Tasting The Biggest Wine Bottle I’ve Ever Seen, at Macari Vineyards

Day Trips and Travels Macari Vineyards Wine Tasting

When people come to New York, they forget that their trip doesn’t to be confined within the 5 boroughs. The state of New York is beautiful and filled with amazing adventures. I explored the North Fork of Long Island, known for the countless vineyards and wineries, like Macari Vineyards!

Since I’m a huge wine lover and I decided to take you on a journey with me, to one of my favorite wineries, Macari Vineyards. This gorgeous family-owned, family-operated vineyard and winery is located just 1.5 – 2h from Manhattan and the trip itself is a beauty.

Based on the North Fork in the Long Island region, it’s known for being the home to countless great wineries spread throughout these lands.

I met with gorgeous Gabriella Macari at the winery and had not only a great tasting experience with her, but was given a complete tour of the property. And I mean, WOW! I was truly amazed with what the Macari family has built and the memorable experiences they are offering their guests.

So, let’s start from the beginning! Oh! And don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE to our channel!!!

Their story goes way back to the 1930’s, 40’s when her grandfather, Joseph T. Marcari Sr. started producing wine in his basement located in Corona, Queens – with his dad and granddad.

Several years go by, business starts flourishing and in the 1960’s they decide to purchase a 500-acre property in Long Island – the same land they are currently on. This old potato farm took quite a few years to regenerate and go back to becoming super fertile.

But, after that happened, and they were able to start producing wine, business took off and never stopped!

Now, what to expect when you arrive at Macari Vineyards?

The first glance at the property is already breathtaking. Everything these is impeccably taken care of, to the smallest detail. Inside the main house, you’ll find the store with their numerous wines and different bottle sizes. There, you are also able to do some wine tasting, before deciding on which bottle to actually purchase and take home with you.

This house has a huge and beautiful porch. The perfect place to continue your tasting with a great prime view of the winery. It’s the perfect start to your experience at Macari.

After you’ve tasted their wines and paired them with a few yummy appetizers – like a great cheese and charcuterie platter – you can explore and tour the property. And, of course, continue your tasting.

Zé Luis Oliveira: A Grammy Nominated Multi-Talented Musician

Zé Luis Oliveira is a Grammy nominated multi-talented musician that I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and becoming friends with! His journey is amazing and we’re now working on some pretty awesome projects together!

Culture Music Ze Luis Oliveira Saxaphone

A while back, I was invited by Zé Luis Oliveira to visit the Atelier Music Studio in LIC (Long Island City) – his music studio!

What!?!? You’ve never heard of Zé Luis? Well, you should! Let us help you out!

Zé is a renowned Brazilian composer, saxophonist, flutist, producer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist. His career is fantastic for he’s performed and recorded with some of the biggest names in the Brazilian music scene known worldwide like Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Cazuza, Bebel Gilberto and Tania Maria.

I recently told him that I participated in a super cool tour with Siemens, showing how they helped build our NYC and that I had gone on stage at the Carnegie Hall (empty, of course), he said, “Super cool, Fê! I’ve actually played there around 5 times!” Hahaha! How cool is that!?

He moved to NYC in 1990 and never moved back to Rio de Janeiro, his hometown. Furthermore, Zé received his Masters in Composition and Arranging from the super famous Juilliard School, in NYC.

Then, in 2013, Zé Luis started producing and recording an amazing project called Trade Winds. It’s a series of music collaborations with NYC bassist and composer Matt Geraghty, that travel along the historic triangle trade route, exploring the history and evolution of music through improvised compositions. In addition, Trade Winds builds collectives of premier musicians in coastal cities looking to reveal a common footprint of music, rhythm and culture.

In 2015, he launched The Atelier Music Studio, in Long Island City, a highly effective multipurpose workspace.

Plus, Zé wrote and produced music featured in the Cannes Film Festival, TriBeCa Film Festival and in films like Rio, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner, Monster-in-Law with Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda and A Raisin in the Sun with Sean Combs, Audra McDonald, Phylicia Rashad and Sanaa Lathan.

And still, he holds 4 Grammy nominations: 3 for Best Contemporary World Music Album and 1 for Best Latin Pop Album.

Phiuf!!! What a journey right? But, believe it or not, that’s not even 10% of what he’s actually done! You can take a look at his website below to know more!

In addition, he’s partnered up with us at Behind the Scenes NYC, so stay tuned to see how we’ll be shaking the streets of NY with him! Oh! He is also the creative mind behind the music featured on our YouTube intro video!!!! It was an honor, since he produced it exclusively for us!!!

And, if you haven’t SUBSCRIBED to our channel yet, what are ou waiting for!? So, come explore New York off the beaten path with me!

Plus, take a look to see a few pictures of secret music gig curated by us, called Sofar Sounds, where Zé Luis performed! By the end of his shows, guests were going crazy and clapping loudly!!!

Founded in the 1960’s Baron’s Cove frequently hosted big names like Truman Capote, Jackson Pollock and Paul Newman. The hotel recently passed through a 2 year renovation and is at full speed ready for the Summer Season!

To start, it’s located around 100 miles from Manhattan. In a few hours, you’ll get there to have a fantastic time!

They offer 67 super charming rooms and villas, a heated salt water pool, tennis court, fitness studio and spa services. What else? Complimentary beach service with transportation.

Also, their dining options and experiences are fantastic. They have an all-American restaurant where you can enjoy your meals and take advantage of the gorgeous view from their porch. There is nothing like an outdoor meal, right? Chef Matty Boudreau uses fresh and local ingredients to prepare his delicious dishes.

In addition, the Lobby Lounge is great for drinks, while the outdoor terrace is perfect for enjoying some small bites to hold off ’till dinner!

The hotel offers everything for a perfect Summer at Sag Harbor. From an outdoor pool, spa and fitness center, to the beach just steps away, they have it all! If you forgot something at home, they have a small store to purchase anything you might need.

“On foot, stroll up and down Main Street to discover singular boutiques, galleries, and local museums, or dine at the most widely-acclaimed restaurants in the Hamptons.

By boat, explore the stunning local waterways, coves, and marinas. Or drive just minutes to the freshest local farm stands and some of the finest ocean beaches on the East Coast.”

In short, do visit them during this upcoming summer in Sag Harbor.

It’s surely one of the best times of the year to enjoy all the outdoor activities. And also, watch a gorgeous sunset, explore the North Fork lavender fields (Yup! We have lavender in New York!), and experience tastings in the local wineries.

The Hedges Inn: NYC’s Great Escape in the East Hamptons

Day Trips and Travels The Hedges Hamptons by Joey Zauzig Joey

This week, our Contributor Joey Zauzig, shares his relaxing and guilt-free experience. He headed up to the East Hamptons for the weekend and stayed at a charming B&B called The Hedges Inn.

Day Trips and Travels The Hedges Hamptons by Joey Zauzig

“I need a vacation!”

A sentence I think every New Yorker uses at least once a week. Not because we like to complain (only sometimes), but because life in New York tends to take a toll on the mind and body. Which is why it’s kind of key to escape, especially on the weekends, because lets face it…nothing good or exciting ever happens. It’s beyond saturated with tourists and B&T’s (Bridge and Tunnelers).

So where do you go?

Well, preferably a remote island off the coast of wherever! But us, working guys and gals, need something quicker, which is why The Hamptons is the easiest route to pure rejuvenation. The keys to a successful NYC’s great escape to the Hampton’s starts with where you decide to rest your head. Once you accomplish that, the weekend takes care of itself.

Last week was one of those that I absolutely needed to get away. I know I could only do a quick weekend situation, but I wanted it to at least feel like I was out of New York completely. As I said before, one of the most important aspects of your Hampton’s getaway, is your accommodations.

Usually when I head out to the Hampton’s for the summer I stay with friends, but since it’s off season, not many people are out there just yet. I found the cutest Bed & Breakfast called The Hedges Inn, located in the East Hampton.

To be honest I hadn’t stayed at many Bed & Breakfasts in my 23 years, but now I’m hooked. This place was filled with charm and right away I felt at home, so I created my own hashtag for it: #HomeAtTheHedges.

The rooms were super cozy. I felt like I was in a quiet country house in the South of France.

Instantly I felt like the weight of the city was lifted off of my shoulders. Also, who can beat home cooked breakfasts complete with a mashed avocado toast topped with a bacon and an oozing egg or a baked egg, spinach cheese and bacon dish. Ok, I let the diet go…and had the cinnamon buns, but isn’t that what vacations are for?

This, hands down, is my new favorite New York City escape.

Now…a little bit about the property:

Overlooking the beautiful village pond, The Hedges Inn is an East Hampton landmark. We are around the corner from world-class beaches and steps from the Village, restaurants and shopping.

The Hedges Inn is an exclusive enclave nestled amongst East Hampton’s legendary estates. It’s home to the legendary swans that, like our guests, return year after year!

Built in the 1800’s and recently renovated to the highest standards, The Hedges Inn strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated luxury and unpretentious seaside charm.”

We are sure you will enjoy this charming B&B!

While you’re around Long Island, you might want to check out Sag Harbor too! For the yoga fans, try Yoga Shanti classes to start your day!

We organize fantastic corporate trips upstate for outings, annual retreats, team building experiences and much more! If you’re coming with family and friends, we can help you out too!

How they describe themselves? “A badass burger-creating, in-house-butchering, beer-pouring alternative to the bland.”

To start, BBD stands for Beer, Burger and Desserts! Sounds delicious right? It’s definitely the place to splurge and enjoy the “day-off” your diet!

Located in Rocky Point, Long Island, is owned by Chef Ralph Perrazzo, that has an amazing background experience in high-ended restaurants. Curious to know which ones? Bradley Ogden at Caesars Palace, Jean-George in Manhattan and Clio in Boston.

After learning and tailoring his expertise at these esteemed restaurants, he decided to fly solo and start is own business.

He explains it better:

There are a plethora of “Burger” restaurants flooding the market as of late, but BBD’s stands out among the pack for being the only one that makes all three cooking styles of burger.

Craving a big juicy Steakhouse Burger, cooked the way you like it on a wood & charcoal grill, with your choice of toppings? BBD’s has it.

Got a hankering for that sloppy, griddle burger with all the fixings and a secret sauce? It’s there. In the mood for a steamed burger, with spot-on onion flavor infused and a super soft bun? It’s waiting for you.

Everything is literally done in-house: from the burgers and sausages to their chicken nuggets in the kid’s menu. Their craftsmanship certainly differentiates them from other businesses.

Also, BBD is also part of the craft beer movement and offers ’25 direct draw draught brews and 40+ bottles’.

The desserts? Ah! Surely work aaaall the calories. Chef Ralph is known from having fantastic sweet-hands and his desserts are to-die-for.

All dishes are quite unique and has a special touch, that entertains and amuses guests

Hence, they are always coming back for more!

Finally, we do recommend organizing a day trip or a weekend getaway to Long Island. If you need help to plan everything out, discover unbelievably cool activities and get everything scheduled, talk to our experts to see all our Concierge Services.

New York State hides several of places that are great getaways from the City. Long Island is a good choice if you want to spend a day away from New York City’s craziness. The region is famous for its vineyards and also for the beaches. But, did you know there is a lavender farm in Long Island too? Yup! You don’t need to catch a flight to Provence to see some gorgeous lavender fields.

Lavender by the Bay is a lavender farm which is located in Long Island, specifically in East Marion. It’s a premier lavender farm and one of the largest in the Country. The farm is owned and run by a family that have been growing the highest quality lavender in Long Island for over 15 years.

The fields have twenty varieties of lavender, growing across seventeen acres, which offers in over 50,000 plants. The best part? Lavender by the Bay is opened to the public and you can visit the fields during the blooming seasons. The aroma of the place, we guarantee, is irresistible!

Before to plan your visit, you need to keep in mind that there are just three blooming periods during the year. Lavender by the Bay has lavenders from France and from England, and that’s why the blooming happens in different times.

The first English Bloom typically takes place mid to late of June and sometimes into early July.

The main French Bloom usually begins in early July and lasts about 2 weeks. According to the farm, this is the best time to visit the place, because this bloom is the most impressive.

Do you still want a chance to see the lavenders?

Well, you can check out the second English Bloom, that typically starts late Summer/early Fall. But, it’s good to remember that we are dealing with mother nature. So, you can’t predict the exact time – these are approximations. You should follow Lavender by the Bay on Facebook to check the updates about the blooming.

There is a $5 per person (ages 12 and up) field entry Fee. Once you visit the place, don’t forget to check out their store – it sells lavender cosmetics, lavender honey and, of course, lavender.

Lavender by the Bay in Long Island is definitely a great experience!

If you enjoy the region, you might enjoy visiting Sag Harbor on another weekend!
