen! Tickets to Broadway musicals can be pricey, but a well-known but never old tip is to score discounted prices by visiting the TKTS discount booth in Times Square.

You may not be able to see a show you were dying to see, but regardless, you’re still going to be able to see a great show!

If you have credit card points, these can help you score experiences, too, whether it’s dining, shows, excursions in NYC, or even just transportation. For almost anything out there, you can expect to find discounts.

In the end, luxury has a different meaning for everyone. What may be luxurious to you may not be luxurious to someone else.

But, what matters most is just doing what you love and what you want to see in NYC while still saving some money. It’s possible, you can do it, and you can still count on having an incredible time during your stay…after all…it’s New York City!!! Enjoy NYC on a budget!

ARTECHOUSE invited us to another exclusive preview to experience a new immersive installation called Intangible Forms by Shohei Fujimoto!

This time, the new fully immersive visual experience is a multi-sensory, abstract journey into the known and unknown of the world around us.

It opened to the public on March 3rd, but due to the Covid-19 Pandemic closed in only a few days. Now, they reopened following all social distancing and safety protocols.

So, take a look below to see what it’s all about and guarantee your tickets!

About Intangible Forms:

The multi-sensory installation is abstract in nature and minimalist in form. It reveals to the viewer the elaborate and invisible systems that underlie our reality, making visible the powerful forces that shape our every moment.

The results are dramatic, visceral, almost operatic in nature. It invites guests to exist in a space and time all its own, for the duration of the visit. 1 Light, time, and autonomy are recurring motifs that travel throughout the installation. Coded operations serve as a building block for Fujimoto’s process of exploration.

Often, Fujimoto refers to code and the mathematical operations as the invisible markers that create form. Sculpting imagery not in a particular shape, but sculpting the mathematical operations behind the image to give shape. Both intricate and alluring, Fujimoto’s works are prime examples for a new way of drawing and creating visual artworks.

In addition, the centerpiece installation invites us to see the intangible as tangible using kinetic laser modules set in a hazy soundscape.

But, what is it all about?

”I’ve been trying to generate virtual consciousness and, in extension, virtual life in this work, triggering a deeper sense of humanity in ourselves” – shares Fujimoto.

This central idea continues through a series of four more works spread throughout the space. All of which are created to exist in their own time axis with limited functionality, that imitate life phenomena around us.

“I hope by the end of their visit, the guests are able to focus on their own universal sense of being.”

BACKSTORY:

About producer Rebecca Fay Walsh, aka Faymous, and her inspiration for creating alternative theatrical platforms and is “exposing Opera to a new audience and preserving this unique art form for years to come.”

“FAYMOUS was founded by Rebecca Fay Walsh, an Opera singer in New York City. “Fay,” a rising star in the Opera world, had been recognized many times by the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for her soprano voice.

In addition, when she arrived in New York City to pursue her career on stage, she was equipped with another tool beyond her voice; a recently purchased a DSLR Canon camera. Thanks to the ease and intuitive nature of the Canon cameras, Fay became a highly sought after portrait photographer in a matter of months, pulling her career trajectory in an unexpected direction.

Also, her talents garnered the attention of Emerald Gruin, the gallery director of the ROX Gallery on the lower east side where she was offered an artist residency.

During this time, Fay documented many of the greatest stars in the Opera world, not limited to Diana Damrau, Isabel Leonard, Ailyn Perez, Jamie Barton, Matthew Polenzani, and Sing for Hope founders, Monica Yunus & Camille Zamora.

Moreover, Emerald encouraged Fay to deepen her relationships with these exceptional artists by offering the gallery as a recital platform. Fay’s concept was to expose a new audience to these artist’s voices in a pure and exposed manner juxtaposed against the backdrop of a notoriously edgy contemporary art gallery.

After an Opera showcase, Opéra ROX, featuring Isabel Leonard and other stars of the Metropolitan Opera, FAYMOUS was born.

Lastly, FAYMOUS continues to maintain the spirit of this first performance, promoting classical singers and Opera by creating alternative platforms in New York. In building these platforms, Fay hopes to foster a new generation of Opera lovers, preserving this unique art form for years to come.”

Ford Foundation Center – Photo Credit: Garrett Rowland, Gensler

By now, you guys probably have noticed that we are all about uncovering NYC’s best secrets and sharing it with you! So, today we will tell you a bit more about the Open House New York Weekend!

There is just so much history and hidden gems in the city that it’s almost impossible not to suffer from the dreaded FOMO syndrome (Fear of Missing Out).

Some of the secrets we love the most range from exploring the Secrets of Grand Central Terminal Tour, and attending a VIP tour of the famous Woolworth Building, to even walking through the grounds of Green-Wood Cemetery.

There is just SO MUCH to see and these secrets are certainly a big part of why New York is seen as one of the best places in the world to live and visit!

The upcoming weekend of October 18th – 20th, Open House New York Weekend opens up 300+ sites for you to explore, tour, photograph, and visit!

“Open House New York provides broad audiences with unparalleled access to the extraordinary architecture of New York and to the people who help design, build, and preserve the city.”

During this weekend, you’ll be able to access some of these top city gems!

More about Open House New York:

Open House New York, founded by Scott Lauer in August 2001, engages New Yorkers in the city’s architecture, public space, and the future of urban life.

With the help of a dedicated board and volunteers, OHNY became an important platform for celebrating New York at a critical moment in its history.

Following the events of September 11th, when much of the city was closing itself off through increased security measures, OHNY offered a countervailing force, one that advocated for openness and access as key components of an enlightened and vibrant civic life.

The first Open House New York Weekend in 2003 was part of the city’s first Architecture Week. With the help of three hundred volunteers, that event included 84 sites in all five boroughs.

Since the inaugural year, the event has grown exponentially, increasing its outreach and audience participation; the number of sites, talks and tours; and developing additional thematic and interpretive programming. The 2017 OHNY Weekend had more than 250 participating sites and tours. It’s estimated around 80,000 visitors and more than 1,000 registered volunteers were part of it.

Through its year-round programs and the annual OHNY Weekend, Open House New York celebrates the best examples of design and planning throughout the five boroughs.

From historic to contemporary, it helps foster a more informed conversation about how architecture and urban design sustain New York as a vibrant place to live, work, and learn. Open House New York is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

In addition to OHNY Weekend, Open House New York organizes year-round programs. These extend the conversation that begins during the two days of the Weekend.

Programs include Projects in Planning, an ongoing series of presentations that explore the design and development of major new projects in the early stages of their development.

In addition, Making Place is an annual event that opens a range of architecturally and culturally significant sites in one neighborhood to look at neighborhoods in the midst of change. Lastly, Urban Systems Series, a year-long thematic series, explores important issues in New York City’s built environment, from manufacturing, to food, to waste.

Open House New York’s year-round programs are a significant platform for fostering discussion about how the city might take shape in the years ahead. Plus, it addresses issues including planning, preservation, infrastructure, and contemporary design.
