When we heard that Natalie Hart would be performing at an upcoming Sofar Sounds, we were completely thrilled! We love her music, her voice, and most certainly her style! We don’t hesitate to say that she’s definitely one of the stylish girls in all of New York!

Natalie Hart’s show will be at a secret location in the East Village on Friday, November 17th. In addition, stay tuned since she’ll soon debute her newest album “Hang the Moon”!

A little bit about Natalie:

Natalie was born in Dallas Texas and her contact with music started even before being born. She was beautifully named after Natalie Cole by her father – the son of a retired Air Force pilot and music minister.

She tell us that: “My musical influences stem back to my love for the dramatique and the singular, unmistakable voices of the classic female vocalists of the 1940s.”

Belmont University in Nashville, TN was where she studied Music Business and started to refine and create her own identity. Her inspirations come from big names like Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Sarah Vaughan. Not only was she passionate about the art of singing, but songwriting quickly grew in her and her love for lyricism emerged.

“Natalie always knew her theatrical jazz-pop would find a home in New York, and she began saving up to move to the city where she knew her musicality would unfold. “Hang The Moon” took shape in her last year of school and her last year in Nashville, diving into and deconstructing youthful infatuation and playing with cinematic themes.

The album was recorded in Smoakstack Studios and mixed in LA by Greg Wells, famed producer of Adele, Katy Perry, and more top-selling artists. She left for New York with the record in hand, and has spent the last two years building a fan base in New York, London, Nashville, and more.

Natalie aims to find her voice and to preserve people’s moments through her music.”

There are some very well-known venues, but the behind the scenes, secret ones are surely our preference, as you know!

The Standing Room is actually the “little sister” to The Stand Comedy Club in Gramercy – that has been named by the NY Magazine, the “Best Comedy Club”.

The Standing Room is an intimate speakeasy style cocktail bar that has definitely called our attention for numerous reasons. After going there once, for a night that we weren’t really sure what to expect, we became totally obsessed with the place.

As you enter a small door (we loved it already!), you’ll find a beautiful long wooden full bar. Lights are very dim, music is pretty good, sitting area is scarce with only a few stools around the bar, but it’s actually just perfect. The bartenders are all pretty stylish and very friendly folks that’ll help you out figuring out the best drink for you.

The house is known for offering Long Island City’s premier cocktail experience, and their signature cocktails are surely worth trying! The recipes were created by the award winning Mixologists, Joji Watanabe.

One of the cocktails we always order is the “Flower” made with dry gin, lavender, elderflower and cranberry. The best? It’s served inside a super cool lightbulb (picture on image gallery)!

We’ve also tried other cocktails like the “Smoke”, made with bourbon, ancho chile, cyan and house bitters. “Truffle” is quite interesting, mixing bison grass vodka, truffle honey, muscat and grapefruit.

The list is endless, so you’ll definitely have a great time trying them all! Prices range from $11 – $13, which is pretty good too!

They don’t really serve food, except for a few bites like:

Cheese Board – A selection of 3 cheeses sourced from beecher’s handmade cheeses
Charcuterie Board – A selection of 3 cheeses sourced from beecher’s handmade cheeses accompanied by a pairing 3 artisan cured meats
Beef / Pork Jerky – House cured sweet pork and beef jerky
Steamed Cheeburger – Served on egg challah roll with vermont sharp chedder

Now! Let’s talk about the Comedy Nights! To start, it’s free!

So, what to expect from the comedians? Well, they are surely some of the best up and coming stand-up comedians in Queens, so it’s practically impossible to go wrong. Their line up is always fantastic and they usually have around 4 different performances at 2 different times – 8pm and 10pm.

Even if you decide to just hang around the see the 2nd performance, you’ll definitely see the beauty of how improve can change the course of their show.

We are sure you’ll have one of the best nights, so just grab your drink and enjoy!

We organized an awesome Brazilian-inspired night at the trendiest WeWork location in Brooklyn: Williamsburg!

All the guests were able to explore the best of what the Brazilian culture has to offer!

The night started with a fantastic tasting experience with the artisanal Cachaça Yaguara. Thiago Camargo, the Founder himself, came in to tell us the story behind the brand. He talked to each guest individually and served the cachaça spirit.

We also had some of the most delicious empanadas in the world. We catered not only to the meat eaters, but also to the vegetarian crowd, with a to-die-for cheese flavored option!

Then, everyone sat around to listed to the very talented singer, Aline Muniz, perform a private pocket show exclusively for our group!

After the show, she talked to everyone and took pictures!

In sum, we all had a great time!

About Aline Muniz:

Singer and songwriter Aline Muniz is definitely a complete artist.

She one of the leading exponents of the new and exciting Brazilian music scene.

Currently gearing up to launch her international career Aline is setting up base in New York City and working with respected A&R/Producer Béco Dranoff, to release a digital compilation.

We also recommend going to the House of Yes, in Bushwick. They have some pretty unique events and shows if you enjoyed the super human circus.

The Greenwich Village is one of our favorite neighborhoods in Manhattan and there’s just so much to do there. Here are a few of our top picks.

For shows with upcoming bands, you can check out The Bitter End. If you want to go for dinner, you can try Rockin’ Raw for the vegans and Buvette if you enjoy a cool French cuisine. Banter Bar is great for a light meal and coffee! And, to see and be seen, go for a drink at Bar Pitti.

First Time Out: A Variety Show With Emerging Artists

This is a post if you’re into singing or if you enjoy upcoming talents! We’ve written about Sisters Bklyn a while ago and we really enjoy everything that they do! First Time Out is a variety show with emerging artists and talents!

Sisters Bklyn is not only known for their craft beer, cocktails, but also for nice wine.

Most important, they are well known throughout the cool artists/singer community. Why? They encourage these artists by hosting events where they perform and show their talent to the world.

What this event series, called First Time Out, all about?

“We’re going back to our roots with genuine first timers and first time performances (is that you?). This is one for the books so come give your love, meet new friends, and support budding artists.”

This great idea came to life a few years back in 2014. The idea was to help emerging actors, singers and talents in different industries that have never performed and shown their art to the world, to share it!

Today, with over 100 different performances, they recruit and organize events where these talents present themselves to curious crowds.

Also, the guests are some of the coolest and most cultural-oriented people out there. They appreciate different forms of art, they celebrate diversity and they are supporters by heart to these brave souls that put themselves out there.

Therefore, we do have to agree, they do have to be courageous to open up to a “strange” audience. Our Founder, Fê, loves engaging with these artists. For one, she is a fantastic networker and can talk forever with you, but has opened up about her fear of public speaking.

Anyway, getting back on track, be sure to see their upcoming shows. This one, will be hosted at Pete’s Candy Store.

We recently went to the Nuyorican Poetry Cafe for a live poetry slam night and we were in complete “awe”! It’s definitely a true New Yorker experience you have to try.

The Nuyorican Poetry Cafe is located in the East Village, close to East Houston Street.

The entrance of the place has some pretty awesome graffiti work on the walls and you’ll notice only a very local crowd hanging out there.

It was amazing to see the upcoming poets performing for the first time and definitely amusing to see the veteran poets rockin’ on stage!

Some of these veterans are the top Poets in the Country! They do mix poetry with music, uniting a great creative community in a dim lighted, beautiful brick walled, kinda dirty-cool space.

The space was founded by Miguel Algarin back in 1973. At that time, the magic happened inside his own living room, also in the East Village. Obviously, the neighborhood was very different back then.

Society was also very different and segregation was definitely more intense. There is a great group that is part of the founding artists behind the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.

These guys were fantastic musicians of color, poets and some were playwrights. Their work was very unique and groundbreaking, but back then, it wasn’t accepted in the entertainment industry, as well as in other industries.

A bit over two years later, the space became small to host the rising number of artists eager to be part of this community. They expanded into an Iren Bar that was called Sunshine Cafe, but that lasted only another few years.

The space got small, once again, and they finally purchased and moved into their current location in 1981. They were able to bring in all the artists, expand the programs and the various activities they offered.

“Our Latin Jazz Jams on Thursday nights fill the space with stellar tunes by celebrated musicians. Our Hip Hop events include open mics and competitions for poets, freestylers and emcees, as well as collaborations for storytellers and jazz musicians.”

Nuyorican Poetry Cafe one of the most unique spots in the East Village and we are sure you’ll have a fantastic and enlightening time there!

New York City definitely offers the most unique and amazing theatrical experiences in the plant! With a breathtaking scenography, super talented actors and, of course, the coolest crowd, these shows are always on the top of our list!

“Sleep No More is an award-winning theatrical experience that tells Shakespeare ’s Scottish tragedy through a film noir lens. Audiences move freely through the epic world of the story at their own pace, choosing where to go and what to see, and everyone ’s journey is different and unique. This indoor promenade performance can last up to 3 hours.”

…but the duration really depends on the spectator and what he/she feels like experiencing and observing.

The experience is retelling the famous Shakespeare’s tragedy, “Macbeth“, lived in a 1920’s hotel.

How does it work?

There are 5 arrival times for each performance ranging from 6pm – 12am depending on the day of the week.

First, this is not a seated performance. The Hotel transformed 5 floors and 93 rooms into this massive performance space where the guests walk through these different ambiances. You’ll be exploring different sceneries, observing thrilling and emotional performances and sometimes even interacting with the peculiar performers. No one talks inside! So keep it silent, please!

Also, every one receives a Venetian mask to keep the identities confidential This way, everyone feels more comfortable in being “voyeurs”, since there are some spicy scenes.

The rooms are amazing and were transformed into: a hospital’s psychiatric ward, an ultra luxurious room, a forest, a sophisticated hotel bar and several other surprises. The actors and actresses wander around the spaces, interact with each other and with the guests. This way, you can see the show in different chronological orders, as you wish.

After the show, look for the Manderley Bar where you can have a drink, relax and listen to music. Note: Prohibited to kids below 16.

At the rooftop, you’ll find Gallow Green, a perfect spot specially during the summer time. The décor is pretty cool, with lots of greens all around. It’s considered one of the Top 10 Bars/Restaurants in the City. The sunset there is amazing, so you can chose to swing by before the show starts for a drink.

If you want to finish the night with dinner, you can also book a table at The Heath. They offer a dinner menu, a Sleep No More Prix Fix Menu and a delicious Dessert Menu.

For our new NYC Hush Hush Tips, we invited the Brazilian Journalist and Blogger, Chris Pitanguy to share her favorite NYC spots.

We couldn’t be more honored to interview this Brazilian beauty and super powerful women, Chris Pitanguy. She shared some of her favorite NYC spots and we have to say, they are all fantastic places to go and #UnCover!

Chris Pitanguy studied journalism and founded a fashion and luxury consultation company in 1995, in Brazil.

A few years later she used her expertise working for a few shopping centers and increased her portfolio with numerous renowned Brazilians brands.

Chris, as friends call her, is part of the elite collaborators for Vogue Magazine and Harpers Bazaar.

Ind addition, she has an important work as Publishing Board Member and Lifestyle Curator for Forbes Magazine Brazil.

Besides her super busy agenda, she still has a lifestyle and fashion website and co-founded Eu Ajudo Foundation, which supports important causes, in Brazil.

Definitely an amazing, multitask beauty…that is still working in community-driven work! A perfect sum!
