Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann by P_Nali

New York-based Tech Entrepreneur, Graham Mann, shared with us his 7 top tips in New York! Check out where the cool tech crowd hangs out!

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann by P_Nali

Graham Mann is cofounder of Lean Systems, a logistics startup with offices in New York and Montreal, a graduate of Techstars NYC, and recipient of the 2017 Startup Canada Young Entrepreneur award. He grew up in Nova Scotia, Canada, and did his undergrad degree in engineering at McGill University in Montreal.

He still leads the non-profit organization he founded, called Sail All, which provides sailing opportunities for youth in his home province of Nova Scotia, and mentors new entrepreneurs whenever he can, particularly for Founder Institute Montreal and Startup Weekend.

In his spare time you can usually find him on or near the water, sailing, windsurfing, or attempting surfing and kiteboarding, or out taking photos.

He writes regularly on his blog, and just launched a podcast called Starting Stories, where he interviews entrepreneurs, creatives, and more to talk about how they got started, and the habits and tools that led to their success.

Take a look at his 7 top tips in New York:

For Pizza: Lucali

“I discovered Lucali through a cousin living nearby, and it’s known to locals for good reason: their pizza is delicious. They only serve pizza and calzones, and have different ingredients every day. It’s also BYOB – go to Henry Street Wine down the street for some super-friendly advice on which wines to get. Go early as there’s no reservations, and it’s cash only.”

Their first and only location in New York is Carroll Gardens, in Brooklyn. The restaurant is specialized in pizzas and calzones, but also offers appetizer salads and fresh sides. Their thin-crusted pizzas and home-made sauces are loved not only by their neighbors, but by guests that come from all over NYC. Hence, the house is always full, as Graham mentioned above.

If you’re into craft draft and bottled beers, they have a good selection, as well as a wine menu with low production Italian wines.

Who’s the mind behind this all? The pizzaiolo Mark Iacono and he also has a location in Miami.

Hours:
Monday – Thursday: 5pm – 12am
Friday – Sunday: 1pm – 12am

Location: 575 Henry Street

For Cocktails: Brooklyn Social Bar

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann Brooklyn Social Club

“After pizza and wine at Lucali, you can stop by Brooklyn Social Bar on your way back to the subway. The atmosphere is great, cocktails are delicious, and the bartenders are super friendly. Go on an off-night and get to know the bartenders.”

Located in Carroll Gardens, this spot was the former Society Riposto, a private member’s Sicilian Club. This group started back in the early 1900’s, and only in 1967 they actually rented out this spot.

They had private gatherings and parties led by Isidoro Parisi and his group of Italian friends.

After the memberships slowly dissolving throughout the years, 3 30-year old Brooklyn residents decided to purchase and renovate the place.

Many of the decorations are still the original ones with amazing, vintage pictures and ornaments, allowing it to keep its original vibe.

It’s surely a place that will take you back to the past, as in you entered another place on Earth.

Hours:
Sunday – Thursday: 5pm – 2am
Friday – Saturday: 5pm – 4am

Location: 335 Smith Street

For Those Interested In Travel: Voyager HQ

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann Voyager HQ

“For anyone interested in, working in, or looking for a job in travel, you should be hanging out at Voyager HQ. It’s where we work in New York, the staff are super friendly, and they hold lots of great events. If you’re interested in travel, you should be there.”

We have to agree! We love everything that VoyagerHQ does and we are there quite often!

The place is great and the crowd is perfect for networking. They say they are “A Club for Travel Innovators”, so if this at all calls your attention, you should pass by.

In addition, they host some pretty cool events from breakfasts with industry professionals, to pitch nights with fantastic start-ups urging to change the world!

To Escape the City (sort of): Roosevelt Island

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann Roosevelt Island Mc Gutty

“One of my college roommates grew up here, and I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Roosevelt Island. It’s right next to Manhattan, yet you’d never know it when you’re there, given how peaceful and quiet it is. Take the tram or subway there, go for a run, grab a coffee, or check out the beautiful new Cornell Tech campus.”

Yup, Roosevelt Island is a “life apart”, even though it’s nestled in the middle of the East River.

It’s a great place to go explore during the weekends!

If you have to pick a way to get there, we do recommend the tram. The journey will start with a spectacular view of Manhattan Island, Queens and the East River.

You’ll most certainly capture breathtaking Instagrammable shots!

The island has only one main street, called Main Street, ha, and a few additional side roads! But you can always walk towards the water through the path – that’s there the best views are.

If you’re the adventurous type, be sure to explore the Smallpox Hospital, also known as the Renwick Smallpox Hospital, in the Southern tip of the island.

Place to Take a Canadian: New York Islanders game

Curiosities Insider Interviews Graham Mann New York Islanders Hockey

“For Canadians, there’s no better way to spend an evening than at a hockey game, but given how popular it is in Canada, you’re lucky to get seats for a reasonable price. Take them to an Islanders game and they’ll love it, and for bonus points take them when they’re playing their favorite team.”

Canadians do love Hockey, but his is literally an activity for anyone that enjoys sports.

Moreover, if you or your friends have never been to a hockey game, we have to agreed you HAVE TO go to one.

Live hockey is definitely a thrilling experience and it’ll be a night of fun!

“I got more of a taste for scotch after spending two weeks traveling Scotland last spring, and Caledonia Bar has the best selection I’ve found in New York. The atmosphere is as good as the whisky selection, and it’s a great place to take a date.”

Caledonia Bar has two locations in Manhattan. One is in the Upper East Side and the other at the Upper West Side, of Manhattan.

They have a great drink list, a few food options that vary a bit in each location and, a fantastic list of House Rules!

Wanna know some of them?

  • Five percent off for Tinder dates, you need to prove it by showing us your initial awkward messages
  • No credit card minimum, but if you keep swiping your card all night you are wasting paper, killing trees and in the long run killing all of humanity you selfish bastard. Start a Tab!
  • Gentlemen, this is a lady friendly bar, if it’s clear that they are not interested in you then stop talking to them. Obviously this rule does not apply to me.

Ha! So fun! Anyway, enjoy your scotch night out!

“I generally try to avoid shopping in person as much as possible, but Everlane makes the experience enjoyable. I love that their simple, classic lines don’t overwhelm you with choice, and their commitment to ethical factories and transparent pricing make them a brand you can get behind. They currently only have two brick-and-mortar locations, and one is in New York.”

Located in the super cool neighborhood of Nolita, in Manhattan, Everlane believes in “Exceptional quality.
Ethical factories. Radical Transparency.” Totally up our alley!

Plus, their collections and products are timeless pieces that will be part of your wardrobe for a long time. How? Well, they source the finest materials and aren’t too focused on trends.

Oh! And still, they let the customer know exactly the true cost of materials, labor, transportation, taxes, etc…for the item they are purchasing. We love it!

They offer a complete line of products for men and women that believe, like them, that “we can all make a difference”.

Yup! They are known for their delicious food, coffee and cocktails. The front area of the restaurant – Trademark Grind – is a coffee shop with a great selection of pastries and coffees. Walking towards the back area, you’ll find Trademark Taste serving new American comfort food.

UNFORTUNATELY THIS RESTAURANT IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED!

“Fry Guys is a super cool retro looking French fry spot in the East Village with vinyl records all around the floors, walls, and ceiling. There’s even disco balls hanging from the ceilings. If you come here get the Drunk Guy, its fries are loaded with guacamole, bacon and cheese.”

These guys are really experts when the subject is “fries”. Their food is gluten-free fries and made from delicious Idaho Russet potatoes. How do they make it? They hand-cut everything, season it and perfectly fry it to get that crunchy texture.

The décor of the place is also fantastic and it’s vintage kinda look will take you back decades. It’s most certainly a nostalgic feeling.

This is the place to splurge and forget your diet! Forget about calories and just be happy! Ha! After all, as they say ‘Every day is FryDay!’.

“Gaijin is the only place in Astoria that I know of with a legit omakase sushi menu. I love the whole experience of sitting at the counter, interacting with the Chef, and being told the preferred way of eating the sushi is with my hands like in Japan. I can’t think of any other restaurants like this in Astoria, but in the city I definitely can.”

Chef Mark, a Chicago-native, is the artist behind it all. His outstanding culinary career gave him enough experience to open Gaijin – the result of his take on modern Japanese food.

Moreover, he blends his traditional Japanese cooking technique with a personal touch and inspiration. It’s known that his signature nigrizushi toppings are outstanding!

Nigirizushi (“hand-pressed sushi”) consists of an oblong mound of sushi rice that the chef presses between the palms of the hands to form an oval-shaped ball, and a topping (the neta) draped over the ball.” ~ Wikipedia

Gaijin has been rebranded to Koyo.

” The restaurant was originally opened as Gaijin which was a very popular local establishment that offers Omakase dining and robata grill a la carte menu fares. In the summer of August 2018, the team of Gaijin decided to refine what they do best, a modern omakase establishment and undergone a full update along with a new brand, Koyo.

Koyo means “Autumnal Foliage” which refers to the changing of Japanese maple tree leaves which signals the change of a seasonal. Koyo has a strong focus on seasonality and uses ingredients at its peak during that season to create a Kaiseki inspired multi-sensory dining experience.”

“A speakeasy in Astoria, called The Last Word, serves really good cocktails and is hidden behind a hardware store. I know in Astoria it’s well known, but I’m not sure about the general public.”

So, if you enjoy oysters paired with a good cocktail, this is the place for you! They still have a great menu with beer, wine and a few bites to nibble on.

They explain that: “Our name comes from the gin-based prohibition-era cocktail called, The Last Word.”

And still, if you enjoy Soul, Rhythm and Blues, they have it live, every Thursday night. It’s definitely a place to got more than once! You’ll love it!

Shuraku

Curiosities Insider Interviews Cheryl Wat Shuraku NYC Fried Lotus Root

“Of course I have to mention my boyfriend’s restaurant on here. I’d be a terrible girlfriend if I didn’t, I’m also a bit biased, but read his Yelp reviews if you don’t believe me! Shuraku is a hidden Japanese Grilling restaurant without a sign on the building. You would only know it exists if you walk up close to the building and see a menu hanging from the window. This is the only place that I know of in NY that serves gyu-katsu (deep fried breaded steak).”

We love Shuraku too and we’ve recently visited and written about them.

They are certainly a new place to have in your To-Go places in New York, especially if you’re into high-end Japanese spots with unique tasting menus!

Jason Naylor’s murals

Curiosities Insider Interviews Cheryl Wat Jason Naylor Murals
Jason Naylor, in action!

“The murals all around the city by Jason Naylor. Offhand, I can only think of the one on 60th and 2nd Ave and the one on 16th and 6th Ave. I’m amazed by his graffiti work. The colors he uses are so vibrant. It’s so distinct that you don’t even need to see that it’s his work, you’ll just know.”

Jason is not only an artist, but he’s also a designer, writer and creative director. In addition, his colorful art works certainly make the city look even more beautiful and the quotes are very inspiring!

He was born in Salt Lake City, but fell in love the NY at an early age. His works can be seen in the fashion industry, as well as magazine, footwear and even in tattoos. We personally love the Statue of Liberty in his left arm!

Tiny’s, as the frequent crowd calls it, has a unique décor with vintage wall papers, tin ceilings, brick walls and other cool details. Most of the place was kept intact and preserved its historical characteristics and original materials. We love this!

The dining room has a cozy fireplace, perfect for the winter and this unusual Spring start…. The place offers an American cuisine menu with Southern and French influences.

Founded by Ana, Matt and Jack Abramcyk, and with the amazing cuisine by the fantastic Executive Chef Paul Warthen, it’s a place to enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. The menu? Expect a mixture of Modern American cuisine with Southern and French influences.

Also, to go for a simple glass of wine to end your day in grand style!

For dinner, you can try:

  • Burrata with Baby Arugula, Proscuitto, Rose Agridulce
  • Kale Salad with Apples, Carrots, Celery, Gouda Walnuts, Maple Mustard Vinaigrette
  • Seared Duck Breast with Plum Agrodolce, Roasted Turnips, Shallots
  • Atlantic Salmon with Braised Fennel, Endive, Chicory, Beluga Lentils, Leek Vinaigrette
  • Pepper Crusted Hanger Steak with Crispy Red Bliss Potatoes, Onion Confit Crème Fraîche, Vin Cotto
  • Dessert: the Kit Kat – Dark Chocolate Ganache, Peanut Butter Crunch, Raspberry Coulis

The cocktails, beer and wine options are great too.

It’s definitely a place that you’ll feel welcome and, as the owners anticipated, it’s a place everyone will eventually get to know each other.

Have fun at Tiny’s and The Bar Upstairs in TriBeCa, this super insider spot!

For great coffee around the neighborhood, go to the Laughing Man Coffee & Tea. If you enjoy high end places with a fashion crowd, head to Paul’s Cocktail Lounge. UNFORTUNATELY THIS BAR IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED!

There are some very well-known venues, but the behind the scenes, secret ones are surely our preference, as you know!

The Standing Room is actually the “little sister” to The Stand Comedy Club in Gramercy – that has been named by the NY Magazine, the “Best Comedy Club”.

The Standing Room is an intimate speakeasy style cocktail bar that has definitely called our attention for numerous reasons. After going there once, for a night that we weren’t really sure what to expect, we became totally obsessed with the place.

As you enter a small door (we loved it already!), you’ll find a beautiful long wooden full bar. Lights are very dim, music is pretty good, sitting area is scarce with only a few stools around the bar, but it’s actually just perfect. The bartenders are all pretty stylish and very friendly folks that’ll help you out figuring out the best drink for you.

The house is known for offering Long Island City’s premier cocktail experience, and their signature cocktails are surely worth trying! The recipes were created by the award winning Mixologists, Joji Watanabe.

One of the cocktails we always order is the “Flower” made with dry gin, lavender, elderflower and cranberry. The best? It’s served inside a super cool lightbulb (picture on image gallery)!

We’ve also tried other cocktails like the “Smoke”, made with bourbon, ancho chile, cyan and house bitters. “Truffle” is quite interesting, mixing bison grass vodka, truffle honey, muscat and grapefruit.

The list is endless, so you’ll definitely have a great time trying them all! Prices range from $11 – $13, which is pretty good too!

They don’t really serve food, except for a few bites like:

  • Cheese Board – A selection of 3 cheeses sourced from beecher’s handmade cheeses
  • Charcuterie Board – A selection of 3 cheeses sourced from beecher’s handmade cheeses accompanied by a pairing 3 artisan cured meats
  • Beef / Pork Jerky – House cured sweet pork and beef jerky
  • Steamed Cheeburger – Served on egg challah roll with vermont sharp chedder

Now! Let’s talk about the Comedy Nights! To start, it’s free!

So, what to expect from the comedians? Well, they are surely some of the best up and coming stand-up comedians in Queens, so it’s practically impossible to go wrong. Their line up is always fantastic and they usually have around 4 different performances at 2 different times – 8pm and 10pm.

Even if you decide to just hang around the see the 2nd performance, you’ll definitely see the beauty of how improve can change the course of their show.

We are sure you’ll have one of the best nights, so just grab your drink and enjoy!

Hours:
Monday – Thursday: 5pm – 9pm
Friday – Sunday: 5pm – 11pm

Donna: A refined spot for the Dirty Kids in Brooklyn

Located just south of the Williamsburg Bridge, Donna was founded in 2012 by Leif Huckman and designed by the brothers Evan and Oliver Haslegrave. As the owner themselves say, this is for the dirty kids in Brooklyn.

Huckman described his dream of Donna, to the Gothamist by saying:

“I felt there was a lack of late-night places on the Southside to grab a bite to eat and drink. I wanted to create a place for ‘dirty kids.’ I love places with a dilapidated elegance, that look like they’ve been lived in, that aren’t too pristine.”

By “dirty kids”, he meant that there are tons of cool people that enjoy really good stuff, but aren’t into dressing up that much. We definitely can relate! Plus, many of our reading love a cool spot, but this a laid back vibe.

The building chosen to house the place, dates back to 1850. Inside is definitely something! A domed ceiling, an ArtDeco bar that is gorgeous, reclaimed-pine floors, a unique lightning project, wooden tables and chairs! Ah…and the vintage mood. Love it!

The cuisine is Central American style where you’ll find fantastic tacos. Most of the menus on the item are gluten-free!

We recommend, for vegetarians, the Roasted Root Veg with beets, yams, carrots, guacamole, pico de gallo and cilantro. For the meat eaters, the Slow-Roasted Pork with salsa verde, pickled cabbage, pickled onion, cotija, chicharron and tajin.

They still have several small dishes to share, so you might want to order a few, to taste them all. We like the ceviche and the guacamole.

Don’t skip dessert! Their Churros with cinnamon, sugar and salted chipotle honey are worth every calorie. They also serve Van Leuween Ice Cream with vegan flavors.

Their cocktail list is great with interesting options for all taste buds. They still have wine, beer, draft and other options, so you’ll find your perfect match.

As they say: “Donna is the mini-vacation you can take any day of the week.

It’s a great spot to host private events and even corporate gatherings. The place is relatively big, so don’t worry about “over-inviting” people. You’ll be fine!

There are other great spots around that you might be interested. Sunday in Brooklyn for one of the coolest weekend brunches. For a afternoon lunch, coffee or an exciting night out, go to Freehold. And last, if you’re a massive meat eater, Peter Luger Steakhouse is a place you might want to visit.

Antonia Greco: A Love Guru Uncovers NYC’s Dating Scene

Curiosities Insider Interviews Antonia Greco NYC Dating Expert

Lets talk about Dating in New York City?! Everyone knows about the “rumors” about NYC’s dating scene and how different it is from the rest of the world! Antonia Greco tell us about the best spots to hang out, if you’re single!

Curiosities Insider Interviews Antonia Greco NYC Dating Expert
Photo Credit: Courtesy of Gary He

If you’ve just moved to this beautiful, tireless city, or if you’ve been in New York City long enough, you will notice two topics that will always (and we mean, always!) come up during dinners or bar conversations:

  1. RENT! It’s amazing how people are eager to know how much you pay for rent and all the amenities you have in your building to justify the high prices. Note: It does not matter if they just met you, they WILL boldly ask…
  2. DATING! The “Dating Scene” in New York is, without a doubt, unique and different from anywhere else on this planet! It’s a battle to figure out all the do’s and don’ts, right? So, after you do, and everything seams to be flowing well with your beau…BOOM! The guy dumps you…

With the Dating topic in mind, our Contributor Ari Crane interviewed Antonia Greco from Loved Tapped. She is a NYC-based Dating and Relationship Expert. She is also the co-author of “Who Lies More, Men or Women? 6 Ways to Succeed in Dating, Relationships, and Life”.

Over the past eight years, Antonia’s worked one-on-one with clients of all ages to help them meet partners, date successfully, and has had a helping hand in several marriages.

In her spare time, she likes to run, fuss over cute dogs, play piano and bake pies.

“A question I often get asked by singles is ‘Where can I go to meet people?’ — Simply put, you can meet people anywhere you go. It’s just a matter of having the guts to open the dialogue and/or be approachable. That said, it’s beneficial to pick places that reflect something about your lifestyle, your passions, or something new you’d like to try.”

Here are Antonia’s top picks in the City! Do check them out and, who knows, maybe you’ll find your partner in crime, for life.

“If working out and being healthy are your thing, then get ready to be excited by Hu Kitchen. Everything is delicious and wholesome sans ingredients that you can’t pronounce. And the clientele, well, they’re exceptionally good looking, in shape, and healthy. Not to mention, the layout of the tables is conducive to striking up a conversation very effortlessly. Rotate this place into your weekly lunch or dinner schedule and be sure to treat yourself to the house-made Almond Butter truffles!”

Not only all the ingredients are fantastic and super healthy, but they also produce their own delicious chocolate bars.

They have a huge list of “What they don’t have”, but there are just a few, so you get the vibe: NO Conventional Sweeteners, NO Gluten, NO Soy, NO GMO Corn, NO Commercial Lecithins, NO Preservatives…

B-Cup

Curiosities Insider Interviews Antonia Greco B-Cup

“Whether you’re “working remotely” or in the mood for a chill place to enjoy some coffee, look no further than B-Cup. This hip little haunt is tucked away in Alphabet City and is the “office” for many singles. With free, reliable wi-fi and iced coffees served in carafes, this friendly space is a mix of funky and accommodating. Bonus: Most people come here alone so it’s the perfect place to table share during the busier hours!”

Alphabet City is part of what most people know as the East Village. The area is very residential, but it is the home of several bars, cocktail spots and super cool restaurants. The area is filled with life and great spots to uncover.

Their park is called Tompkins Square Park. You might recall it from the post we wrote about a Feeding Program our Founder coordinates, feeding 200 homeless every week!

The area has also a significant Puerto Rican community, that definitely brings an uplifting vibe. After all, we know how cheerful Puerto Ricans are, right!?

Cooper Hewitt

Curiosities Insider Interviews Antonia Greco Cooper Hewitt

“If you find museums to be boring, then maybe Cooper Hewitt will change your mind. The interactive environment – especially in the Immersion Room – is the perfect place to strike up conversation with others, all while interacting with art and design. When you’re done, grab a coffee from the cafe and head to the garden!”

The museum was founded in 1897 and was named “Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum”.

It’s dedicated exclusively on historical and contemporary design, making it the only museum in the US with this focus.

Therefore, it has “more than 210,000 design objects spanning 30 centuries.

From ancient textiles and works on paper to icons of modern design and cutting-edge technologies, Cooper Hewitt’s collection serves as inspiration for creative work of all kinds and tells the story of design’s paramount importance in improving our world.”

Niketown Running Club

Curiosities Insider Interviews Antonia Greco Nike+ Running Club

“Running is a great way to unwind all while staying healthy and I love the Nike Run Club! Regardless of your pace or athletic level, this is a good place to meet others – especially for those that are tired of the bar scene. Don’t be discouraged if the guy to girl ratio is not in your favor. One thing singles tend to forget is that ANY person you meet may have a single friend, relative or coworker that would be a fit for you!”

The Nike Run Club it not only for professional runners, but also for the amateur and aspiring runner!

The Marlton is a luxury boutique hotel with small, but nevertheless incredibly decorated rooms, but the news here is the dining experience and the cool people the cocktail bar invites after hours.

The Margaux restaurant serves dishes with very interesting flavors. Influences come from cultures and cuisines of the southern and eastern Mediterranean, France and California.

Their menu varies seasonally, so ingredients can change according the local availability. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, year round.

After dinner, walk to their cocktail bar, open daily from 7pm – 2pm. You will probably find some pretty interesting and stylish people hanging stopping by!

Curious about the rooms? As they explain:

“All Guest rooms feature herringbone wood floors, brass fixtures, crown moldings, and private marble bathrooms. Each room benefits from bath amenities by Côté Bastide, luxurious custom linens, plush towels and bathrobes, LED TVs, closet or armoire, complimentary wi-fi, fully stocked mini bars and in-room safes.”

If you are in the city for a few days, we recommend a couple places to visit in the neighborhood.

For a super trendy nightlife with drinks, cocktails, lots of fun and overflowing with a gorgeous crowd, visit The Happiest Hour. Want more nightlife? Wilfie & Nell is a great bar to hang out this friends or to meet new people, since it’s not so big.

We love vegan food and if we hadn’t said it was vegan,  you’d probably never guess, so try By Chloe. Check out the upcoming events at Webster Hall – this place was owned by the one and only Al Capone during the Prohibition Era.

Oh! And you’re less than 2 blocks away from the gorgeous lively Washington Square Park, so do go take some pictures there! It’s been the set of countless movies, like the famous August Rush!

Yup! A true hot spot!

We had passed by it countless times, and at every new day, we became more and more curious about the place. The crowd was always gorgeous, the food looked delicious and the low-key vibe was surely our style.

Voilá! The weather is getting better so we ventured to Willyb (how our Founder, Fê Paronetto, kindly calls Williamsburg), to visit The Bedford.

With the beautiful sun out, we decided to sit outside, of course! This restaurant a perfect place for a lunch, brunch or dinner, specially now during the Summer time!

Take a look at what we ate:

  • Avocado Toast with charred sourdough, avocado, lime & sea salt
  • Crispy Brussels Sprouts with dashi soy, toasted sesame oil
  • Split Pea soup was delicious
  • Salad with cherry tomatoes, onions and romaine

All very, very tasty!

If you go there at night, they have a full bar. So, sit at the bar area (that is always the best spot), and try their hand crafted cocktails! Plus, it’s beautiful and the super rustic décor is just the way we like it and the way a trendy gastro pub should be.

We enjoyed it so much that we decided to feature them on our “Drinks and Food Crawl in Brooklyn with Eat and Be Full” YouTube video! We talk about one of the main specialties: the mac’n’cheese burger!

The neighborhood is great and there are countless spots to visit, bars to hop, corners with the best view of Manhattan, unique local stores to shop and so much more!

See how our Concierge Services and Corporate Services can help you and your company create memorable experiences.

In other words: meet interesting people, work is welcome with free wifi and play during the day or after work hours, when they start bringing the music’s volume up! That’s what Freehold in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is all about!

The space is literally amazing, and from the outside you’d never imagine it! It’s a mixture of coffeeshop, bar, restaurant with a great courtyard.

It has natural light all over the place, which is definitely one of the highlights here. There is nothing better that seeing the light of day during a fun lunch, and specially during your work hours!

The menu is very diverse, ranging from bagels & pastries, to breakfast specials, salads, snacks, sandwiches and desserts. I’m vegetarian and usually eat their salads (we love the Farro Salad), or the sandwiches. One of the waitresses is also vegetarian and knows me, so they are also good and trying to improvise a sandwich for you! We love it!

There are numerous drink options too like cocktails, house classics, shooters, beer, wine, liquor, and obviously tea and different types of coffee! Ah! And for happy hour, drinks are 50% off!

It’s opened for everyone to just walk in, sit, work, have fun, meet young, interesting people, curious minds and have great food.

Wifi is free and you have energy plugs all around, so it’s perfect for people that come in and work. It’s certainly a freelance friendly place!

Oh, and the “play” happens after work hours. The place gets quite full, loud music and great people! No tourists! At night hours, things really get exciting, music is loud, lights are dimmed and people are dancing and having so much fun!

I’m sure you will have a great time there, and maybe, even bump into me!  Come say “Hi” and Meet, Work, Play at Freehold.

What’s close by?

You can go grab a cocktail or dinner at Sunday in Brooklyn, then head to Little Choc Apothecary for a to-die-for vegan crepe (the best one in town). On your free time, roam around the neighborhood exploring these vintage stores that sell brands like Missoni, Chloé, Oscar de la Renta and Stella McCartney!
