How to Make Your NYC Apartment More Liveable

It’s definitely amazing to live in a city like New York, but it’s not always easy. So, today we will show you how to make your NYC apartment more livable! Check it out!

Woman in NYC subway waiting to enter cart - Behind the Scenes NYC

For many people, living in New York City is the only option — there’s nowhere that they’d rather be.

The excitement, the buzz, the culture, and the convenience is something that you won’t find anywhere else.

It’s New York or nowhere, after all!

However, that doesn’t mean that every aspect of New York is incredible. The housing situation can be tough, and unless you’ve got millions in the bank, you’ll probably find that you have to work to make your apartment move liveable.

In this post, we’ll look at some handy tips that’ll ensure you can live in comfort, no matter the size of your NYC apartment or where it’s located.

Get to Know Your Neighbors

There’s a thing in New York, as there is in most big cities, whereby people don’t really know their neighbors. In some cases, they don’t even know their roommates.

But, there are a lot of advantages to getting to do so. You’ll find that things are much easier when you have people next door that can help you out when you need it (and you can help them out).

Plus, it’s just nicer to live in a place where you’re surrounded by friendly faces, rather than strangers.

Create Your Own Environment

You’ll live in New York because you live the buzz of life that the city provides. But also, it’s important to have your own space.

Your apartment should offer a breather from the mania of the outside world. But of course, this won’t automatically happen on its own! You’ll need to make it a reality.

You can do this by adding touches that make your apartment very much feel like your own. For instance, you could add plants, incense, and cozy lighting.

Get the Basics in Order

Life in New York can be tough — you don’t want to make it any more difficult for yourself than it needs to be! While the look and feel of your apartment matters, what really counts is that your apartment functions well.

All the basics should be taken care of. A problem with your appliance can be misery-inducing, especially after a long day at work. You can prevent these problems by learning how to fix basic problems.

If you know how to troubleshoot a leaky fridge, fix a leaky drain, and replace a showerhead, then you’ll be in a good position to keep your apartment working exactly as it should.

For some things, you’ll need to call a professional — but you’ll likely find that you can handle most jobs yourself, with a little bit of knowledge.

Increase Your Security

New York is awesome, yes, but it can also be dangerous.

While it’s highly unlikely that you’ll experience any problems, it’s best not to take any chances.

Investing in your apartment’s security will both make it less likely that you’ll be targeted and give you the peace of mind you need to really relax while you’re at home (and when you’re traveling).

Upgrading your locks and securing any access points will all make you feel safer.

Ways to Have an Enjoyable Move to New York City

Moving boxes inside an apartment - Behind the Scenes NYC

If you have a move on the horizon, then you may already be starting to panic. So, check out a few ways to have an enjoyable move to New York City.

Moving boxes inside an apartment - Behind the Scenes NYC

Moving can be a very stressful experience for some people, and most people feel it to some degree, specially if you’re planning to move to New York City.

However, the severity of the experience can be mitigated by putting into a place a lot of measures.

In fact, if you are prepared and have the right mindset, it can actually be an enjoyable experience. So, let’s find out how you can make your move a lot more fun.

Develop a Positive Mental State

One of the most important things you can do to make the experience enjoyable is to think positively.

Focus on where you are moving to and how you are making a fresh new start. When you go through your things, make it a fun experience.

Take your time and think about all the memories that you made there and all the new memories you will make in the new space. If you like organizing, you can see it as a great way to hone your skills.

If organizing is not your forte, then consider it a challenge.

The more positive spin you can put on the jobs you have to do, the better you will feel, and your mental state will remain steady about the move.

Plan in Advance

The earlier you start the preparations for the move, the easier it will all be. To avoid stress, organization is the key.

Start by creating a long list of tasks that need to be done. These will include contacting your utility companies, contacting insurance companies, etc., and getting a removal firm booked in with a date in stone.

This may be even more vital if you are going to be crossing state lines; consider a firm like interstate moving if this is the case.

With a moving date, you will find you have something to aim for, and you can start creating timescales.

Other things you’ll need is to start decluttering, getting the right packaging, telling the children about the move, informing your families, informing schools, and quitting your jobs (well, at least one of you will if you are a couple), and so on.

There is an awful lot to consider, but if you have the time, then you will be able to remember everything and do it all with time to spare.

Decluttering

This may well be one of the largest jobs and potentially the most difficult job.

If you have a lot of stuff in your home, you may have to go through a pretty hard process of throwing stuff away, selling it, or giving it away. All your clutter cannot go with you.

So, that means you need to grow strong and start getting rid of all the things that you no longer need. In some cases, if you have an attachment issue, you may need extra help. Plus, ask a friend or a family member to help if you are struggling.

Look at this process as a way of cleansing you before you make the move.

4 Tips to Adding More Style and Comfort to Your NYC Apartment

4 Tips to Adding More Style and Comfort to Your NYC Apartment Behind the Scenes NYC

Today, will share 4 tips to adding more style and comfort to your NYC Apartment. Check it out below!

4 Tips to Adding More Style and Comfort to Your NYC Apartment Behind the Scenes NYC

Living in a cramped, tiny apartment in New York City can be difficult, so come see how to add style and comfort to your NYC apartment!

The rent is high, yes! The space is limited, yes! And…everyone else on your block has a nicer place than you.

But don’t despair!

There are ways to add style and comfort to your NYC apartment without spending a fortune. This blog post will discuss four tips that will help you make your apartment feel more like home.

#1 Get rid of clutter

One of the quickest and easiest ways to make your apartment feel more stylish and comfortable is to declutter.

Go through your belongings and get rid of anything you don’t use or need. This will give you more space, but it will also make cleaning much more accessible.

If you have trouble getting rid of things, consider renting a storage unit for items that you can’t part with but don’t need on a daily basis.

This will free up valuable space in your apartment and allow you to keep important items. Decluttering can be a daunting task, but it’s worth it in the end.

Your home will thank you!

#2 Add some plants

Another way to add style and comfort to your NYC apartment is to add some plants. Plants can brighten up any space and make it feel more inviting.

They also help to purify the air, which is always a bonus in a city like New York. If you’re unsure where to start, consider getting a potted plant or two for your windowsills.

Or, if you have outdoor space, try adding some hanging plants or potted flowers.

Adding plants to your home is a simple way to make it feel more comfortable and stylish.

#3 Change up your furniture

If you’re tired of looking at the same old furniture, consider changing it up. You don’t have to buy new furniture to do this – simply rearranging your existing pieces can make a big difference.

If you don’t have much furniture, to begin with, try borrowing some from friends or family members.

Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try shopping at thrift stores or yard sales. You never know what you might find!

Changing up your furniture is a great way to add style and comfort to your NYC apartment without breaking the bank.

#4 Personalize your space

One of the best ways to make your apartment feel like home is to personalize it.

For example, hang up some photos, add some artwork, or put up shelves with your favorite books. Anything that makes the space feel more like you will help to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

New York City has some amazing vintage decor shops to source unique items as well!

You can also top it off with some motion sensor lights you can find online from companies like ECOGEAR FX.

If you’re unsure where to start, try looking for ideas online or in magazines. There are endless possibilities for personalizing your home, so get creative!

There are many ways to add style and comfort to your NYC apartment.

By decluttering, adding plants, changing up your furniture, and personalizing your space, you can make your home feel more like home.

So, get started today and see the difference! Your home will thank you.

How to Prepare for Your Moving Day in NYC: Tips for Executing a Flawless Move

How to Prepare for Your Moving Day in NYC Tips for Executing a Flawless Move

Moving from point A to point B within the City of New York is tricky even on the best of days. So, today we’ll help to prepare for your moving day in NYC with priceless tips for executing a flawless move!

How to Prepare for Your Moving Day in NYC Tips for Executing a Flawless Move

When you’re just changing to another address in the same city, your responsibilities aren’t limited to the regular checklist you need to tick off when moving. So, let’s talk about how to prepare for your moving day in NYC!

Instead, you’ll also have to deal with frustrating local laws, traffic, and people on both ends of your trip.

But before you lose hope, you should know that there are ways to make things easier for yourself.

All you have to do is make sure you’re ready well before the moving day in NYC comes along.

So, how to Get Ready for Your Moving Day in NYC?

Executing a flawless move in New York takes some research and a good amount of street smarts. So let’s see how we can plan for a successful moving day.

#1 Book Your Movers on Time

For such an enormous city, New York doesn’t really have that many reputable moving companies. So, anyone looking to have a stress-free moving day ought to book their movers on time.

If possible, you should start researching for movers in New York City several weeks or even months ahead of your move.

Once you have a list of companies you might use, make sure to get cost estimates from each.

To get proper quotes, your movers will need to know whether there are elevators or just stairs in the buildings you’re moving in and out of.

Also, if walking is the only option, you might want to let the movers know how many flights of stairs they’ll be looking at.

Even if we’re talking about buildings with elevators, having a freight elevator at your disposal would certainly be an advantage during your move.

On top of that, the time of the move may further affect your final price, as would any additional insurance.

But, of course, these are all things you should discuss with the movers before you book them.

#2 Dispose of the Items You No Longer Want

As your moving day draws closer, you’ll probably want to hit up some local businesses for cardboard boxes.

But, once you start filling them, you’ll find that not everything in your apartment will end up at your new place.

At that point, you’ll be presented with two options — either hand the items off to someone else or chuck them in the trash.

Of course, some items will simply be too big to jam into a trash container.

Luckily, the New York Department of Sanitation has a handy tool on its site that will tell you how you can dispose of different items.

At the same time, that’s not to say that you need to arrange for a curb side pickup of your old pieces of furniture.

There are other ways to get rid of items that are still usable. Namely, you could sell or even give them away for free on Craigslist and similar platforms.

#3 Consider New York’s Parking Regulations

New York City is a busy place. The last thing you’ll want to hear on your moving day is someone yelling at you to move along while you’re trying to help the movers unload your stuff.

That’s why you should understand the parking regulations that will affect your move.

Don’t be surprised if someone comes and writes you up for blocking the entrance to your new building for more than three hours.

Legally, that is the amount of time you’ll have for both loading and unloading.

So, you’ll want to work fast! Luckily, your movers should be pretty helpful in that regard.

Needless to say, someone will need to stay with the mover’s vehicle at all times.

On top of that, you’ll probably need a good parking spot, especially if you’re moving to or from the Lower Manhattan Blue zone, the Garment District, or Midtown.

Each of those areas has additional parking restrictions you should keep in mind.

#4 Notify Your Neighbors In Advance

To make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible, you should make a point of telling your neighbors that you’re moving on both ends of your route.

First and foremost, you’ll want to speak with the building management. They’ll fill you in on any restrictions you might have to deal with.

If you’re not too familiar with the area you’re moving to, ask if there’s a loading dock and service elevator. That kind of information will also help the movers prepare.

Secondly, you could also let your neighbors know the exact date and time of your move. You can either speak to them in person or put up some signage.

Either option should alleviate people’s frustration if the movers end up blocking the sidewalk.

Of course, some may interpret a written notice as an invitation to “borrow” stuff from the mover’s vehicle. But having someone with the truck at all times should prevent such occurrences.

If you live in an area where people park wherever they want to, you can also state that you will call a tow company if the movers can’t park near the building on the day of the move.

You’re leaving anyway, so you might as well burn those bridges while you’re at it.

#5 Have Snacks and Beverages On Hand

The weather in New York City can be pretty harsh, especially if you’re moving in the summer or winter months. So, you might want to get some snacks and drinks on hand for both you and your movers.

Juice and water are always refreshing, and during the colder months, you could also have tea or coffee in a thermos.

As for snacks, sandwiches and energy bars are a good option. Alternatively, you can buy chips and similar options at the store a day or two before the move.

In any case, keeping everyone’s energy up should make your move pretty easy.

When all your stuff is at your new place, make sure you thank your movers with a tip.

Generally, people should set aside about 5% of the total moving costs, which usually amounts to about $20 per person. A small price to pay for helping you deal with a stressful New York move!

So many people come to NY and tell me that they’d love to have a picnic at the park. They see so many locals having fun and they want the same experience, but don’t know where to start from or don’t have time to plan it all.

In addition, going to Central Park can be an overwhelming experience due to all the tourists roaming around. But, going to Central Park, with the right information of the best hidden spots for a delicious, unique picnic, can be priceless!

Plus, it’s also a great idea for a special celebration or a romantic afternoon at the park!

Well, we love this experience! Many of our private clients and corporate clients do too, and we’ve written about it before!

You will definitely have a great time! There are countless different options to choose from!

Horseback Riding

Yes! You can do horseback riding at Central Park too! Different from the carriages that over work the horses, our partner takes really good care of them.

Each horse works a maximum of 6hours a day and are transported to the park properly.

The tours are 1 hour long and pass by the most beautiful spots in the park from Strawberry Fields, where the John Lennon memorial is, to the Reservoir and other special spots.

If you have kids, it’s also a great activity since they have 10min pony rides. Little ones should be 2 years old at least and the guide is beside them all the time.

I rode Oscar, a huge, beautiful, white horse and had a great time exploring Central Park through another angle.

I had heard before that people could rent a jet ski, hop on and enjoy the Hudson River! But, I had never really tried it.

Well, I finally decided to be brave and go try it out, after all, how cool is it to actually ride a jet ski on this famous river?!

We got the ferry at a downtown spot, ride beside the 9/11 Memorial and head to a Marina on the Jersey side. It’s only 15min away from Manhattan. Super quick and seamless.

Each way costs $8/person and ferries leave quite frequently, so don’t worry.

There are 2 types of rides, a shorter one that covers mostly Midtown Manhattan and downtown, and the 2.5h ride that you actually drive around the entire Manhattan island. So cool!

I had a great time! The view is truly spectacular, it’s a priceless experience and the Hudson water is quite, by the way!

Fun Things To Do In NYC This Fall

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists Fun Things To Do In NYC This Fall Central Park The Lake

New York, New York is a fabled city of dreams. Considered the epicenter of American multiculturalism, New York City brings together the best of tourism, scenery, and choice. Today we will share with you some pretty fun things to do in NYC this Fall!

Unfortunately, since New York City has taken a considerable hit since COVID-19 infiltrated its borders, most of its iconic spots and activities have been suspended through the summer. However, it’s still possible to plan a fall trip for this year that blends the timelessness of tourist spots with the eclectic spirit of its hidden gems. We’re gonna show you some fun things to do in NYC this Fall!

Formerly known as New Amsterdam, the city we now know as New York was initially settled on the Hudson River by the Dutch in 1624. Forty years later, the English took over and gave the city the name we know and love today: New York.

It is perhaps most famously known as the “gateway to America,” as the city saw a massive influx of immigrants between 1892 and 1954.

Because of this fact, it’s estimated that up to 40% of Americans can trace their lineage back to this group of immigrants who entered the country via Ellis Island, which could arguably be America’s most famous border stop.

New York’s rich cultural history has cemented its status as one of America’s must-see cities.

But for those unfamiliar with its geographical and social landscape, it might be overwhelming to dive in and navigate.

Fortunately, we’re here today to provide you with a list of sites you’ll visit during your time in ‘The Big Apple.’

These might look like pretty touristy spots to go, far from a “behind the scenes” experience at first glance, but we always tweak the experience into a memorable and unique one!

So, keep on reading and check out a few fun things to do in NYC this fall, with our “behind the scenes NYC juice” to top it off:

Taking Broadway to another level with a Meet & Greet experience!

There’s no business, like show business, baby!

Any American who can carry a tune has heard of Broadway; its world-class theater productions draw millions of international visitors each year.

Many of its iconic shows and songs have woven their way into the cultural fabric and lexicon. Broadway itself is the name of the street where most of those theater companies made their home in the early 1900’s, a time when the height of the Industrial Revolution ushered in massive public transportation shifts.

New York’s new subway system made getting around the city far easier, and with it came the popularization of live theater entertainment.

Nowadays, Broadway’s definition has expanded to include all streets between 42nd Street and 53rd Street in Midtown and is appropriately named the Theater District.

While there was a downturn in demand for theater productions during the Great Depression, Broadway would soon rise again.

There’s several acclaimed Broadway shows in production this fall, and anyone who wants to get an authentic taste of the city would be wise to buy a ticket to see one of these shows.

If you’re new to the theater world, consider The Lion King.

Not only is the story familiar thanks to Disney’s hit 1994 animated film, but it’s also the highest-grossing Broadway show of all time, raking in over $2 million every week.

That’s $1.4 billion in total since the beginning of its run! If you’re looking for a brief account of American history with a modern-day twist, then we recommend Hamilton, one of the most popular shows to hit Broadway in years.

If you’d like to see this show but aren’t too keen on shelling out $150 for a ticket, you can enter a digital lottery to win one for $10.

Now, for our “behind the scenes NYC juice”! Watching a Broadway show is definitely an amazing experience, but we can make it priceless with a pre-dinner with the stars and a backstage meet & greet after the show!

How about that for a memorable experience, huh?! Definitely one of the highlights of fun thing to do in NYC next Fall!

Central Park and all its secrets!

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists Fun Things To Do In NYC This Fall Central Park Walking Tour

If New York is America’s most famous city, then Central Park is America’s most famous park.

The New York State Legislature set aside 750 acres of central land on Manhattan Island for park development on July 21, 1853. Central Park would become America’s first and largest public park and kicked off the urban park movement that would continue to spread throughout the country in the coming decades.

Those lobbying for the construction of the park argued that a big public park would contribute to the collective benefit of both society and public health. Their reasoning struck a chord, as nowadays America boasts over 53 national parks and 6600 state parks. Smaller public parks are estimated to double or triple the last number.

If you think all there is to do in Central Park is walk around, think again. You can fish for bass, explore Belvedere Castle, take in the floral scenery at the Conservatory Garden, and catch some Shakespearean theater if you’re so inclined.

What makes Central Park so amazing is that there’s something for everyone here.

Want to spread a blanket out on the Big Lawn and bask in the sun? You can do that–just don’t forget your prescription sunglasses (it gets pretty bright out there!).

Would you rather experience all the romance of a gondola ride without making a trip to Venice, Italy? Well, you can do that too on Central Park’s lake. If you’re new to the city, you have to make your way to America’s most beautiful and most memorable park before you go.

And still, let us organize a beautiful full picnic for you and your friend’s or loved ones! We’ll take care of everything from setting it up, to cleaning it all, when you’re done! It’s one of the fun outdoor activities you never thought about doing in New York.

Last, but not least, you can also sign up and experience the Secret of Central Park Walking Tour! So fun and you’ll learn even more, and explore a couple more off-the-beaten-path areas.

The Secret NYC Underground!

Perhaps, though, these tourist destinations aren’t your cup of tea – even though we added our unique twist. So here are some secret and fun things to do in NYC this Fall.

If this is the case, rest assured you’re in the right place to explore and discover a trove of establishments that generally fly under the radar.

New York City is teeming with cocktail bars and live music hubs that can give you a taste of the undercurrent of the city’s culture.

Peachy’s Cocktail Bar has an impressive set of house rules that accosts every visitor before entry: NO FIGHTING, NO PHOTOS. Indeed, in today’s picture-perfect world, a bar like Peachy’s is an excellent place to relax with a drink and unplug. Located at 5 Doyers Street in Chinatown, this chic speakeasy-like lounge is under Chinese Tuxedo – a restaurant we love!!

But the phone-free element is not the only part of its unique vibe. Peachy’s cocktail bar dons some seriously fresh tiger-print wallpaper, intricate floral arrangements, and myriad flickering candles that all work together to create a funky yet beautifully understated mood.

Its most famous drink comes with complementary blue algae, but don’t worry. Not only are these algae safe for consumption, but it’s flavored with pineapple to conjure up childhood memories of blue Fun Dip. Talk about a sweet spot!

Known as one of the hottest modern comedy clubs, Live @ The Apt has featured some of today’s most prominent, up-and-coming comedians, including Hannibal Buress, Hasan Minhaj, and Phoebe Robinson.

Live @ The Apt also partners with Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels’ Above Average Network to bring you the best on comedy production. They’ve also expanded their shows to national tours and branded content campaigns.

You won’t be disappointed if you make a trip to Live at The Apt. Just remember to bring your funny bone with you.

The list of things to do in NYC this Fall doesn’t stop here. But, we’d be here all day if we wanted to dig into all the uniquely incredible activities you could do in New York City.

However, know that it’s always good to keep your street smarts about you while you’re navigating the city.

We also have some travel recommendations for out-of-towners, and you can see the 16 Things NO ONE EVER Tells You About NYC.

Some additional tips include:

  • never getting into an unmarked cab (all yellow NYC cabs feature their driver’s medallion number on their taxi light),
  • sticking to well-lit, populated streets,
  • offering to panhandlers valuables like subway cards or food instead of money,
  • and keeping your wallet on you and within reach at all times (gotta watch out for those pickpockets).

So, we hope you’ve learned a little bit about our beautiful city today. We hope that you’ll get the chance to see it for yourself someday.

I’m not a mom (yet), but I always have a pretty hard time buying stylish, good quality clothes to my friend’s kids, that don’t cost a fortune!!! A sustainable children’s brand would be a dream come true too, right?

Those chain brands are great with prices, but after 1, 2 washes, it practically dissolves inside the washing machine, hahaha! Plus, you’ll probably see other kids wearing the same thing as your baby…that that’s just a “blah”!

That said, the other day I was walking around Williamsburg, in Brooklyn and bumped into a super cute store called The Little Red Planet. And I have to say, I fell in love with it!

Everything there was amazing, carefully though about, unique, fun, stylish and still, ethically curated! Since it’s an independently owned brand, like we love, they don’t have huge amounts of each piece.

Here is how Mindi Smith, the Founder, explains her brand:

“The Little Red Planet offers exceptional design, style and quality from over 30 global children’s designers. We want to introduce to you a new concept in ethical children’s fashion for the mindfully stylish.

Our goal is to hand-select designers who slow manufacture their apparel, give back to charity, and/or use organic and sustainable materials whenever possible.

I work creatively with our designers to bring awareness to and support global children’s causes. Let’s teach our children together that less is more, quality counts, and we can make a positive change in the world we live in.”

How amazing is this, right?

I really enjoyed everything they do and stand for! And now, I can finally buy kids gifts that I just really l-o-v-e and would buy for my own (future) kids!

Now, since you’re in Williamsburg, you might just want to head a few blocks North to the Artists & Flees Market. You’ll find some pretty cool stuff there too!

And lastly, you’ve never been to NYC because you have small kids, or you’re considering moving here, but you’re skeptic? Take a look at the many reasons why NYC is great for kids!

Hours: Monday – Sunday: 10am – 6pm

Location: 103 North 3rd Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
