Now, let us tell you about the last show we did! We had 3 fantastic bands performing and an amazing, off the beaten path spot! See below:

Zé Luis Oliveira

Our Experts Recaps Sofar Sounds Bushwick Ze Luis Oliveira

Zé Luis Oliveira is a renowned Brazilian composer, saxophonist, flutist, producer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist. His career is fantastic for he’s performed and recorded with some of the biggest names in the Brazilian music scene known worldwide like Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Cazuza, Bebel Gilberto and Tania Maria.

He moved to NYC in 1990 and never moved back to Rio de Janeiro, his hometown. Furthermore, Zé received his Masters in Composition and Arranging from the super famous Juilliard School, in NYC.

In 2015, he launched The Atelier Music Studio, in Long Island City, a highly effective multipurpose workspace.

And still, he holds 4 Grammy nominations: 3 for Best Contemporary World Music Album and 1 for Best Latin Pop Album.

We wrote a great post about his musical journey!

Natalie Hart

Our Experts Recaps Sofar Sounds Bushwick Natalie Hart

Natalie Hart is another friend of mine – yes, I have awesome friends, lol – that I’ve had the honor to have perform at a Sofar Sounds curated by us! Her energy and her style, just drove the crowd wide and crazy in love with her!

Natalie was born in Dallas Texas and her contact with music started even before being born.

She told us that: “My musical influences stem back to my love for the dramatique and the singular, unmistakable voices of the classic female vocalists of the 1940s.”

And still, that her inspirations come from big names like Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Sarah Vaughan.

She is days from debuting an album called “Curtains”, that was literally 5-yeas in the making, we’re pretty excited for that!

In addition, if you want to go to her launch party, be sure to guarantee your ticket(s), before it gets sold out!

Frank Bell

Our Experts Recaps Sofar Sounds Bushwick Frank Bell

Last, but certainly not least, Frank Bell really got the crowd going with his folky, neo-soul acoustic rock!

He’s a Sofar Sounds veteran, a singer, a songwriter and, according to him, a foodie and a picture taker!

Originally a classically-trained cellist, Frank later expanded his instrumental arsenal as a way to further express himself as an artist.

He’s been featured everywhere from MTV and the Sundance Film Festival, to Times Square NYE Concert. In addition, he’s an official Music Brand Ambassador for Skype which since has led to his participation on a panel at TED 2014!

Take a look at his website, or follow him on social media, to know where he’ll be performing next!

Venue: Moto Spirits Distillery

Our Experts Recaps Sofar Sounds Bushwick Cheers

Moto Spirits Distillery not only was an amazing place to host our Sofar Sounds curated night, but they really engaged with the guests!

They briefly talked about their whiskey and actually gave a small sample for everyone that night, with a great group toast!

“Small batch, rice-based whiskeys and specialty spirits discovered during motorcycle trips around the world. Handcrafted in America’s first rice whiskey distillery, adventurous spirits inspired by travel and made in Brooklyn, New York.”

Take a look at their website below to see where you can find and purchase their whiskeys!

Out Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018

I’m a huge fan of the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival, not only because I’m vegetarian, going on vegan myself, but because it’s very friendly and fun for non-vegetarian too.

It’s a great place to go to understand more about this up and coming lifestyle, how to substitute your proteins – that are always a huge issue when you stop eating meat – and to find out fantastic brands and vendors around the city and state of New York, as well as from across the country.

Take a look below at the highlights of this past edition that happened on May 19th and 20th at the Metropolitan Pavilion, in Manhattan! We had an amazing time!

Marty’s V Burger

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 Martys V Burger

Oh, we love Marty and everything he serves! We’ve even done a YouTube video on vegan restaurants featuring them!

As they say, it’s a “Fast Food. No Bull.” type of food. His burgers are literally some of the best in the city.

They are all house-made and I promise that the meat eaters will never believe they are eating vegan food!

His best seller is the Original World Famous Burger – a burger patty topped with melted cheddar “cheese”, special sauce, pickles, and crisp shredded lettuce, on a sesame seed bun!

We are completely addicted to it, and we’re sure you will to, regardless for being a meat eater! Promise!

Munk Pack

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 Munk Park

“On-the-go deliciousness for all life’s adventures.”

They have a great line of protein cookies and Oatmeal Fruit Squeeze that are a great snack to have with you not only during the day, but also during your outdoor adventures!

They are perfect for breakfast, during the long office hours, at school, before or after workouts and yes, for the outdoor trips!

All portable, healthy, great tasting, minimally processed, without the additives and fillers.

Love Beets

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 Love Beets

“We’re defying all previous notions of beets with our upbeat, fun and tasty beet products!”

Yes they are! I do truly love beets and everything done with beets!

Love Beets started with a great couple spreading their expertise and love for beets and has now grown to having their own state-of-the-art production facility in Rochester, New York!

They have everything from baby beets, cooked beets, salad & snacks, beet juice and even beet powder!

The beet, berry and ginger smoothie is great to start you off!

I personally loved it!

Pure Batch

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 Pure Batch

“Don’t fear the treat!” I certainly don’t!

This is what you should try when it’s your day to splurge on your diet. I’m the type of person that actually has to eat something sweet every day, just to keep the fire burning, if you know what I mean. Ha! Well, Pure-Batch has some of the most amazing vegan, organic, gluten-free, soy-free and peanut-free sweets!

Each batch is designed to give your body a healthy dose of protein, fiber, fat + low-glycemic sugar. I loved their ChoCoNut Truffle, the Cookie DŌ Truffle and the Wise Pignoli Cookies!

Their pasta is made from chickpea – a superfood – and it’s out of this world awesome, so it’s time to ditch the empty carbs in wheat noodles.

The taste? Unbelievably addictive and delicious! You’ll finally be able to eat pasta guilt-free

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 Cedars

“Know better Hommus. ”

Ok. I’m also completely addicted to hummus. Once I open it at home, I can easily finish an entire pot alone, if I don’t control myself.

That said, Cedar’s sells some of the most delicious hummus, in my opinion. Their story starts back across the ocean in the Mediterranean, but continued in the US, when they decided to spread their love.

They infused different combinations of spices and veggies until they came up with new and exciting flavors.

Today they’ve expanded to their fresh Mediterranean Salads, Greek yogurt-based Dips, Salsa, Pita Chips, Wraps and—of course— their legendary Tzatziki. Hard to know to what buy first!

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 Hodo

“Inspiring adventures in good food!”

Since Hodo’s early days at farmer’s markets in 2004, Hodo has made tofu enthusiasts out of top chefs and home cooks who never noticed plant-based protein before.

It’s delicious, plus USDA Organic, Non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, kosher certified, and an excellent source of protein.

They have a line of ready-to-eat, delicious tofu and yuba meals. What’s Yuba?

They explain: “It’s the top-layer goodness that we hand skim after we warm our super creamy organic soy milk. With a mellow flavor and the texture of an al dente noodle, yuba is a protein-packed marvel that’s the perfect-match for the Hodo kitchen’s favorite recipes.”

Follow Your Heart

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 Follow Your Heart

“Live healthy!”

I love every single product by these guys! They have everything from Vegenaise, Vegan Gourmet & Gluten-Free Bakery, Vegan Cheese Slices, VeganEgg, and Dressings.

It all started back in the 1970’s when Bob, Spencer, Michael and Paul, four young, bushy-haired hippies in Southern California opened a seven-seat soup, salad, and sandwich counter in the back of a small natural food store in the San Fernando Valley.

They were serving a small local community in Canoga Park that was soon to expand across the country.

Today, they’ve expanded their passion for great-tasting, healthy foods, and believe that we should all have compassion for all living things and have a responsibility to be good stewards to the environment! We support!

Sail Away

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 Sail Away Coffee

“The new black!”

Sail Away started from the love of a Long Islander musician for good coffee that grew after a specific trip to Colombia! I’m a huge coffee lover myself and the more, the merrier!

Plus, we all know that Colombia, as well as Brazil, has some of the best coffees on Earth!

So, he began crafting his own premium single origin roasts, blends and signature cold brew. So, as they say: “Live Young!”

P-Nuff Crunch

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 PNuffs

“Unleash The Power of Plant Protein!”

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 Purium

“Helping People & the Earth”

100 years ago, all food was organic. It grew in clean, mineral-rich soil and clean, mineral-rich water. Even our food distribution system has created waste in food, carbon and land – while encouraging the use of chemicals, herbicides, pesticides and more.

Today, real food has been replaced by corporate-produced fast, cheap, addictive, processed food-like stuff.

Purium offers a solution that benefits our bodies as well as the Earth.

They take fresh, non-GMO, organic produce from the field and convert nearly 100% of it into stable powder that can last for up to 2 years. They are committed to education and sharing that knowledge with you, and offer certified kosher and certified organic food products.

All of their creations are hand crafted in micro batches, with the finest plant ingredients, and topped off with a whole lot of love.

They believe in the radical idea that if it goes on your skin it should be good for you!

That’s why they leave out all of the junk, so you’ll never find any nasty chemicals, gross fillers, or downright unpronounceable words in any of their products.

Save Haven Farm Sanctuary

Located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this Michelin Starred restaurant serves tapas, paellas and sangrias in a charming space.

With an innovative cooking style, Chef Manuel invited a great group of Influencers, Bloggers, and other NY food experts for a private dinner. We were thrilled to be part of this fantastic group!

To start, the tapas we tasted during this special night were:

  • Airbags con Queso Manchego y Membrillo
  • Nidos de Codorniz
  • Champiñones Rellenos
  • Bravas “Tradición”
  • Alcachofas con Queso Manchego
  • Pulpo a la Gallega
  • Albóndigas con Encurtidos
  • Berenjena
  • Calamares y Ajo Blanco
  • Ensaladilla de Salmón

Then, the main course was a Paella de Mariscos. For desserts we had:

  • Tarta de Santiago – traditional almond cake with raspberries and extra virgin olive oil gelato
  • Tocinillo de Cielo – caramelized yolk flan with lemon gel, green apple and dried merengue.

Hard to say which one was the best! We are sure you’ll have a great dinner experience and welcome to Spain!

Redeeming the essence of handicrafted work with New York artisans

Our Founder, Fê Paronetto, attended a unique weaving class at Space Ninety 8,in Williamsburg. The significance and presence of handcrafted work continues to grow with local New York artisans.

Handcrafted fashion and handcrafted work has definitely a new meaning today since everything is currently “Made in China”, right? The more customized the better and, when it’s handcrafted, by New York artisans, we love it even more.

This workshop was definitely a must-go for those who believe in creating art with your own hands!

Our Founder, Fê Paronetto, attended a super cool weaving class at Space Ninety 8, in Williamsburg. The afternoon was with the super talented Ahna, Founder of Prissage Studio.

To start, a space sectioned off, within the store, dedicated to the workshop. Urban Outfitters provided some pretty great refreshments, which everyone enjoyed.

As soon as the workshop started, we were provided (to keep!): a handmade wooden loom, tools to weave with – 2 shuttle sticks, a weaving sword, tapestry needle, yarn to finish your tapestry and further instructions.

Plus, it was a 3 hours long course since weaving is a very intensive process. Even so, many people weren’t able to finish their first wall hanging tapestry in class. Ahna taught everyone how continue it at home and finish the piece.

Fê created a tiny one and had enough time to finish it. Take a look at the gallery above to see the final result. Not a pro, but was worth a try…hahaha!

We really enjoyed this unique and fun day with Prissage Studio!

If you like this type of work, take a look at a few home decor stores! We love BDDW, From the Source and Yes Please.
