The Hedges Inn: NYC’s Great Escape in the East Hamptons

This week, our Contributor Joey Zauzig, shares his relaxing and guilt-free experience. He headed up to the East Hamptons for the weekend and stayed at a charming B&B called The Hedges Inn.

“I need a vacation!”

A sentence I think every New Yorker uses at least once a week. Not because we like to complain (only sometimes), but because life in New York tends to take a toll on the mind and body.

Which is why it’s kind of key to escape, especially on the weekends, because let’s face it…nothing good or exciting ever happens. It’s beyond saturated with tourists and B&T’s (Bridge and Tunnelers).

So where do you go?

Well, preferably a remote island off the coast of wherever! But us, working guys and gals, need something quicker, which is why The Hamptons is the easiest route to pure rejuvenation. The keys to a successful NYC’s great escape to the Hampton’s starts with where you decide to rest your head. Once you accomplish that, the weekend takes care of itself.

Last week was one of those that I absolutely needed to get away. I know I could only do a quick weekend situation, but I wanted it to at least feel like I was out of New York completely. As I said before, one of the most important aspects of your Hampton’s getaway, is your accommodations.

Usually when I head out to the Hampton’s for the summer I stay with friends, but since it’s off season, not many people are out there just yet. I found the cutest Bed & Breakfast called The Hedges Inn, located in the East Hampton.

To be honest I hadn’t stayed at many Bed & Breakfasts in my 23 years, but now I’m hooked. This place was filled with charm and right away I felt at home, so I created my own hashtag for it: #HomeAtTheHedges.

The rooms were super cozy. I felt like I was in a quiet country house in the South of France.

Instantly I felt like the weight of the city was lifted off of my shoulders. Also, who can beat home cooked breakfasts complete with a mashed avocado toast topped with a bacon and an oozing egg or a baked egg, spinach cheese and bacon dish. Ok, I let the diet go…and had the cinnamon buns, but isn’t that what vacations are for?

This, hands down, is my new favorite New York City escape.
