Beco Bar: Where The Cool Brazilian Crowd Hangs In Brooklyn

Dining Beco Bar Restaurant Henrique

We know that New York has it all when it comes to food! Beco Bar, the coolest Brazilian place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is one of our to-go spots year round!

Actually, we’re at Beco all the time! Some people say they are located in Williamsburg, while others say it’s already Greenpoint. Regardless of the right answer, this is truly a local’s pick!

We’ve been there early for breakfast, during their busy lunch hours, for an afternoon coffee, then for happy hour that lead to dinner and also for their late nights with live music or DJs!

Yup, we are totally addicted to them!

Their team is great and always smiling, with the best energy possible! Henrique, Ale, Anita, Andressa, Daiane, Steph, Luis…just to name a few! Plus, the guys in the kitchen really create miracle dishes from their “restricted space”, since it’s is pretty small.

It’s an intimate place (Just like we like it!), but they do have a few table outside when the sun is out. They do have the tables out even during colder times of the year, if you’re the hot blooded type.

The music is obviously very good Brazilian and Latin tunes and everyone there has a sincere happiness vibe that is surely contagious! Very Brazilian, of course!

For brunch, we had the eggs florentine that are to die for. We also tried the famous rabanada: french toast made w/baguette, cinnamon & sugar, mixed berries, & maple syrup, served w/choice of bacon, linguiça or turkey bacon. We asked for a vegetarian version that was immediately adapted.

For lunch or dinner, one of our favorite picks is a very traditional Brazilian dish called P.F. (a.k.a. Prato Feito). You can order the ingredients you want like: white rice, an extraordinary side of beans – our Founder Fê Paronetto loves, a Brazilian type of very tasty kale, zucchini, farofa and sunny side up eggs!

To nibble on, you can try their pão de queijo – the famous Brazilian cheese bread – or the coxinha with chicken.

And, for dessert, we never forget the brigadeiro. It’s a type of chocolate truffle ball – a very typical sweet all locals love.

If you enjoy good strong coffee, you’ll surely love their options!

Oh! They have great live bands every Fridays night from 9pm – 11pm, Saturdays they have DJ’s from 4pm – 7pm and Sundays another great lineup of live bands from 5pm – 8pm!

One of the bands we love the most, plays a typical Brazilian music style called Choro de Samba, or Chorinho. It’s the “root” from where Samba came from, it’s mostly instrumental with practically no voice, and it’s called Choro because it’s as if the instruments are crying. Choro, means cry, in Portuguese.

Get ready to immerse into the Brazilian vibe…but be careful, it’s addictive! Beco Bar is cash only, but if you forget you money, they have an ATM inside.

If you want to explore the neighborhood of Greenpoint, take a look at our Greenpoint Self-Guided Tour and have fun!

THIS SPOT IS UNFORTUNATELY PERMANENTLY CLOSED!

We are always looking to find the best new hotspot in New York City to share with you guys! We hosted a huge corporate group of a client we worked with and they loved Kola House. So, we do recommend the experience!

Kola House hosted a great party with a top A-list crowd for their launch. They brought in names like the power duo Hannah Bronfman & Brendan Fallis. Paul Sevigny, Chloe’s brother, was also part of this incredible group of guests.

The place opened in partnership with Pepsi Co. Eric Marx and Lisle Richards of The Metric – a the super well-known and respected hospitality group behind the Gilded Lily, LeGrande, The Wayfarer and other strong names – are also part of this project.

The American cuisine is crafted by Chef Jon Feshan and the cocktail list curated by the renowned mixologist, Alex Ott.

The house also organizes great events related to Art, Fashion and Music. Plus, the are always in search of collaborations and working with emerging artists and musicians.

The Brooklyn Barge: Greenpoint Gem with a Manhattan Skyline View

Nightlife Bars The Brooklyn Barge Sunset Manhattan

With one of the most astounding views of the Manhattan skyline, The Brooklyn Barge is one of our favorite to-go spots. The place is totally off-the-beaten-track, just like we love. Even getting there is an adventure making it one of Greenpoint’s gems.

Even getting there – at night – looks a bit sketchy since you need to walk through a long, dark alley, with huge warehouses on both sides with abandoned old cars. We even found an abandoned yellow cab that reminded us of the movie “The Bone Collector“. We love it!

The Brooklyn Barge is quite big, with huge communal wooden tables that accommodates big parties without a problem.

Drinks are served on a floating deck or barge. If you pay attention, you can slightly feel the rocking of the platform on the water. Don’t worry, you won’t feel sick…

This Greenpoint gem serves a few dishes like:

  • Tacos with different fillings (garlic shrimp/adobo chicken/chipotle pork/grilled fish/marinated skirt steak)
  • One the most amazing fries you will ever eat
  • Guacamole with pickled jalapeño
  • Grilled and chilled corn in a cup (yummy!)
  • Hotdogs
  • Harpooned shrimp
  • A few salad options
  • A couple sandwiches including a veggie burger for vegetarians (like us!)
  • And to finish in great style…churros for dessert!

During the Summer, they offer during the day super cool Kayak and Stand Up Paddle Boarding lessons. It happens from 10am – sunset. How stunning would it be to find yourself on a stand up paddle, while the sun is setting behind Manhattan!?

Sunsets there are a-m-a-z-i-n-g, so you can go there during the day. But, if you’re the type that can continue having fun for hours and hours…and hours, stay there to enjoy their nightlife! Certainly, a Greenpoint gem.

You might think also about celebrating your birthday there. Your friends will surely talk about it for weeks and weeks. They are opened 7 days a week!

Greenpoint is amazing and you might want to explore other 30 fantastic spots in this Self-Guided Tour, curated by us, of course! Try some other spots like Troost or watch this short YouTube video of some of our favorite Greenpoint bars!

“‘Dive’ is an understatement at Arthur’s Tavern: Everything smells like mildew, the toilets never work, and the décor hasn’t been updated since the Reagan presidency. The music, though! A tale talented house band sets the stage with classic R&B hits while you await the big show: Sweet Georgia Brown, a 80-year-old soul singer with pipes like Aretha.”

Founded in 1937, Arthur’s Tavern has some of the best live jazz and blues music. Every night of the week they host ‘live jazz, blues, rhythm & blues, and Dixieland jazz music’ and they don’t ask for a cover charge!

“One of the geniuses behind The Commodore and Pies & Thighs debuted this Mex-American haunt, El Cortez, last summer, conveniently located two blocks from the Morgan Avenue’s L stop. The restaurant’s giant totem pole looks absolutely ridiculous against Bushwick’s post-industrial skyline, and that’s okay. Get the nachos – they’re 100 emoji status and SUPER hot – and pick your poison off a lengthy drink menu. Karaoke kicks off at 10 p.m. on Tuesdays.”

Founded by Stephen Tanner, El Cortez is located in one of the artsy streets in Bushwick. Besides the restaurant, you can find a dance floor and a bar upstairs, if you decide to extend your night.

No cover charged and you do have to be over 21 to get in.

Hours: Daily from 4pm through 4am

“At a first glance Mulberry Street Bar looks like your standard Little Italy bar-slash-pizza kitchen, but something magical happens here on Friday nights. A regular crowd of straight outta Sicily karaoke enthusiasts fills the gingham-covered tables and belt out crooner hits from Dean-o and Old Blue Eyes. Watch out for Sonny – the most incredible karaoke performer you ever did see. The brick oven pizza isn’t too shabby, either.”

Founded in 1908, Mulberry Street Bar is one of the oldest bars in New York City.

It has hosted a few of Hollywood’s favorite movies like: Donnie Brasco, The Sopranos, Law & Order and Contract on Cherry Street with Frank Sinatra.

Décor is practically the same as when it opened, with a few modern twists.

“If being “basic” is a thing, why not embrace it in the most ironic way possible? The Globe NYC, a typical bro bar most nights, is a gem late night on Saturdays. Check your bougie attitude at the door and bring a high-energy squad to dance the night away to terrible Top 40 – because even hipsters can appreciate the occasional Pitbull banger.”

The Globe NYC is an old-school Irish pub, since 1886, with a fireplace featuring Guinness and other drafts, plus pub grub.

They have Burger & Brew for $12 from Mondays – Fridays, until 4pm.

Plus, every Tuesday night from 8pm – 11pm, they have a Live Irish Folk Jam Music!

Oh! Wanna host your party there? They have a new craft bar and event space called The Green Room. Go check it out.

When you arrive at Sisters Brooklyn in Clinton Hill, you’ll see a wooden façade, with a huge clock! Like everyone, you’ll probably try and open the door right below it, but…it won’t work. The entrance is actually the door to it’s left.

It might seam small, when you walk in, but it actually extends way back, so go for it and explore!

They serve delicious, simple New American food with an emphasis on sustainable sourcing and uniquely fresh ingredients and combinations.

You should try their Eggplant caponata, the beet risotto and the crème brûlée for dessert. But, you’ll certainly be back for more, so enjoy their menu.

Sisters is perfect to take your loved one, or to go out for a drink and still, for casual hangout spot with friends.

They have a pretty good cocktails, craft beer and a small, but nicely done wine list that pair perfectly with the dishes they offer.

We have to agree that their cocktails have extremely interesting names like: The Obscene Bird of Night, Never Better and Soft Apology.

At the back room, they have a stage and DJ booth for the music lovers. For the night owls, they are opened daily, until 2am.

Clinton Hill is the neighborhood right next to Fort Greene! It’s an area that has great options for bars and restaurants. We interviewed Tamara Peterson, a Brooklyn-based Influencer, that share all the best spots in the hood! You’ll most certainly enjoy them all. We do!

The Sleepless New York City Nightlife Circuit

Nightlife Bars Top of the Standard Boom Boom Room Guests

Today, our Contributor, Joey Zauzig talks about the sleepless New York City nightlife, the most exciting and exclusive places to go and their particularities! So, if you’re a night owl, you’ll definitely enjoy it!

“Nightlife, especially in New York City, can be like a merry-go-round: super exciting at first and then overly easy to get sick of.

Something to know about the nightlife in NYC is that it takes the perfect mix of lounges, clubs, bars and events. To keep things interesting, the right circuit as I like to call it.

Lets face it, who likes seeing the same ‘desperatos‘ waiting at the door to PHD at 3am, or the stragglers who think LeBain is still “exclusive”, you have to change it up.

The truth is, the clubs in New York City are like the Winter’s in New York. It’s cute for a month, then you’ve suddenly become completely sick of it. It doesn’t matter, whether old or new, the day of the week or time you go are major factors.

Some new places, such as The Blond, and even the elder, such as The Boom Boom Room are musts for the perfect circuit. They are great to ensure you’re not riding the merry go round.

Let’s start with the current, The Blond, located on the 2nd floor of the 11 Howard Hotel in SoHo, had it’s opening just this past weekend and was designed by Anda Andrei and SPACE Copenhagen. The owner is Aby Rosen and the nightlife veterans, part of Aby’s new lounge, Angelo Bianchi & Julio Montego had a spot called Beatrice Inn which was previously one of many and my favorite spots, on any given night.

The Blond gives a Rose Bar feel, but better. Full on glass walls, a spiral staircase, sick art and velvet details make it intimate. It just opened this past weekend. A few of the present guests were: Cuba Gooding Jr., Charlotte Sarkozy, Princess Olympia of Greece, Brian Atwood and Rory Tahari.

But, I see this being one of the new spots in many people’s circuits. It draws in an eclectic chill crowd that won’t be overwhelming to start or end the night. It opens to the public in April.

We have to talk about it, because a lot of people haven’t been, as it is members only – Soho House, located in Meat Packing. Yes, it’s exclusive and yes, it’s a restaurant/hotel, but recently they’ve added Vinyl Room.

Located on the 6th Floor in the old Library. Yes, it’s still members only, unless there is an event going on, then, you still have to be on a list.

This is my favorite if I’m in the mood to dance and throw back a few drinks. Meanwhile, I can also be surrounded by an interesting mix of people, at least until the roof opens in a few weeks!

Next we move on to ACME and, yes, maybe I’m writing about my circuit on certain nights… When it comes to the day of the week rule, ACME plays a big part. Every night of the week is different.

I.E Tuesdays is STRUT which is gay night. Wednesdays tend to be on the slower side. Thursdays which, in my opinion, is the best night for a more chill laid back feel, but always great music.

Then we have Top of the Standard, aka The Boom Boom Room. Most of the time, there is always something going on there, so you either know it or you don’t. Long story short, hard door.

Usually if you don’t know anyone, you’re not getting in. But, the place has an incredibly sick atmosphere and 99.9% of the time, a great crowd.

Now, if you are really looking for a late night and want to keep it going, try Never Never. Which is located right next to the club Up & Down – which is good, but needless to say – it is exclusive and as tiny as they get!

I love it there. The only downside really is 100% of the time you’ll smell like smoke for at least 3 days. But, I think it’s totally worth it. This should always be the last stop as things don’t get going here till around 1am. Very intimate, Benny at the door can be tough, but if you’re with or ARE the right people, you’re good.

So there’s a crash course for you in the New York City Nightlife scene. The places mentioned above all have pretty strict doors, but if you have the pluckiness, I highly recommend them all.”

But…

If you’re the type that enjoys a bit more laid back spots and crowd, you can try some of these place. Sister’s Brooklyn has great live music.  For the rock’n’roll lovers try Saint Vitus Bar, in Greenpoint. We do have friend that enjoy Marie’s Crisis Cafe and pour their lung out singing Musical lyrics. Zinc Bar is a traditional Jazz Bar we absolutely love, in the Greenwich Village. Last, the Brooklyn Steel is one of the hottest spots in Brooklyn now for big live music performances.

The New York City Nightlife definitely has it all!

Charles Goldstein, a Polish-born cigar maker, was the person that idealized the project of Webster Hall back in 1886. He hired Charles Rentz as the architect for this fantastic project that was about to be born.

In the beginning, Goldstein rented the space for live performances, shows, private celebrations. In the early 1900’s it was used for socially and politically inclined purposes related to the NY immigrants.

Around the 1920, extravagant and unconventional masquerade balls took place inside the hall. These parties gathered unpopular groups like gays and lesbians, giving strength to the beginning of the LGBT community in the United States.

And, during the U.S. Prohibition Era, it was one of the most coveted speakeasies in New York City. During this time, it was allegedly owned by the Al Capone. Pretty cool, right?

After the massive fire in 1949, in the early 1950’s the place was still going strong and focused in emerging Latin talents. The venue was bought by RCA Records and was transformed to what was called the Webster Hall Studios.

There, it hosted a recording studio that worked with the biggest names in the music industry like Elvis Presley, Julie Andrews, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennet. Another big list of icons are known for recording their albums on the Grand Ballroom stage.

In mid 1980, it was renamed The Ritz and was one of the top rock’n’roll and punk club. There, guests were able to see live bands perform for the 1st time in North America. Who? Bands like U2, Depeche Mode and The Cure.

In 1992, when the club culture was at its heights peak, the Webster Hall was reborn.

Today, the Webster Hall is an architectural gem with 40,000 square foot. In 2008 it was considered by the Landmarks Preservation Commission a New York City landmark with an incredible history and tradition.

It has 3 amazing spaces where you can enjoy different performances. The Grand Ballroom has the capacity to host 1500 people, the Marlin Room, 600 and The Studio holds 400 guests.

The best parties? Well, the Halloween party and their New Year’s Eve party attract people from all over the globe!

So, take a look at their upcoming events.

There are other countless speakeasy spots in New York, so be sure to explore them. To visit other amazing spots in the East Village, you might want to start by these three.

Afraid to get lost? Don’t be! These are the situations you’ll have the opportunity of finding the most amazing places in town!

To start, the cost of The Surrey Hotel’s renovation was over $60million. The result? Spectacular, of course!

Build in the 1920’s, it’s one of the most luxurious hotels in town with almost 200 rooms and suites.

“Built in 1926 as a residence hotel, the original Surrey was home to many of New York’s most eccentric celebrities. JFK, Bette Davis, Claudette Colbert, and other famous faces who recognized the allure of exceptional, discreet service.

Moreover, in re-creating The Surrey, we collaborated with acclaimed interior designer Lauren Rottet of Rottet Studio—to maintain the integrity of The Surrey’s history while modernizing New York’s most intimate address. Rottet’s inspiration was a New York City townhouse passed down through the generations.”

In other words, if you have a super high-end lifestyle, but a very low-key mindset, this is the perfect place for you to stay.

You can surely expect a breathtaking experience. We’ll explain:

The hotel offers everything from a fantastic fitness center and spa treatments, to private cocktail experiences and private roof garden.

At the Pleiades Bar, decorated with an art deco vibe (bring us back to Coco Chanel’s time), you’ll be indulged by a unique cocktail experience. Who’s the name behind this all? The famous bartender, Darryl Chan. His Cranberry Granita Champagne Cocktail is a winner!

Here is what Gael Greene, of The New York Times, says about the dining experience:

“If you hunger for constancy and dignity, it’s time for Café Boulud. The big cheese himself, Daniel Boulud, may be downtown at Daniel, on the road peddling his pots, or cooking for charity. He’s given a talented protégé…leave to invent within his café’s stated quartet of themes—tradition, season, market, and a detour to foreign kitchens.”

Lastly, be sure to explore the neighborhood, where you’ll find fantastic restaurants, bar, numerous stores for the shop-a-holics.

And still, you’ll be steps from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the one and only, Central Park and other historical spots.

So, prepare yourself for a fantastic adventure in the Upper East Side of the city!
