Thankfully, the weather is still amazing and the sun is out! Before it gets really cold, you better suit up and start preparing your closet for this shift. One of the places to go is Pema NYC!

Packing the Summer clothes and bringing out the Winter ones is always an inevitable hassle. So, to make things more fun, use this time to select the ones you won’t use anymore. Then, you can separate them for donation!

With this done, now you can have a bit of fun, and shop for new stuff!

We’ve known Pema NYC, a Brooklyn original, for the longest time and this weekend we passed by their store in Williamsburg.

Founded in 2004, Pema launched as a family business. This was way before tourists discovered how easy it is to get into the neighborhood through the L line,

They offer everything you’ll need from hats, to great shoes – we loved the boots!, to dresses, denim, jewelry, scarves, gloves, bags, and even the cutest Happy Socks filling an entire wall!

“Our personal, friendly atmosphere is the perfect place to find a great deal. We sell party or casual dresses, jeans, tees, loads of jewelry, leather bags and wallets, heels and boots, hats and scarves and so on.

Come check it out yourself. And, find out why we are still going strong, even with Whole Foods and Apple in sight of our door.”

Plus, keep an eye for the items on sale which always great too!

And still, their website is always updated with their latest pieces, so you might want to keep your eyes opened.

Enjoy your shopping!

Let us know if you’re interested in experiencing our exclusive Personal Shopping & Styling services with the best New York City experts!

While in the neighborhood, you might want to try a few spots for lunch like Dziupla, Zizi Limona, Nora Thai. Also, grab one of the best Chai Lattes at Woops Bakeshop.

If you plan to stay up late, pass by Freehold to see what party they are throwing. Explore and uncover other Brooklyn original spots hidden throughout the streets!

Goorin Bros hat shop has a fantastic story!

It all started way back in 1895, with Cassel Goorin. He created custom-made hats off his horse cart in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“A hat allows you to make a statement without saying a word” – Ben Goorin

Furthermore, several years later, in 1921, Cassel taught his two sons, Alfred and Ted, the art and business of his trade. When Alfred and Ted took over Cassel’s business, it became the Goorin Brothers.

Alfred and Ted knew about their father’s passion for outdoor activities and decided, in 1948, to create the Grenadier Catalog. In other words, it was a sporting line designed to accommodate the hunter, fisherman and camper alike.

In 1949, Alfred moved to San Francisco, expanding their business and their awareness. They also added hat-related accessories to their successful line of headwear. Unique items like gloves and mittens, socks, and other sportswear were created.

The successful story passed on through generations of the Goorin family. In 1991, Ben Goorin of the 4th generation, observed the cultural movement of the 90’s. He knew that the Goorin archives contained the hats that would make a great comeback.

Eventually, in 2012 Goorin Bros focused on bringing a personal level of genuine interaction back – hat shops and customers.

They wanted to make hat wearing relevant again.

Now, imagine a world with beautifully crafted hats once again reigning the street scene. How cool would that be!? Well, on our end, we’re huge supporters!

Plus, sometimes you can be lucky enough to see a rare solo set in their Williamsburg store!

Note! They to have hats for women too, so girls, go there have fun! If you have kinds, they have the trendiest options too.

In addition, if you just love head adornments and you’re, let’s stay, the “bold” type-a-gal, you might want to check out Dora Marra. She has one of the best stores in New York.

9 Best Speakeasies In New York City

Nightlife Bars Apotheke Glamour Magazine Brazil

We contribute with New York content for Glamour Brazil. This post was about 9 best speakeasies in New York City that are secret spots!

Here is the Portuguese version and below, the English version:

In the US, Prohibition Era happened between the years of 1920 through 1933. During these years, the American Constitution banned the sale and manufacture of alcoholic beverages in the entire country! It did not take long for the black market liquor traffic to appear and quickly grow.

One of the most famous traffickers this time was the famous Al Capone! Consequently, bars hidden deep inside restaurants or in the basements of bakeries, spread across the country. These places were called “Speakeasy” and served illegal alcohol for customers!

In New York there are still several speakeasies around the city, but obviously today are all legal. Anyway, it’s always a thrill to go into one of these bars, as they remain hidden behind small doors or in secret rooms, in the most unlikely places!

We reveal 9 best speakeasies in New York City at some of the most sought after addresses:

55 Bar

Nightlife Bars 55 Bar Glamour Magazine Brazil

Located in the Greenwich Village, 55 Bar has wonderful jazz concerts, funk and blues nights, seven days a week!

It is one of the bars with the best vibe, incredible music, a more intimate place, where bands interact with the public, which in turn is laid back, the decor is super cool … and the best: zero tourists!

Surely a perfect place for those who want to feel like a real New Yorker!

Take a look at their website to see what is their upcoming events and bands playing. If you live in New York, be sure go to there too!

Please Don’t Tell

After entering a small hot dog restaurant called Crif Dog, in the East Village, you will see an old phone booth to your left. This cabin is actually the entrance to the speakeasy called Please Don’t Tell (great name, by the way!).

As you pick up the phone, you inform the hostess the number of people with you and she will open the door!

No doubt it will be a grand entrance! The place is gorgeous, with a full bar and it can get pretty packed!

Nonetheless, you will have a great time!

Apothéke

Nightlife Bars Apotheke Glamour Magazine Brazil

Inside an old opium den located in the famous, hidden Doyers Street, in the heart of Chinatown, an Austrian named Albert Trummer, founded Apothéke.

Now, imagine a place where a mad scientist meets a mixologist in a place full of opium! It is strange!

This speakeasy is one of the most stylish in the city, with a bar offering more than 250 drinks and 500 bottles of liquor brought in from different parts of the world.

Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays they have live music, but the coolest day is Wednesday with the house’s jazz band! Bewere of their dress code after 9pm – Elegant Sophisticated Attire – and you should be fine!

Location: 9 Doyers Street #1

Bathtub Gin

Nightlife Bars Apotheke Glamour Magazine Brazil Negin Blogger

Hidden deep in a cafe in Chelsea, Bathtub Gin has a very good menu and an interesting beverage menu with elaborate cocktails!

The name of the bar is in homage to the homemade Gin, who during the years of Prohibition in the United States, was very popular. Bathtub Gin portrays the poor quality of the drink that was available during that time in the country.

The suggestion is to try to make a reservation to ensure that you’ll be able to get it, since it can be tough at the door. You can still be lucky enough to attend one of the burlesque shows that take place at night!

Location: 132 Ninth Avenue

A Hidden Beach In Williamsburg Right Off The East River

Curiosities City Secrets Williamsburg Hidden Beach by Scouting NY

Brooklyn has many secrets and one of them is: there is a hidden beach in Williamsburg, right off the East River!

Can you actually imagine a hidden beach in Williamsburg, located right off the East River?

Well, one of the most trendy neighborhoods in the moment is called Williamsburg. It’s the home of many of the coolest hot spots from bars, restaurants, nightclubs, countless stores and so much more!

This area is also growing with so many new residences. People are moving from Manhattan, into Brooklyn in a blink of an eye.

One of the tiny beaches in the neighborhood, that is very well-know to locals and visitors is the one inside the Brooklyn Inlet Park.

This is the area where the famous Smorgasburg open-air food market happens every Saturday. It’s very small, but it’s one of the highlights, specially due to the breathtaking view of Manhattan’s skyline. The spot is certainly on the top of the list for those that are looking for an Instagram-worthy shot!

But, if you walk south a few minutes, and pass behind a few buildings on Kent Avenue, you’ll find another tiny, and forgotten beach. There, you’ll see a very old and rusty ladder that takes you down to a bunch of rocks.

This, leads you up to this special and tiny beach, with another a-m-a-z-i-n-g view of New York’s skyline and the Williamsburg Bridge!

Surely, no tourists there!

The cool information is that this was the former site of the Brooklyn Ferry Company’s Williamsburg Branch during the second half of the 1800’s. Later, it was discontinued in the beginning of the 1900’s.

Now, we’ve all heard about the shutting down of the L line that connects Manhattan to Brooklyn, in 2019. With this, the city is now arranging alternative transportation methods, and there will certainly be an increase in ferry services. Who knows they don’t reactivate this spot, right?

So, before this happens, be sure to go check out this hidden beach in Williamsburg. Just, be sure not to hurt yourself. Plus, we’re not sure how “legal” and safe it is…So, go at our own risk.

If you are interested in exploring Williamsburg, contact our experts to put together a customized tour or experience for you and your friends & family. For Corporate experiences, let our experts assist you too. We’ve worked with several corporate and private groups of all sizes for food, art, shopping and historical tours.

Brooklyn Brewery makes beer. Good beer.” Yup, as they already say, their beer is pretty good, hence the success of their tastings, specially during the weekends.

This spot located, in Williamsburg, is not so much a “behind the scenes” place anymore, since the word got out and now they attract big crowds. But, it’s surely still worth writing about!

“Not only does it taste good and make your meal better but we like to think that since its founding in 1988, Brooklyn Brewery has brewed flavorful beers that enrich the life, tradition and culture of the communities it serves.”

As we know, in the beginning of the 19th century, New York became home to hundreds of immigrants. Many came from countries like Ireland and Germany – that are well know for their beer-culture. So, these immigrants brought their knowledge of brewing to Brooklyn, that soon became a hub for fantastic beer!

We’ve all heard about the Prohibition Era that made countless alcoholic-driven businesses collapse, and in the beer industry, it wasn’t different.

Years later, Steve Hindy and Tom Potter joined forced to bring Brooklyn Brewery to life. They brought on board the graphic designer, Milton Glaser, that gave life to the brand.

Its award-winning roster of year-round, seasonal and specialty beers have gained the Brewery notoriety as one of the top craft beer producers in the world.

See below the hours, but it’s basically a first come, first serve line, so you may bump into a reasonable line over the weekends.

After the tour and the tasting, you might want to check out a few places in Greenpoint, just a few blocks North.

We’ve created a fantastic Self-Guided Tour of the neighborhood, so download here and have fun! Oh! This tour can be split into multiple days, so don’t get overwhelmed with the number of places we refer!

If you want help to organize a visit/tour, contact our experts through our Concierge Services. We’ve also done tours with corporate groups that have tremendously enjoyed the experience, so see our Corporate Services for more information.
