The mission at FEED is simple: “We create good products that help feed children around the world.

With the start of every new day, we see people questioning everything that’s going on, from climate change and natural disasters, to the undeniable help that underprivileged communities need.

“It’s hard to believe that hunger is a daily reality for 795 million people around the world—limiting human flourishing, health and potential in far too many communities. The most vulnerable are often children, whose mental and physical growth, and ultimately potential to create a better future, is dependent on this most basic human need.”

It seems that world we once knew is now becoming a difficult place to live, but what gives us hope are the thousands of people spread across the planet spreading the good!

New York is one of the busiest cities in the world, but even so, we have special people working to improve the lives of others

FEED is a project idealized and led by Lauren Bush, niece of ex-President George W. Bush and Ellen Gustafson, who started her career working with Communication at the United Nations (UN).

FEED Projects LLC

Lauren was a model for Tommy Hilfiger for two years in her yearly years in college, but shortly after that she became a spokesperson for the UN World Food Program (WFP). This was the trigger for changing her career and her view on the world

After her first trip, where she faced the harsh reality of children on the verge of death in Guatemala, Lauren decided to do more than just be a “spokesperson”.

It was there that she joined Ellen, who was also looking to do something bigger.

Lauren’s passion for fashion and design and Ellen’s desire to do something different had finally merged. The project is simple: a reusable bag, only with the project’s logo, where all income collected is directed directly to the UN World Food Program.

In a short time, the logistics and procedures for the United Nations to sell this bag became so complex and bureaucratic that Lauren and Ellen decided to leave the WFP.

Voilá! FEED Projects was founded!

FEED Projects currently works with numerous organizations such as WFP, of course, and others like UNICEF. Sales are mostly made online, where you will see how your purchase will help these children.

You can literally buy a $60 scholarship and feed a child for an entire year! How incredible is that, right!?

In addition, FEED Shop & Café is their first physical location in New York, located inside the majestic Empire Stores in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

“The shop features an assortment of our newest products, special in-store exclusives and a rotating curation of other socially conscious finds. Our cafe serves the FEED Heritage coffee blend, roasted in partnership with La Colombe, and a delicious selection of pastries and nibbles.”

Most of the bags are made in China, but the most expensive leather items are produced by hand in Kenya and Guatemala.

The models are as diverse as backpacks, classic totes and some duffle bags. And yet, the girls made a line called “Feed NYC” in 2010, with more elaborate bags made by the local clothing industry (of course, to incentivize the local economy) and were sold at Bergdorf Goodman. Oh! Shop the new FEED arrivals!

The project has grown so much that now several brands have become FEED partners. Companies like: Target, Disney, Pottery Barn, Clarins, Whole Foods Market, Gap, Tory Burch, Rachel Roy, DKNY, Links of London, Godiva, TOMS and Nordstrom are part of it.

And also, you can do more!

You can host your own Feed Supper! Here is how it works:

Let’s come together to help our neighbors!

Today, in neighborhoods across the United States, there are over 40 million people who aren’t sure where they will find their next meal. By hosting a FEED Supper, you will join a community helping to change that.

Host a dinner party that provides meals for more than just your friends

Your FEED Supper can be as simple as a pizza party or as formal as a seated dinner. Just ask your guests to make a donation to help fight hunger in advance of the gathering. It’s that simple.

The money you raise will help provide much-needed meals to families across America, through our giving partner, Feeding America. Learn more about their work to end hunger.

Let’s collaborate as well?

Finally, if you live in New York and you’d like to actively volunteer in a feeding program, our Founder Fernanda coordinates one called Friend’s in Need that happens every Saturday morning, at Tompkins Square Park in the East Village.

We would love to have you there helping us!

Hours:
Monday – Saturday: 8am – 7pm
Sunday: 8am – 6pm

Location: 55 Water Street

Walk MS 2017: Help Find The Cure To Multiple Sclerosis

BTSNYC Social Responsibility MS Walk 2017

We’re doing it again!!! Walk MS 2017 in New York City to raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis, support the cause and help to raise money to find a cure! Join us!

BTSNYC Social Responsibility MS Walk 2017

We had a great time last year’s MS Walk and will support this cause again in 2017!

Donate (if you can), walk with us, help support, and come meet us!!!

Date: Event will be on April 30th, in New York City!

Further infos, click here.

Our goal—a world free of MS.

We’ve formed a “Behind the Scenes NYC Team” for the Walk MS 2017 — a charity walk that is changing the lives of people with MS and helping fuel progress toward a world free of MS. We’d love your generous support as we prepare for this incredible experience.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. MS is different for everyone, and that makes it all the more challenging to solve.

The first Walk MS event was in 1988, and since then more than $970 million has been raised for research and programs to improve the lives of people living with MS. Today, there are treatments where there weren’t any before, and the dream of ending MS is becoming a reality. But there is still so much to do.

That’s why we’re walking. We’ve set an ambitious goal because we know with support from people like you, we will have a great chance at reaching it. The money raised will drive groundbreaking research, provide life-changing programs and guarantee a supportive community for those who need it most. This cause is really important to us, so we hope you can do your part to help end MS forever.

Will you help us reach our goal by donating what you can? Can start at $1 – any amount is welcome!!!

** 100% is donated directly to the MSSociety. **

Thank you!

Kindly,
Behind the Scenes NYC Team

THIS STORE UNFORTUNATELY PERMANENTLY CLOSED AND ONLY SELLS ONLINE!

The other day, our Founder, Fê Paronetto, was talking to a very dear neighbor and friend of hers that is Vegan about how hard it is to find sustainable, cruelty-free winter coats in New York. Most of the brands use some type of animal product in their products: fur, feathers, leather, etc.

So, her neighbor mentioned about a brand that is getting more and more attention over the past few years.

Vaute Couture, founded in 2008 by the gorgeous Leanne Maily, stands for “Haute” + “V” for Vegan.

They explain that they are:

The ethical fashion house for animal lovers: 100% vegan + eco + made in New York City”!

For a start, Leanne stopped eating animals at the age of 10 and, after that, her passion for sharing the Vegan lifestyle grew exponentially as the years went by! She also felt it was quite impossible to find beautiful, hot, “animal-free” winter coats in Chicago, where she lived before moving to NYC.

Subsequently, for a full 8 months, she researched all the fabrics in the market and all her possibilities. Some time after starting the brand, she moved to New York City, where she opened a first store in Williamsburg.

Then, on February of 2013, during the NYFW, she was named the “rebel of fashion week”. Plus, she received the title of the “next Stella McCartney”.

Obviously, this catapulted her brand helping her break out to the main stream audience.

In addition, the materials used come from recycled organic plastic bottles, organic fabrics and other cruelty-free materials. For example, the sweaters contain recycled cotton from the fashion industry.

The store, located on the cool Lower East Side of Manhattan, offers a huge variety of items. For the Ladies: basics, tops, sweaters, bottoms, dresses, shoes, gowns, body suits, swimwear, to the perfect winter coats – snow and wind proof, hats and jewelry. Today, they focus primarily on winter coats and sweaters.

Eventually, they more recently started the Gentlemen’s collection, so it has a smaller variety. It’s always been only winter coats and sweaters!

Additionally, the brand recently collaborated and threw a great party inside the store for Project Chimps. This project is a new sanctuary for 200+ chimps retiring from biomedical research.

They partnered up with other brands like: Vegan Treats, Kat Von D Beauty, Blossom Du Jour, Mother of Pearl, Querciabella, Kombrewcha, Urban Vegan Kitchen and Fresh & Co.

The Dodo debuted a video of the first 9 chimps first few weeks of freedom, and Vaute Couture designed a benefit tee that you can buy, to support them!

Pretty cool initiative, right?

Wanna know one of the coolest perks at the store?

Lastly, the 12 first customers that walk in every day are lucky to get a huge – and to-die-for – doughnut from Dunwell Doughnuts! We are completely addicted to them, by the way! One of the best doughnuts in New York City!

So, come explore this new hype in NYC!

Animal Haven: Pet Adoption – Say “Hi!” to Mickey and Vince

Social Responsibility Animal Haven Non Profit Pet Adoption by Tedi Sarah

Have you ever thought about pet adoption or fostering a little one? Animal Haven is a fantastic non profit that helps find loving homes from abandoned animals.

Social Responsibility Animal Haven Non Profit Pet Adoption by Tedi Sarah

If you’ve been following us for a while, you probably already know that we’re very engaged in Charity and Social Responsibility programs, right?!

Well, today we want to talk about a great non profit called Animal Haven.

They work in helping find loving homes for abandoned cats and dogs throughout the TriState area!

Plus, they also provide behavior intervention when needed to improve chances of adoption.

On their website, you’ll be able to find information regarding adoptions, different ways to support the organization, upcoming events, volunteer programs, and more!

One of our dear friends, Tedi Sarah, is a big part of this program. She is always fostering dogs – until they find healthy permanent homes.

These two cute pups on the picture are the duo she’s currently caring for, named Mickey and Vince!

Another great idea, if you have kids, is to foster pets! You don’t need to necessarily “commit to life” by buying one, and you can always foster!

We have to confess, we are pretty against buying pets in pet-stores. There is a lot of cruelty and abuse in these places with the animals, so we do not really support them.

More about them:

Animal Haven is a nonprofit organization that finds homes for abandoned cats and dogs throughout the TriState area, and provides behavior intervention when needed to improve chances of adoption.

Founded in 1967, we operate an animal shelter in Manhattan. We also provide programs that enhance the bond between animals and people.

Adoptions: Cats and dogs are for adoption at Animal Haven.

Fees are:

  • $175 per cat
  • $200 per kitten or $300 per pair (Two Kittens Are Better Than One)
  • $295 per dog (includes collar and leash)
  • Puppies under the age of 1 year are $395 (includes collar and leash)

Fee covers spay/neuter, vaccines, and microchip.

Many adoptions can be done same-day. Others may take more time to complete.

You may print and fill out the Adoption Application ahead of time, but they will only accept applications in person. Please DO NOT MAIL OR FAX it in.

Hours: Tuesday – Sunday: 12pm – 7pm
Location: 200 Centre Street, Little Italy

As many of you know, I participate in a few Charity & Social groups in New York City.

I’m a strong believer, as many of you probably are too, that we have so much time for ourselves, so why not donate a bit of it for those that really need us, right?

Every Saturday morning, I coordinate with a group of friends a Feeding Program, at Tompkins Square Park, called Friends in Need. We feed around 200 homeless people every weekend, rain, snow or shine!

More specifically, it’s on 7th Street between Avenues A and B, in the East Village.

It’s a group created by Friends in Need in collaboration with a beautiful group of volunteers, like the folks from Latinos NYC.

We always need help and everyone is welcome!

So, if you have any questions about the program, feel free to contact us!

DONATE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Date: Every Saturday, rain, snow or shine!
Time: Distribution starts 11:30am sharp
Location: Tompkins Square Park – East 7th Street, between Avenue A and B. We meet at the middle of the block!

About Friends in Need NYC:

Friends in Need Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization with a purpose of helping the less fortunate by providing food, clothing, and living necessities, as well as working with other organizations dedicated to ending or minimizing hunger and hardship.

In addition, we donate food and volunteer time to shelters and soup kitchens in need of financial and human resources. We also distribute warm clothing and accessories during the cold winter months and offer assistance to families through our Family Support Program.

Our feeding programs were initiated in New York City in 2002. Since then, we established and maintain regular programs in 4 metropolitan areas including New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and Pensacola, Florida.

The organization, run by volunteers, continues to grow with complete dedication to our mission of helping those in need.

Furthermore, Grand Master Choa Kok Sui (1952 – 2007) is the inspiration in the establishment of Friends in Need programs. He was the founder of modern Pranic Healing and Arhatic Yoga. He was a successful businessman, an adept scientist, and a spiritual teacher!”

DONATE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

A bit about Latinos NYC:

“Latinos NYC was founded in April of 2008. Its inception was born out of the vision of the Board’s Chairman, Raul K. Rios, who recognized many of the ills of his community were either being overlooked or under recognized.

Furthermore, Rios served his country in the United States Army from 1981-86, from which he retained the duties of the oath he took and a dedication to finishing his mission.

These characteristics and more are discovered in everything Latinos NYC does.

The company’s name derives out of the mosaic that the Latino culture is within New York City.

A contrasting conglomerate of shades, dialects, customs and more that somehow share a thread of similarity that makes the diaspora so vastly unique and congruent simultaneously.

Over the last several years, Latinos NYC has proudly garnered recognition for their work . In addition, they are continuously are expanding their efforts to grow and improve upon on their success.

So, come volunteer and be part of this amazing group of people! They strongly believe in giving back and working with the local community that needs help. Do you!?

DONATE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Today we’re going to talk about a NGO called No Kid Hungry. Did you know that more than 13 million kids in America lives in households that struggle to put food on the table? That’s 1 out of 6 kids! A pretty frightening statistics, right?

Plus,  1 out of 4 teachers say that their students regularly come to school hungry. Truly heartbreaking.

In the long run, not only we’ll have adults with malnutrition, but their intellectual development will surely be compromised.

As well as, on a larger scale, the future of economic growth of the Country with the growth of poverty.

Donate and help make a difference!

So, this is what No Kid Hungry does:

They are ending childhood hunger by connecting kids to effective nutrition programs like school breakfast and summer meals.

Through its Cooking Matters program, the No Kid Hungry campaign educates and empowers low-income families to stretch their food budgets, so their kids get healthy meals at home.

Moreover, the campaign works to shine a national spotlight on the crisis of childhood hunger in America. Hence, creating a powerful movement of individuals committed to bold action.

So, how can you make a difference for No Kid Hungry?

  1. Donate: In many places, only $10 you raise can feed a child up to 100 meals. The outcome of a small donation can help hundreds of kids.
  2. Fundraising: Once again, creative fundraisers are a great way to help raise not only money, but spread awareness.
  3. Organize small events: If you cook, how about doing a fund bake sale with muffins, donuts and/or other goodies?
  4. Attend their events: Not only will you have a great time, you’ll also be helping this important cause! See the closest event to you! If you’re in NYC, there are countless opportunities!

We’ve done our part today! Now, it’s your turn to help change their future and end child hunger in America!

Charity Water: 1 In 10 Live Without Clean Water, Let’s Change!

BTSNYC Social Responsibility Charity Water

Did you know that 1 in 10 people in the world live without clean water? An absurd, right? See what Clean Water is about and how they are impacting and working for a cause!

BTSNYC Social Responsibility Charity Water Girl

We’re super fond of great charity and social responsibility work and you’ll probably see various post about the most amazing projects growing now a days!

This time, we’re not specifically talking about a NYC charity, but it’s definitely one worth spreading the word about.

Charity Water is a non-profit organization on a mission to bring clean and safe drinking water to every person on the planet.

The numbers are surprising like: 663 million people in the world live without clean water.

That’s 1 in 10 of us – which is actually equal to twice the size of the U.S.!

It’s crazy to think that so many people around the world have actually no access to clean water that is actually safe to drink. Specially when we, in New York City, can drink out of practically any tap around the city. We are even known for having one of the best waters in world.

So, we’re here to share and raise consciousness on this issue, since we strongly believe that this is a basic, minimum that every human-being must have.

The three main things that make a difference in their work is that:

  1. 100% of your donations go straight to the field;
  2. They prove every water project they build using photos and GPS coordinates on Google Maps;
  3. They work with strong local partners on the ground to build and maintain water projects.

Charity Water has currently funded 24,537 water projects for over 7 million people around the world.

There are 3 ways to be part of this fantastic initiative:

  1. Donate: You can donate any amount you’d like. Just so you know — “Every $1 invested in clean water can yield $4–$12 in economic returns”.
  2. Pledge: For a special occasion like a Birthday celebration, instead of expecting gifts from friends & family, you can ask them to donate X dollars to this cause. Great idea, right!?
  3. Fundraise: As they say “Do something crazy or creative to raise money! Great idea if you have a big social following!

So, let’s help them!? Take a look at the website below to see how to donate, volunteer, partner up or even shop their store.

Lastly, the stories they publish online are beautiful and thrilling! Worth reading!

BTSNYC Social Responsibility MS Walk

Help us raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis. We’ve created a Behind the Scenes NYC Team to participate in theWalk MS this year! So, come support with us!

BTSNYC Social Responsibility MS Walk

We’ve created a Behind the Scenes NYC Team to participate in this year’s Walk MS, to support the research and extinction of Multiple Sclerosis (a.k.a. MS)!

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.

But, today there are multiple medications and people can actually have totally normal and healthy lives, even though they’ve been diagnosed with MS.

That is to say that the MSWalk will happen in New York City on April 17th. And, we’re calling family, friends, and new friends to participate with us!

Plus, donate ANY amount you wish – starting at $1, and come meet us on the 17th!

In 2016 the Walk MS: New York City participants raised $1,301,665.93 in 2016 to fund critical services, groundbreaking research and move us closer to a world free of MS.

In addition, 4,687 people made Walk MS: New York City a success in 2016.

About MS:

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. It is thought to be an immune-mediated disorder, in which the immune system incorrectly attacks healthy tissue in the CNS.

So, when you make a donation, you are changing the world for people affected by MS. Furthermore, the symptoms of MS range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis.

The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Moreover, most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease.

In addition, MS affects more than 2.3 million worldwide, and there is not yet a cure. Every dollar raised matters to those affected by MS.

Thank you for your support!

Lastly, Behind the Scenes NYC Team ranked #114 in the list of ”Walk 2016 Top Fundraisers as of May 2nd 2016″, raising $2,718 on the Walk MS.
