We love everything related to Daybreaker! We’ve written about their morning dance party that  you should take a look. Their style and their concept: “a morning movement that will start your day off unlike anything else”. Expect everything related to Yoga, Dance, Wellness and Mischief!

They’re blasting off to the dance floor with moves that are outta this world. Earth Day’s around the corner, so they wanted to celebrate everything that’s ever walked, trotted, hopped and — most importantly — danced across this beautiful planet.

Then they thought, what would make it even more epic? An invite to the entire solar system, you say? Let’s. do. it.

On Wednesday, April 19th, they’re opening up the dance floor to every animal, mammal and alien-inspired costume our minds can think up, at their event called “INTERGALACTIC SAFARI: ANIMALS & ALIENS”.

And, since they’re bananas for DJ Sammy Bananas, he’ll be spinning the tunes to spin us into orbit. He’s also among the DJs For Climate Action, so it just feels right, ya know?

Plus, secret locale alert: They just locked in the Gilded Lily for this one, so buckle up and get ready to blast off in an oldie but goodie.

See you on the dance floor, and let’s inter-get-at-it at Daybreaker NYC…ohhh snap!

Wake up…and let’s dance! Tickets here!

Lastly, if you enjoy these types of healthy, fitness events to start off or end your say, take a look at this article we wrote about the upcoming New York City party scene!

Get ready, if you love the burn!

Location: The Gilded Lily | 408 West 15th Street
Date: April 19, 2017
Times: Yoga 6 – 7am | Dance 7 – 9am

André Leon Talley: A Name You MUST Know Coming to BAM Brooklyn

Events Up Coming André Leon Talley Credit Urban Socialites Magazine

If you’re into Fashion, this is a name you’ve certainly heard millions of times: André Leon Talley. How about having the opportunity to witness him speak at the BAM, in Brooklyn?

Many crave the opportunity of talking to André and picking his remarkable brain when the subject is Fashion and Art, while other crave his audacious-chic style.

Well, BAM is giving us all this opportunity! We are thrilled and decided to share it with everyone!

What is BAM? ‘The home for adventurous artists, audiences & ideas.’

BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) is a multi-arts center located in Brooklyn, New York.  For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas—engaging both global and local communities. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters.

The event is called: “André Leon Talley in conversation with Tamron Hall”.

More detail on this incredible night:

“Style icon, cultural commentator, and Vogue contributing editor André Leon Talley comes to BAM to discuss his extraordinary life and unique position as observer, critic, and participant in the spheres of art and culture.

Talley was born in the segregated South. At the age of 16, he announced that he wanted to be a magazine editor. The odds were against a young black man from North Carolina in the 1960s, but he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree at North Carolina Central University and a master’s degree in French at Brown.

In New York, he interned for Diana Vreeland, who introduced him to Andy Warhol. He worked as an editor for Warhol’s Interview magazine, then as a fashion editor for Women’s Wear Daily and, eventually, as the Paris Bureau Chief for both WWD and W.

In 1983, Talley became a writer for Vogue, and five years later was named Creative Director of the magazine, penning monthly columns, frequent features, and interviews—including the celebrated cover story on First Lady Michelle Obama in 2009.”

The Lower East Side is one of the neighborhoods in Manhattan that we’re most fond of! It’s overflowing with amazing spots, creative minds, outstanding stories…and people creating a better world and future!

We have to agree that we do love this new digital world we are living in. After all, that’s how we were born! But, we are also pretty old school when it comes to book.

What we mean?

Well, we love reading actual books, highlighting the best parts and having the book rest on our nightstand. Nothing against Kindles and iBooks, but we enjoy the fun of owning a book.

Kathryn Welsh founded the place in 1999 when she was only. It was initially named Bluestockings Women’s Bookstore, but after a few ups and downs, Kathryn decided to start an MBA. She sold the business to Brooke Lehman. Brooke reorganized the space and made it a collective, managed by a group of 6 passionate individuals.

Today, they stand strong and explain in more depth what they do:

Bluestockings is a volunteer-powered and collectively-owned radical bookstore, fair trade cafe, and activist center. They are located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. They carry over 6,000 titles on topics such as feminism, queer and gender studies, global capitalism, climate & environment, political theory, police and prisons, race and black studies, radical education, plus many more!

You can also find some good ‘ole smutty fiction, sci-fi, and poetry. They also also carry magazines, zines, journals, alternative menstrual products and other oddly hard-to-find good things.

Plus, they also host fantastic readings, workshops, performances, discussions and films almost every night. So, go take a look at their website to see their upcoming calendar!

We’re sure you will find some amazing events to attend!

Here are some of their upcoming events in April, that you might want to check out:

  • Off the Binary (8th): ‘Come and meet people who are just as confused as you are about public restrooms and getting dressed in the morning!’
  • Ukulele for Social Change (9th): ‘We will teach folks how to play songs from different historic cultural and social movements.’
  • Reading from Soviet Daughter: A Graphic Revolution (14th): ‘Soviet Daughter provides a window into the life of a rebellious, independent woman coming of age in the USSR. And, the impact of her story and spirit on her American great-granddaughter.’
  • Feminist Discussion of Masculinity (16th): ‘A safe space to discuss the gendered expectations placed on men and boys in a patriarchal society. And how these have affected, and continue to affect, all of us.’
  • Queer & Trans Artists of Color, Volume 2 Launch Party (18th): ‘A night of readings by queer and trans artists of color.’
  • Women’s / Trans’ Poetry Jam & Open Mike (20th): ‘Hosted by Vittoria Repetto—the hardest working guinea butch dyke poet on the Lower East Side.’
  • Pimps Down Ho’s Up: A Night of Stories on Sex Work, Trafficking and the Divide Between (21st): ‘Pimps Down Ho’s Up is a multi city venture addressing issues related to sex work, trafficking and notions of “choice.’
  • “Those Crazy 20-somethings” Audio Documentar(28th): ‘A 24-year-old radio producer sets out to find out how other 20-somethings are learning to become adults.’

Enjoy mingling with interesting minded people that actually have something important and relevant to share!

We’re huge fans and definitely recommend the visit!

TriBeCa Film Festival: For Confessed Cinephiles and Culture NYC Crowd

Events Up Coming Tribeca Film Festival NYC Cover

If you are a cinephile, then this is an event you can’t miss! In a few weeks, the 16th Annual Tribeca Film Festival will start and will gather some of the coolest, cultured crowd!

Events Up Coming Tribeca Film Festival NYC

Our movie expert contributor, Vicky Toni, talks a little about the upcoming TriBeCa Film Festival!

If you are a cinephile you can’t miss the 16th Annual Tribeca Film Festival.

Founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Craig Hatkoff and Jane Rosenthal, the event promotes the cultural and economic revitalization of Lower Manhattan, after 9/11.

A cultural event with strong roots in independent film that celebrates the power of storytelling in many forms. How? From film to online work, VR, gaming, music and more.

The 2017 program is incredible! Believe me!

You will be able to see the world premiere of blockbusters-to-be like ‘The Circle’, with Emma Watson and Tom Hanks, and exclusive talks with cast and directors like Quentin Tarantino. The closing night will have a screening of the Godfather, at Radio City, with a reunion of the original cast. How awesome is that?

And there’s more! The festival announced last year the Snapchat shorts category, which means you can create and submit your own storytelling! Submissions for this year are closed, but you can try next year!

A little bit more about the Festival:

Tribeca is a platform for creators and community members to consider how film, culture, and art affect the world and city in which we live.
The annual Tribeca Film Festival helps filmmakers reach the broadest possible audience, enabling the international film community and general public to experience the power of independent, socially-minded cinema.”

So, if you’ve never been there, do see their schedule and try out a few sessions! You’ll most certainly love it!
And last, the Summer Screen in Williamsburg can also be a great option, if you’re into these types of culture NYC movie-screening events!

Date: April 19-30, 2017
Location: Festival Hub at Spring Studios – 50 Varick Street

Tickets: https://tribecafilm.com/festival

This is a fantastic opportunity to listen to some experts speak about Funding, Business Development, Marketing and Branding!

About the event:

“Companies at an early stage seek unique ways to stand out in a competitive business environment. In addition, success requires strategic planning, corporate governance, funding and a great level of creativity and critical thinking.

So, how do you pace your efforts for growth without compromising your business development for scaling too soon? Plus, what strategies have been proven to work to increase sales at a very early business stage?

We have invited a group of panelists to share best practices for startups to accelerate growth without compromising the quality of their products & services and ensure long life for their brands.

Furthermore, there will be an open discussion with opportunities for entrepreneurs and business developers to ask questions and also share their own experiences.
