ARTECHOUSE invited us to another exclusive preview to experience a new immersive installation called Intangible Forms by Shohei Fujimoto!

This time, the new fully immersive visual experience is a multi-sensory, abstract journey into the known and unknown of the world around us.

It opened to the public on March 3rd, but due to the Covid-19 Pandemic closed in only a few days. Now, they reopened following all social distancing and safety protocols.

So, take a look below to see what it’s all about and guarantee your tickets!

About Intangible Forms:

The multi-sensory installation is abstract in nature and minimalist in form. It reveals to the viewer the elaborate and invisible systems that underlie our reality, making visible the powerful forces that shape our every moment.

The results are dramatic, visceral, almost operatic in nature. It invites guests to exist in a space and time all its own, for the duration of the visit. 1 Light, time, and autonomy are recurring motifs that travel throughout the installation. Coded operations serve as a building block for Fujimoto’s process of exploration.

Often, Fujimoto refers to code and the mathematical operations as the invisible markers that create form. Sculpting imagery not in a particular shape, but sculpting the mathematical operations behind the image to give shape. Both intricate and alluring, Fujimoto’s works are prime examples for a new way of drawing and creating visual artworks.

In addition, the centerpiece installation invites us to see the intangible as tangible using kinetic laser modules set in a hazy soundscape.

But, what is it all about?

”I’ve been trying to generate virtual consciousness and, in extension, virtual life in this work, triggering a deeper sense of humanity in ourselves” – shares Fujimoto.

This central idea continues through a series of four more works spread throughout the space. All of which are created to exist in their own time axis with limited functionality, that imitate life phenomena around us.

“I hope by the end of their visit, the guests are able to focus on their own universal sense of being.”

Faymous presents A Night of Opera: Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi with stars of the Opera world at one of NYC’s most legendary nightlife venues!

GET TICKETS!

For one-night-only, Rebecca Fay Walsh and Faymous Productions presents A Night of Opera with an immersive modern interpretation of the classic Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi.

Staged against the iconic backdrop of The Box NYC, one of NYC’s most legendary nightlife venues. It will be performed by some of Opera’s most notable performers — including a former NY Yankee.

Tickets start at $50/person and all proceeds will go the Sing for Hope.

SYNOPSIS: Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi

“Rigoletto’s” a seemingly innocuous pizza shop run by a famed deformed clown, Rigoletto, is actually a store front for Sicilian mob boss, “the Duke,” who uses the venue as an actual speak easy to operate his drug distribution efforts.

The unsavory scene is a playground for the Duke’s depraved behavior, where a father’s curse destroys everything that Rigoletto holds dear.

ABOUT SING FOR HOPE:

Sing for Hope uplifts lives by unleashing creativity in under-resourced schools, healthcare facilities, refugee camps, transit hubs, and public spaces.

Furthermore, their work ranges from art workshops that improve academics for at-risk students to specialized music programs that enhance cognition for dementia patients, to arts interventions that facilitate integration for refugee youth, to the Sing for Hope Pianos that unite communities in our world’s public spaces.

BACKSTORY:

About producer Rebecca Fay Walsh, aka Faymous, and her inspiration for creating alternative theatrical platforms and is “exposing Opera to a new audience and preserving this unique art form for years to come.”

“FAYMOUS was founded by Rebecca Fay Walsh, an Opera singer in New York City. “Fay,” a rising star in the Opera world, had been recognized many times by the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for her soprano voice.

In addition, when she arrived in New York City to pursue her career on stage, she was equipped with another tool beyond her voice; a recently purchased a DSLR Canon camera. Thanks to the ease and intuitive nature of the Canon cameras, Fay became a highly sought after portrait photographer in a matter of months, pulling her career trajectory in an unexpected direction.

Also, her talents garnered the attention of Emerald Gruin, the gallery director of the ROX Gallery on the lower east side where she was offered an artist residency.

During this time, Fay documented many of the greatest stars in the Opera world, not limited to Diana Damrau, Isabel Leonard, Ailyn Perez, Jamie Barton, Matthew Polenzani, and Sing for Hope founders, Monica Yunus & Camille Zamora.

Moreover, Emerald encouraged Fay to deepen her relationships with these exceptional artists by offering the gallery as a recital platform. Fay’s concept was to expose a new audience to these artist’s voices in a pure and exposed manner juxtaposed against the backdrop of a notoriously edgy contemporary art gallery.

After an Opera showcase, Opéra ROX, featuring Isabel Leonard and other stars of the Metropolitan Opera, FAYMOUS was born.

Lastly, FAYMOUS continues to maintain the spirit of this first performance, promoting classical singers and Opera by creating alternative platforms in New York. In building these platforms, Fay hopes to foster a new generation of Opera lovers, preserving this unique art form for years to come.”

Open House New York Weekend: Exploring NYC’s Best Secrets

Events Up Coming Open House New York Weekend Brooklyn Army Terminal by Nicolas Lemery Nantel

Open House New York Weekend is just a few days away! You’ll be able to explore NYC’s best secrets in a weekend filled with excitement and access to out of bound spots!

Events Up Coming Open House New York Weekend Ford Foundation Center by Garrett Rowland Gensler

By now, you guys probably have noticed that we are all about uncovering NYC’s best secrets and sharing it with you! So, today we will tell you a bit more about the Open House New York Weekend!

There is just so much history and hidden gems in the city that it’s almost impossible not to suffer from the dreaded FOMO syndrome (Fear of Missing Out).

Some of the secrets we love the most range from exploring the Secrets of Grand Central Terminal Tour, and attending a VIP tour of the famous Woolworth Building, to even walking through the grounds of Green-Wood Cemetery.

There is just SO MUCH to see and these secrets are certainly a big part of why New York is seen as one of the best places in the world to live and visit!

The upcoming weekend of October 18th – 20th, Open House New York Weekend opens up 300+ sites for you to explore, tour, photograph, and visit!

“Open House New York provides broad audiences with unparalleled access to the extraordinary architecture of New York and to the people who help design, build, and preserve the city.”

During this weekend, you’ll be able to access some of these top city gems!

More about Open House New York:

Open House New York, founded by Scott Lauer in August 2001, engages New Yorkers in the city’s architecture, public space, and the future of urban life.

With the help of a dedicated board and volunteers, OHNY became an important platform for celebrating New York at a critical moment in its history.

Following the events of September 11th, when much of the city was closing itself off through increased security measures, OHNY offered a countervailing force, one that advocated for openness and access as key components of an enlightened and vibrant civic life.

The first Open House New York Weekend in 2003 was part of the city’s first Architecture Week. With the help of three hundred volunteers, that event included 84 sites in all five boroughs.

Since the inaugural year, the event has grown exponentially, increasing its outreach and audience participation; the number of sites, talks and tours; and developing additional thematic and interpretive programming. The 2017 OHNY Weekend had more than 250 participating sites and tours. It’s estimated around 80,000 visitors and more than 1,000 registered volunteers were part of it.

Through its year-round programs and the annual OHNY Weekend, Open House New York celebrates the best examples of design and planning throughout the five boroughs.

From historic to contemporary, it helps foster a more informed conversation about how architecture and urban design sustain New York as a vibrant place to live, work, and learn. Open House New York is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

In addition to OHNY Weekend, Open House New York organizes year-round programs. These extend the conversation that begins during the two days of the Weekend.

Programs include Projects in Planning, an ongoing series of presentations that explore the design and development of major new projects in the early stages of their development.

In addition, Making Place is an annual event that opens a range of architecturally and culturally significant sites in one neighborhood to look at neighborhoods in the midst of change. Lastly, Urban Systems Series, a year-long thematic series, explores important issues in New York City’s built environment, from manufacturing, to food, to waste.

Open House New York’s year-round programs are a significant platform for fostering discussion about how the city might take shape in the years ahead. Plus, it addresses issues including planning, preservation, infrastructure, and contemporary design.

Be sure to book your ticket asap, since many of them sell out in just a few hours! Plus, you can always sign up to their newsletter and stay in the loop of what happens throughout the year!

In addition, if you’d like to support this cause and help them continue their work, see what you can do and how you can be part of their year round events, meet ups, tours and more!

14 Best NYC Halloween Parties And Events In 2019

Events Up Coming NYC Halloween Parties Blood Manor Main Pic

Come see which are the best NYC Halloween parties and events in 2019! There is just so much going on for all styles and ages!

Events Up Coming NYC Halloween Parties Blood Manor Thumb
Photo Credit: Courtesy of Blood Manor.

If you’ve been to New York before, you know for a fact that the NYC Halloween parties are the most anticipated ones of the year, and is definitely when some of the best parties and events happen in town!

But, if you’ve never to been to NYC, or if you’re finally booking your ticket to come explore the city in October, you have to know that New Yorkers take this date e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y seriously!

I mean, believe it or not, people start putting together their costumes months in advance. Not to say, many know their next year costume as soon as the Halloween week is over!

The city gets a full make over with some of the most creative decorations beautifying home façades, as well as store windows. The countdown starts weeks in advance to this big day!

Many of the best parties happen every year, and the teams behind them definitely get creative and always surprise.

On the other hand, there are other events around town that are great for families and kids (for under 21 years).

Take a look at the 14 best NYC Halloween parties and events in 2019:

#1 Blood Manor

(Looks like Jimmy and Kevin Hart had a pretty fun time there…lol!)

This is definitely one of the best NYC Halloween events you could ever go to, but I have to confess… I honestly never had the courage to go to! I’ve heard SO much about this, had friends attend, but I never had the guts! This house of horror seems so real that I get palpitations just thinking about it.

It’s considered not only one of the most amazing haunted houses in New York, but it was recently voted the #2 best in the entire country!

Located inside a historic building Tribeca, you’ll experience 5,000 square feet of themed rooms, corridors, and a labyrinth of passageways that will challenge your deepest fears.

Now, a creepy and quite intersting story: Mathew Brady, the renowned Civil War-era photographer, was responsible for photographing President Abraham Lincoln’s portrait that today is used in our $5 bill. After a nasty accident and 2 broken legs, he got pretty ill and eventually died. Now, the curious part…some sources say that he actually committed suicide… WHERE? Inside the building where Blood Manor is located!! So, be sure to stay alert, because you might just “bump” into some real ghosts.

If you’re still curious, you can see more on this YouTube video.

As they say, “Go ahead and scream… it’s not going to matter.”

Dates: Multiple days available until November 9th.

#4 Queen of Hearts: Mad Masquerades

Events Up Coming NYC Halloween Parties CompanyXIV
Photo Credit: Courtesy of the party.

Company XIV is known for its burlesque attractions that have attracted a huge crowd throughout the year! And, I have to say, New Yorkers love a burlesque show that mixes circus performances, sensuality, comedy, dance and more!

This year, the theme was inspired by the famous story “Alice in Wonderland” by the English writer, Lewis Carroll.

In addition, expect lots of magic, opera and cocktails inspired by your favorite character!

Datas: October 31st, November 1st and 2nd

#6 City of Gods by House of Yes & ZERO

Events Up Coming NYC Halloween Parties House of Yes City of Gods
Photo Credit: Courtesy of the party.

This year the party is called “City of Gods by House of Yes & ZERO” and, for those who don’t know, House of Yes is one of the coolest spots in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

The party will be at another event venue, but organized by the folks at House of Yes and I can say … this party promises to be amazing! I already guaranteed my ticket, since it runs out super fast and I’m sure it will be one of the top NYC Halloween parties!

They invite by saying, “We salute all deities, demigods and demons, gods and goddesses, creatures of creation and those dedicated to hedonism beyond the human realm.” WUHU!

More about the event:

City of Gods is hosted at the absolutely magnificent Grand Prospect Hall in South Brooklyn, a 4-floor venetian hall with 15+ rooms of music, dancing, performance, and discovery. The event features some of the biggest and best Burning Man camps – Comfort & Joy, Disco Knights, DISTRIKT, GlamCocks, Mayan Warrior, Pink Mammoth, and Tierra Bomba – and notoriously, we do not release the music lineup before the party.

The whole vibe is to invite people to experience the event with open hearts and minds, not to chase any specific activity, but rather to come ready to explore and connect. Saturday tickets will be sold out by this weekend and Friday tickets are moving fast as well.

Dates: October 25th and 26th

#8 Bane Haunted House

Those who like haunted houses have-to-go to the Bane Haunted House. They do an amazing job of working and picking on some of people’s most common fears: claustrophobia, separation anxiety, clowns …

There are over 100 actors spread around almost 40,000 square feet and this year the participants will have an experience where they are part of it all. You “may have to climb up, jump over, crawl through, and spin around what lurks inside the haunted house for a spine-chilling, interactive experience.”

Are you brave enough?

Dates: Multiple days available until November 10th.

#9 Nightfall Greenwood Cemetery

Events Up Coming NYC Halloween Parties Greenwood Cemetery
Photo Credit: Courtesy of the party.

The Greenwood Cemetery, located in Greenwood Heights, right next to Industry City, an area that is expanding and worth a visit, is wonderful!

In addition to being a really beautiful and super well-maintained graveyard, it’s the “home” of big names like the famous Brooklyn-born artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, Samuel Morse creator of the Morse Code, William Colgate – yes, the founder of Colgate and even Leonard Bernstein a famous conductor, composer, and pianist.

Well, all this to say that there is no better place to spend Halloween than inside a cemetery, right? I’ve been to this even before and recommend it!

Dates: October 25th and 26th

#10 Bartow-Hell Haunted Mansion Tour

Guys, seriously… when I went to watch this Halloween Dog Parade at Tompkins Square Park in the East Village, I almost died of so much love for puppies.

I was enchanted with every creative costume that dressed the most diverse dog breeds! I remember this tiny pup dressed as a pumpkin….he definitely got all eyes that day!

So, if you are a dog lover, it worth to pass by!

You’ve never heard of the Annual New York Burlesque Festival? Well, it’s about time!

This is a 4 night, 5 event festival of burlesque, boylesque and variety. It will take place in New York City on September 26th through the 29th.

They are celebrating their 17th year of glitter and glamour in Gotham. So, we’re here to help spread the love for their art and work!

We’re excited with the entire festival, but specially the Saturday Spectacular at Sony Hall on Saturday, September 28th. In addition their is also the Sunday Burlesque Bazaar – a mini shopping mall full of glamorous goodies!

Get tickets here!

“4 Days & Nights of Glitter and Glamour in Gotham with burlesque, live music, vending, classes and more.
Put on your top hat n tails for the Saturday Spectacular at Sony Hall, below The Paramount Hotel on 46th Street. This magical night is hosted by the king of comedy Murray Hill and showcases only the finest Burlesque performers from around the globe in a 1920’s supper club atmosphere. This is truly a luscious night, not to be missed!”

So, you can’t attend the festival but you enjoy burlesque art?

There are a few on going performances that happen in New York that you can also enjoy and that we really recommend going.

Company XIV, created by the Juilliard graduate Austin McCormick, they mix everything from dance, theater, circus, opera and burlesque, to a decadent design to create a one of a kind theatrical experience.  Their work has a huge inspiration on the reign of Louis XIV, but with a contemporary twist.

Dances of Vice is another priceless experience! I was going to try and explain it in my own words, but they just put it so beautifully. I decided to get an excerpt from them:

Dances of Vice is a fetishistic New York nightlife sensation specializing in highly stylized themed entertainment and fantasy clubbing experiences. Dances of Vice attracts a decadent menagerie of creative mavericks and sensual sophisticates who gather in mutual devotion to beauty and shared defiance of social convention to celebrate the liberating effects of fantasy and surrealism.”

These immersive theatrical experiences and burlesque shows are always breathtaking and unpredictable. So, I’m sure you’ll have an unforgettable experience!

New York City is known for its beautiful night lights year round and, of course, for its abundant Christmas decorations! People travel from all over the globe to visit NYC during this time of the year, as well as New Yorkers also have a great time!

NYC’s 1st Winter Lantern Festival will happen through January 6, at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, Staten Island!

What to expect?

To start, you’ll see around 40 LED installations that can be as tall at 30 feet up, spread throughout 7 acres of land and over 30,000 Chinese lanterns.

It’s a fantastic experience for all ages that shows the beauty of the Chinese culture, with art works, dances and so much more!

The thematic lanterns installations have curious names: Light Tunnel, Wonderland, Sea World, Animal Kingdom, Chinese lights, Panda Paradise (ha! cute!) and Holiday Zone!

Oh! There is also a huge dragon!

“In Chinese culture, dragons are used to symbolize power and strength. They are often depicted in the colors red and gold, which represent good fortune and neutrality.”

In addition, entertainments are varied! Face changing, martial arts shows and lion dance. The water sleeve dances can be traced all the way back to 221 B.C., when dancers used clothing and other techniques to elongate their arms, creating an eye-catching performance. Plus, there is still sugar painting and a fun zone!

Oh! And the process of creating these lanterns is crazy! Take a look at the video below!

So, be sure to purchase your ticket and get your phone ready for we’re sure you’ll be able to get some pretty awesome pictures to share on social media.

Top Halloween Parties 2018 In New York City

Events Up Coming NYC Halloween Parties 2018 Blood Manor

I can’t believe that Halloween is just around the corner, again! How crazy fast did this year go by, right? Take a look at the top Halloween parties 2018 in New York City!

Events Up Coming NYC Halloween Parties 2018 Blood Manor
Blood Manor

I can’t believe that Halloween is just around the corner, again! How crazy fast did this year go by, right?

We ALL know that Halloween is the best time of the year with some of the most amazing parties spread throughout the entire city, or country! People travel from all over the globe and come to New York to enjoy this special weekend and go home with endless stories to tell!

Well, like last year, we decided to share with you which will be some of the top parties in the city.

Where am I going? I’m also still not sure for one simple reason: the type of music I enjoy is totally different from the music my friends enjoy! I love psychedelic trans (minus the drugs, lol) and my friends just h-a-t-e it! Ha! The past 2 years, I went to Circo Loco, that is also listed below and loved it!

Tickets are running out and getting super expensive, so be sure to figure out where you’re going and guarantee your ticket(s)!

Oh! And besides the parties, I listed a few costume and make up stores to get you ready for the party!

McKittrick Hotel

Events Up Coming NYC Halloween Parties 2018 McKittrick Hotel

You’ve probably heard of Sleep No More, right? If not, it’s the city’s top theatrical experience inside the McKittrick Hotel, where they recreated a non-chronological show portraying the famous Macbeth, written by Shakespeare. Everyone’s face has a mask, preserving all identities and making everyone anonymous.

This is one of the top parties in Manhattan for one simple reason: these guys know how to put a party together!

As they say: “Guests are strongly encouraged to arrive dressed in expressive creations that give regard to the residences tradition of deviant witchcraft – be it a witch, sorcerer, enchanter, vampire, beast, or monster. Alternatively, you could come in dress inspired by the occult, in all black.”

Location: 530 West 27th Street

Circo Loco

Ah!! This is the party I told you in the intro that I love and I’ve been to the past two years! If you’re into electronic music – the type that makes your bones shake – then, this is certainly the place for you!

They always organize it in one of those huge Brooklyn warehouses far from everything! The organization is great, the DJ’s lineup is always fantastic with international names and the costumes are truly creative.

Party starts pretty late, but I usually arrive early because lines get crazy. But, if you’re a night owl, you’ll love it!

House of Yes

You’ll be able to enjoy 4 different parties they’ve organized for Halloween, so see which one if your favorite!

Babël

The party this year is called “Garden of Eden with Black Coffee” and the team behind the party said that it will be a dream journey leading us back to our lost paradise.

“This year’s celebration is dedicated to our beautiful and beloved planet, Gaia. We may come together to protect it so we can retrieve our lost paradise.”

And, the party will happened at a beautiful place called Duggal Greenhouse, in Brooklyn.

Titanic Masquerade – Pier Pressure NYC Halloween Yacht Party

Do you like boats? Ok…let me rephrase. Do you like beautiful yachts, with gorgeous people, good music and a priceless view of Manhattan’s skyline?

Well, if your answer was yes, then continue reading! The Titanic Masquerade party will take place in a yacht that will float down the famous Hudson River for 3 unforgettable hours!

You’ll be able to see not only the breathtaking Freedom Tower at the One World and our Lady Liberty, but also other memorable sights.

Plus, everything paired with the music of some of the top DJs!

Twilight Tour no Green-Wood Cemetery

Events Up Coming NYC Halloween Parties 2018 Green Wood Cemetery

Last Halloween, I attended another party that also happened inside the renowned Green-Wood Cemetery, in Brooklyn. And, I literally loved it!

The party I went to was later at night, but this year they are doing a pre-event from 5pm – 7pm, when the sun starts setting. We all know that this is the time where cemeteries start getting fun, right? Lol!

If you are like me, you will LOVE this experience! I really thought it was unforgettable and still, you’ll be able to head to another party after it!

Oh! And just thought you’d like to know: the experience ends in a place completely off bounds to the common public: inside one of their catacombs.

Location: 500 25th Street

Blood Manor

In general, haunted houses usually corny and not really scary, but I can guarantee that after you walk inside Blook Manor, you’ll have quite a hard time going to bed at night.

This is one of the most famous haunted houses in New York and surely, the bloodiest one you’ll ever see. The production behind it all is surreal and will get your bones shaking!

Take a look at the video below and let’s see if you’ll have the courage to enter it.

Good luck!

This is another party that sells out super quickly, so be sure to guarantee your ticket asap, if you’d like to attend it.

This year, the name of the party is “Cabaret de L’Enfer: Heaven & Hell Halloween Ball”. As they explain: “This year’s legendary Halloween stomp sin-spired by the notorious Heaven and Hell nightclubs of 1890s Paris.

Experience supernatural visions of paradise and the underworld at the iconic Capitale, a majestic multi-level, multi-room 19th century vault, to the sordid sounds of angel horns and devil trombones—you are invited!”
