Exploring The Coolest Spots In Industry City, Sunset Park

Curiosities Our Bucket Lists Industry City Frying Pan BK Outdoor Area

Some of New York’s coolest spots are located in Industry City. This area of Brooklyn has been completely transformed from old warehouses, into a fantastic center with thriving local Brooklyn-based businesses!

Back in the 1890’s Sunset Park, in Brooklyn, was full of warehouses and distribution centers.

Industry City was called Bush Terminal and in no time, had over 25,000 daily workers, transforming it into one of the world’s major international seaports.

By the 1960’s businesses started to close down and the area was practically abandoned for over 40 years.

Finally, in 2013, a new group started to renovate and redevelop the area. Today, they’ve created over 2,000 jobs and have leased over 2million square feet to new local businesses that are now thriving!

We came here today to show you a few of the coolest spots to visit, while you in the neighborhood!

Drinks and Food Crawl in Brooklyn with Eat and Be Full

I had the greatest time with Jared, from Eat and Be Full, shooting for our YouTube Channel! He took me to some of his favorite food and drink spots in Williamsburg, Brooklyn! I’m sure you’ll love the video and have a fantastic time with us! We did laugh a lot!

I met Jared Zuckerman back in 2015 in a foodie event I went to with another dear friend called Jabber Al-Bihani, founder of Komeeda! And, I have to say, I was instantly captivated by his charm and bustling energy!

Jared is the Owner & Founder of Food and City, a consulting and brand development company who has flooded social media with some of today’s most viral food concepts. He works with some of NY’s top restaurants and is also an influencers as @EatandBeFull on Instagram.

It took some time to actually reconnect after meeting him, but after we did, we just stayed in touch! The conversation of shooting a video was going on for a few months, until we were finally able to actually find a date in common that worked for both of us. Phiuf!

And, voilá! We hope you love the final result, as we did!

Below are the places we went to and we’re sure you’ll get quite a few laughs out of the video!

The Bedford

Dining Drinks Food Crawling Williamsburg Brooklyn Jared Zuckerman EatandbeFull The Bedford

I’ve written about The Bedford a while back and have been there quite a couple of times myself. It’s truly a great spot, with a peculiar story, amazing food – not only for meat eaters but also for vegans and vegetarians – and delicious cocktails.

One of the pretty interesting facts about the place is that it was actually built inside a former garage, and was transformed into a speakeasy and gastropub with an awesome, rustic décor.

We tried one of their bestsellers, the MacNCheesy, which is actually a burger with fried MacNCheese buns holding the it all together, with a delicious sauce! Plus, it’s paired with  French fries! Yum!

The Craic is also one of my to-go bars in Brooklyn and I’m there quite a lot with my friends. Why? Well, it’s surely a “locals-only” spot, they have a gorgeous full bar, a pool table and a juke box with the most fantastic playlists. It’s a place easy to simply pass by and not see it, so be sure to pay attention when looking for it!

I have to confess, every time I’m there I’m mostly hanging around the pool table, hahaha! Yes, I love playing pool and I’m pretty good at it too.

Jared is also there quite often, so much so that every time he walks in and sits at the bar, the barmen know exactly what to serve him: Old Fashion made with bourbon. I had The 488, made with Titos vodka, St. Germain, lemon juice, agave, fresh mint, strawberry, topped with a splash of soda water.

Oh, and they have a daily Happy Hour ‘til 8pm.

If you’re into watching sports, Roebling Sporting Club is the place to go. This local sports bar gathers a great and energetic crowd during game days and had countless TVs spread throughout the walls. So don’t worry, you’ll be able to watch the game from different angles.

They have Trivia nights every Wednesday from 8pm – 10pm.

And, if you’re into singing and showing your artistic soul, they have a karaoke night every Friday, from 11pm – 3am, hosted by The Kings of Karaoke. Not sure about this? Well, try their Jello Shots to give you courage to go on stage!

It’s also perfect for the night owls, since it’s open ‘til 4am!

This is for the “sweet tooth” crowd out there, like us! Sweethaus is a sweet haven, so be sure to carefully look at everything they have, before purchasing!

To start, the place is very charming with a “vintagy” style décor. They are well-known for their cupcakes. I’m personally always looking for the best Red Velvet cupcakes in town and their Red Velvet is truly to-die-for.

Some other bestsellers are: Vanilla & Chocolate topped with cookie dough, Salted Caramel, and the Everything Cupcake that, as they say, is for the “salty and sweet combo lover! The chocolate cake has bits of caramel, marshmallow and oreo.  It’s then frosted with peanut buttercream and rolled in pretzels, salted caramel pieces, oreos and mini peanut butter cups.”

But wait! There’s more! At the back of the store, they have an insanely huge wall with hundreds of candy bowls to pick from! So be ready to splurge on your diet and put together your candy bag(ssss)!!!

Last, but definitely not least, Loosie Rouge! We adore this hidden spot located in South Williamsburg, an area still relatively free from tourists just like we love!

They have a few difference ambiences. As you walk into the restaurant, Loosie’s Kitchen & Café, it feels like you entering a fantasy world. The restaurant’s décor is beautiful and uplifting, with a skylight ceiling that allows natural light to come in! They serve divine local food, from a menu that changes every few weeks, which we think is pretty awesome!

The bar right next door had a separate entrance, though it’s also internally connected to the restaurant in the back. They have fantastic music and heavenly cocktails.

When we shot the video, I tried the Poached Pear Salad with baby gem, green goddess, blood orange and castelrosso. Jared, a proud meat-eater (hahaha!) had an insane dish – the Loosie’s Fried Chicken, with house pickles, biscuit and hot sauce.

There is actually so many things to try and new dishes every couple of weeks, that it’s a place you can go back again, and again, and again!

My Top Food Spots in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Dining Top Food Spots in Greenpoint Restaurants Glasserie Thumbnail

I’ve chosen a few of my top food spots in Greenpoint, Brooklyn to shoot a great video and share with you! Come see which are the spots that I love going to with my friends. I’m sure you’ll love them too!

Greenpoint has some pretty amazing places to go for lunch, brunch and dinner! As we’ve previously mentioned, the neighborhood is growing rapidly and new businesses are opening all the time.

One of the great things of Greenpoint is that, since the neighborhood is relatively small, everything is walking distance from each other and along the way you’ll probably find other amazing stores, cafés and happy hour places to go back to.

So, this time, I decided to list a few of my top food spots in Greenpoint that I truly love going to:

Glasserie

Dining Top Food Spots in Greenpoint Restaurants Glasserie

Glasserie place is super unique and quite an experience too!

Why? Well, to start, it’s inside a former glass factory dated back to the 1860’s, which I think is awesome.

It serves Mediterranean food with a few dishes inspired in Egyptian street food, has a fantastic full bar and yes, the décor is fantastic.

Oh! It’s also a great spot to celebrate an important day with your loved ones!

Location: 95 Commercial Street

The Brooklyn Barge

Dining Top Food Spots in Greenpoint Restaurants Brooklyn Barge

The Brooklyn Barge is one of my hidden gems and sometime not even locals know about it.

I’ve written about this place before and mentioned that it has maybe one of the best views on Manhattan, since it’s right by the river.

Getting there is an adventure on its own, since you’ll probably think you’re lost. You’ll pass by old warehouses and abandoned cars, but just continue walking.

They serve food and drinks and it does get quite busy!

Milk & Roses

Milk & Roses is one of my favorite spots and it will make you feel like you’re in Italy!

I love to take people that have never been to Greenpoint, to start their experience there.

The result: they always love it and want to come back!

The place is beautiful, the décor is quite special with a beautiful piano in the center of the main dining room, big red leather couches and a breathtaking garden in the back – where I always prefer sitting!

If you decide to go there on a weekend, you might take a while to sit down. So, be sure to get there early, make a reservation, or just relax at the bar with a drink, until your table is ready!

Location: 1110 Manhattan Avenue

Le Fanfare

Still in the spirit of Italy, Le Fanfare is another great option! The owner, Luca, is also the owner of Epistrophy, located in Soho!

Here, you can expect live music on weekends Jazz nights, large communal tables and a beautiful bar in the front.

Oh, they also have a small private patio in the back open during the warmer months and there are special nights where Luca plays Jazz for everyone there!

Have fun!

I’m completely in love with this restaurant, in the heart of Chinatown, and could go there EVERY SINGLE DAY OF MY LIFE!

Truly! I’ve been to the original Buddha Bodai many time and every time I go there, I love it more and more, and MORE!!

It’s a Chinese Kosher Vegetarian / Vegan and Buddhist Restaurant, but DON’T let these words haunt you! You will have one of the best experiences of your entire life! Hahaha! Yes, I really do l-o-v-e them! They are experts in serving the famous “imitation meat”!

They were founded back in 2004 and for only a couple of bucks, you’ll have a fabulous and delicious Chinese feast! Last time I was there with my friends that actually introduced me to this gem (last weekend, lol), we had a fully served table, and we only spent $12 each!!!!

We has the Dim Sum Menu – available every day till 4pm- and a few options from the normal menu.

How does ordering from the Dim Sum Menu work?

Well, you’ll get a paper menu with a huge list of options and you’ll just write, beside the dish, the quantity you want. If you order too much, no worries, just ask them to put the rest To-Go.

This is what we had from the Dim Sum Menu:

  • Bar-B-Q Vegetarian Meat – this is MY favorite dish on earth! If you’re a meat eater, you won’t believe this!
  • Vegetarian Shrimp Dumplings
  • Vegetarian Meat Buns
  • Shrimp Rice Roll
  • Fried Eggplant Stuffed with Vegetarian Meat
  • Spring Rolls
  • and Hot Tea, of course

And what we had from the Normal Menu:

  • General Tso Chicken – meat eaters also DIE for this one!
  • B.B.Q Meat Fried Rice

Yup, for only 12 bucks each + tip!

Oh! And they are a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) restaurant, so bring whatever makes you smile! If you forgot your bottle, ask anyone from the restaurant the way to the closest deli! They’ll know the way!

Meet the Chef

“Chef Dong has been delighting his patrons with exquisite vegetarian meals for over 45 years. He and his staff have created dishes and ensured that it reached the highest standards of quality and freshness.

His passion and desire to share the delicate flavors that he creates is a driving force that has kept his customers, old and new, coming back time and again.”

If you’re into vegetarian options, feel free to explore our suggestions!

Ditch Your Luggage and Go Have Fun in NYC: LuggageHero

Curiosities City Secrets LuggageHero NYC

Having long hours between connecting flights or arrive hours prior to check-in in your hotel, is surely a hassle! Plus, carrying your luggage around NYC is certainly a challenge, but LuggageHero is the perfect solution to all your problems!

Curiosities City Secrets LuggageHero NYC Girls Walking

Having long wait hours between flights during a trip is certainly annoying, but having to carry your luggage with you everywhere go is even worse, right?

Plus, the best way to commute in New York City is on the subway, but these massive stairs are a challenge on their own…imagine with your heavy bags.

So, we have the perfect, safe and convenient solution for all your problems: LuggageHero! And the name says it all!

Jannik Lawaetz founded the company in Copenhagen, back in 2016. From there, he quickly expanded in 2017 to London and, lucky us, to New York City!

The idea was to use local stores, pubs, coffee shops, dry cleaners and even hotels as a temporary storage place for people with long connecting flights or even for those who have arrived earlier than the check-in time or were “kicked out” of the hotel long before the flight home.

So, how it works? Easy!

  • Check in when arriving at the shop
  • Attach security seal that is provided for free, found in the shop, through the zippers of your bag
  • Check-out upon pick-up

And voilá! You’re ready to adventure yourself for a few hours in our beautiful concrete jungle!

BOOK NOW!

Curiosities City Secrets LuggageHero NYC Janni Copenhagen
Janni Lawaetz, Founder of LuggageHero.

“I founded LuggageHero as I got tired of not having enough convenient places to store my luggage. As I am a frequent traveler, I couldn’t believe that anyone had not solved a problem so obvious to many people.

I decided to create a concept that was simple to use, trustworthy and where you would always only pay for the hours you spend.” ~ Jannik Lawaetz, Creator & CEO

Everything is stored far from any public access in safe locations, that are also inspected by the team at Luggage Hero. So, don’t worry. It’ll be safe when you go out to have fun!

Oh, it is good to say that the location you’re dropping your back at might request to open your luggage before storing, to guarantee you don’t have any illegal item in it like weapons, etc.

Curiosities City Secrets LuggageHero NYC Girl Subway

They offer over 250 super convenient locations and are spread across Manhattan and Brooklyn, making it quite easy for you, regardless of where you’re at or where you want to spend your time exploring.

The cost in New York?

Amazingly reasonable! It’s only $2/hour per bag and the price already includes insurance with coverage up to $3,000 for each bag, against damage, loss, and theft.

But wait! You don’t pay more than $12 per bag for the first 24 hours, so don’t worry.

They do not accept money, which is actually more convenient since you don’t need to worry with having the right currency!

So, just submit your credit card information for swift drop-off and pick-up at a LuggageHero location.

If you decide along to way, not to drop it off, don’t worry! You’re only charged when you actually drop off your bags, so you won’t be charged if you changed your mind.

And last, another great thing is that you don’t need to download any app for this. You can just go online and book everything through their website.

Seamless, fast and safe, the way New Yorkers like it!

If you’re not sure what to do in NYC while you wait for your connecting flight, or to check into you hotel, take a look at all of our amazing BTSNYC Experiences! We’re sure you’ll have a great time!

His best seller is the Original World Famous Burger – a burger patty topped with melted cheddar “cheese”, special sauce, pickles, and crisp shredded lettuce, on a sesame seed bun!

We are completely addicted to it, and we’re sure you will to, regardless for being a meat eater! Promise!

Cedar’s

“Know better Hommus. ”

Ok. I’m also completely addicted to hommus. Once I open it at home, I can easily finish an entire pot alone, if I don’t control myself.

That said, Cedar’s sells some of the most delicious hummus, in my opinion. Their story starts back across the ocean in the Mediterranean, but continued in the US, when they decided to spread their love.

They infused different combinations of spices and veggies until they came up with new and exciting flavors.

Today they’ve expanded to their fresh Mediterranean Salads, Greek yogurt-based Dips, Salsa, Pita Chips, Wraps and—of course— their legendary Tzatziki. Hard to know to what buy first!

Purium

Our Experts Recaps BTSNYC NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2018 Purium

“Helping People & the Earth”

100 years ago, all food was organic. It grew in clean, mineral-rich soil and clean, mineral-rich water. Even our food distribution system has created waste in food, carbon and land – while encouraging the use of chemicals, herbicides, pesticides and more.

Today, real food has been replaced by corporate-produced fast, cheap, addictive, processed food-like stuff.

Purium offers a solution that benefits our bodies as well as the Earth.

They take fresh, non-GMO, organic produce from the field and convert nearly 100% of it into stable powder that can last for up to 2 years. They are committed to education and sharing that knowledge with you, and offer certified kosher and certified organic food products.

We love it too! Previously owned by no one less than John D. Rockefeller, Jr., in the year of 1931, he gifted the property to the City of New York. What a gift, right?

Construction started and 4 years later, in 1935, Rockefeller and Robert Moses – the “master builder” of mid-20th century, officialized the park as a public space for everyone to be able to visit! Lucky us!

#1 Berimbau do Brasil

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Berimbau Moqueca a Baiana

We love Berimbau do Brazil and we’ve written about them before. So, lets refresh your memory with what we said!

Berimbau do Brasil has been one of the small and trendy Brazilian spots in the Greenwich Village, since 2009. The restaurant is named after a very popular Brazilian instrument called “berimbau”, that has African roots and is used in the capoeira martial arts dance.

The restaurant is small, cozy, with a rustic décor, and great service (as most Brazilian spots have), plus, the food is truly fantastic. It’s loved not only by the meat eaters, but also vegetarians. Portions are very generous, so feel free to share different dishes and try a bit of it all.

What to try? The acarajé, Pão de Queijo (cheese bread) and pastel (a type of Brazilian empanada), as appetizers. For the mains, we love the picadinho carioca, bobó de camarão, the famous feijoada and the moqueca à Baiana. Dessert? The brigadeiro, of course – a chocolate truffle sweet loved by all Brazilians.

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Tap NYC Mushroom Cheese Tapioca

Tap NYC opened not too long ago, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and has been attracting clients from all over the city, as well as visitors. With delicious variations of the famous tapioca – a starch extracted from cassava root, originally from the Northeastern part of Brazil – it’s become a to-go spot.

As they explain: “Tapioca is gluten-free, sodium-free, fat-free, and cholesterol free, with no added preservatives!” Sounds perfect, right?

The place is great, décor is bright and spacious!

Tapioca options vary from countless savory ones, to sweet ones. Plus, they still offer, salads, Brazilian bites, açai bowls, matcha drinks, juices, smoothies, teas. And, of course, great coffee like every true Brazilian loves.

#3 Padoca Bakery

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Padoca Bakery Challah Bread

When you walk inside Padoca Bakery, a traditional Brazilian bakery, you are immediately absorbed by an incredibly irresistible smell of fresh baked goods!

Located in the Upper East Side, the place has great natural lighting, that is certainly a highlight. Their menu is fantastic for a quick breakfast, to a filling and healthy lunch. They have fresh pastries done in-house, savory ones too, cookies, brownies and açai bowls. Coffee is very good too!

In addition they also offer catering services and whole cakes for special celebrations, also freshly baked! We love the bolo de coco that is a very fluffy and moist coconut cake! Yum!

To read more about them, check out this post we’ve done!

Location: 359 East 68th Street

#4 Fogo de Chão

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Fogo de Chao New York

Ah! This is for the big carnivores out there! Fogo de Chão is one of the most famous and respected churrascarias in Brazil.

They’ve also gained international recognition “exporting” a great team of Brazilian meat experts to run the overseas locations. It is said that only their Brazilian team touches and cuts the meat since there is a special way to accentuate its flavor by doing so.

The side dishes are also to die for, from the arroz caipira (a type of rice), to the fantastic salad table with everything you can ever imagine eating.

The meat is served in a “rodizio” style, that means that you pay a fix price and eat as much as you want.

Waiters pass by the table with different meat options and you can choose the ones you’d like to try, or reorder more of the same. After you’re satisfied, you just signal you’re done by flipping a paper coin (one side is green meaning you want to be served / the other is red that means you’re done).

Location: 40 West 53rd Street

#5 Casa Restaurant

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Casa Restaurant Lula

We love places that are able to host only a very small number of guests at a time. The intimate space definitely makes it an amazing experience.

Casa Restaurant, located in the West Village, is one of these great spots. With a very traditional Brazilian menu, they offer some of the best Brazilian comfort-food selection.

As appetizers, our top picks are the: pão de queijo, pastéis (or empanadas) and  mandioca frita (yucca sticks).

A great dish to start from, if you’ve never tried Brazilian food, is the well-known Feijoada – black bean stew with prime meats served with white rice, fresh oranges, collard greens, farofa and vinaigrette sauce.

Their sandwiches, also very typical, are fantastic. Which ones to pick? Try starting with the bauru de carne made with pita bread, steak, melted cheese, lettuce and tomatoes.

Now, if you enjoy a good cocktail, the traditional caipirinha (cachaça, sugar and lime) is always our cocktail choice.

#6 Empórium Brasil

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Emporium Brasil Picanha

Located in the heart of Manhattan, Empórium Brasil’s food has been compared, by Brazilians, to their mom’s or grandma’s food. Always a good nostalgic feeling, for sure!

They are known for having a great service and very friendly staff. Definitely a plus, right?!

As always, never skip ordering the appetizers. They are very unique and delicious.

One of their top signature dishes are the short ribs, but we particularly love the famous camarão na moranga. This is a quite unique dish made from fresh acorn squash stuffed with shrimp, hearts of palm and catupiry cheese. Yes, this is one of the top Brazilian dishes that is considered a “national passion”! Very, very flavorful.

The vatapá is also a great pick. It’s a typical dish from Bahia, a state in the Northeastern part of the country. It’s basically made with purée of bread crumbs and smoked shrimp with peanuts and cashews flavored with coconut milk and palm oil.

Their menu is very diverse, with everything from grilled steak and poultry, to seafood and pastas, but you can’t really go wrong.

Location: 15 West 46th Street

#7 Oca

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Oca New York Tapioca

We love Tapioca! Why? As Oca, located in the neighborhood of NoLita, says: it’s gluten, dairy, GMO, preservatives, fat, sugar, cholesterol and guilt FREE!

All the ingredients used at Oca organic and very fresh, purchased from local farmers. Hence, many ingredients are seasonal, but that just makes it more exciting.

Besides the tapioca crepes, they have appetizers like the famous pão de queijo, a few different salads, a few wraps, the to-die-for açai bowls and some tasty desserts. Plus, they offer not only Vegetarian option, but Vegan ones too!

To drink, their cashew nut shakes are delicious and we like the avocado one, or apple + cinnamon. Like every good Brazilian, coffee is a biggy. They have a good variation. The Hot Vegan Nocciolata is an interesting pick!

Location: Their Mott Street store is closed. Stay tuned for updates on our secret location.

#8 Cafe Patoro

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Patoro Pao de Queijo Coffee

This café, located step from the Brooklyn Bridge, in the East part of the Financial District, also known as South Seaport, is a great upscale option to go for breakfast, lunch or an afternoon snack.

The place is well-known for the love for the famous Pão de Queijo (PDQ). They explain what it is: “PDQ is a small gluten-free cheese-bread roll. Featuring a perfect balance of crispy outside and chewy inside, PDQs are the most delectable when hot, right out of the oven.” It’s actually hard to explain, so I guess you’ll have to get one and try!

They offer a few variations of the mini PDQ sandwiches, something that is not so easy to find in New York City. This is surely one of the specialties you must try.

For the bigger bites, try the empanadas, the Brazilian grilled cheese and the corn bread.

Talking about sweets, we are fans of the brigadeiro cake – a variation made from the famous brigadeiro, a type of chocolate truffle made with condensed milk. Also try the flan and the carrot cake.

If you’re going to celebrate a special date, they offer great catering services, as well as beautiful packaging or gifts. And trust us: it will be the best gift ever!

They offer a free brigadeiro when you check in on Yelp too! Ha!

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Churrascaria Plataforma Cocktails

Churrascaria Plataforma, located in the Theater District, is called the The New York Yankees of Brazilian Steakhouses. Raved about by legions of fans and the best known food critics.

A New York Daily News writer once wrote:

“I’ve been asked a lot over the course of the year which New York restaurants I’d be most likely to visit out of personal choice rather than professional responsibility. The name I heard myself uttering in response, more than any other, was Churrascaria Plataforma.”

As they explain: “Churrascaria (choo-rah-scah-ree-ah) is the name used to describe a restaurant that serves meat, mostly grilled. A Rodizio style restaurant uses the method of serving different cuts of meat that originated in the south of Brazil in the early 1800s.”

You’re able to find everything from the heavier dishes, like the Feijoada, to lighter ones with seafood. So, there is something for everyone, regardless of your daily-crave.

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Ipanema NYC

Drooling already? We are!

They use all ingredients within 48 hours of delivery. The serving presentation is exquisite and is quite distinct from most other Brazilian restaurants in the city. In fact, their presentation is exceptional compared to New York City restaurants in general.

They’ve made believers of the folks at Gothamist, who remarked that the eatery’s bowl concept “sounds cliché at this point, but it’s hard to get too cynical about it when everything tastes this good.”

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York Rice N Beans Picanha Sandwich

Rice N Beans has been serving authentic Brazilian cuisine to New Yorkers for over 25 years. Located in Hell’s Kitchen, its namesake ingredients, rice and beans, stand out from other Latin American eateries because of the culinary talents of Executive Chef Carlos Roberto Inácio.

“I used to observe my mom cooking in (the Brazilian state of) Minas Gerais, so I learned how to cook in a different way, how to bring special seasoning to the dishes”, Chef Inácio explains.

The result is represented in a traditional Brazilian cuisine with intense flavors of garlic, onion, tomato, and coconut.

#21 The Coffee Shop

Dining 36 Brazilian Restaurants In New York The Coffee Shop Salmon

We love this place! It’s always very busy and loud, but nonetheless, it’s in our hearts!

The Coffee Shop is an iconic all-night Brazilian eatery that’s been around for decades and is open 23 hours a day. Located at Union Square, it’s fun, it’s noisy and it’s full of the pretty and the hip.

It’s famous for the sidewalk people watching tables, sort of like a classic Parisian bistro.

The service can be hit or miss, but many of the servers are aspiring models, actual models or could pass for models – which may make up for the slow service for some.

The herb fries are particularly popular, but The Coffee Shop offers plenty of other choice fare, like the pão de queijo. Likewise, the shrimp Baiano, a shrimp stew from Bahia, that comes with kale, fried plantains and plenty of white rice, is utterly delicious.

You might also want to try the granola bowl with fresh fruits and yogurt that is pretty good too and well served!

The food you love, veganized.

A while ago, we were invited by a dear friend of ours, to go up to Harlem and try this amazing local vegan restaurant.

Our answer immediately was “Yes! Of course!”. Our Founder is vegetarian, going on vegan and we just love everything we can learn about this growing lifestyle.

We really enjoy Harlem and everything about that neighborhood, from the restaurants, to the vibe, to the shops and nightlife. Everything there has a special taste. The uniqueness is hard to describe.

Getting there was, of course, super easy and in no time, we dropped off 110 Street Station Central Park North, on the 2/3 (red line).

Just a 5-minute walk from there, we arrived at Seasoned Vegan, Harlem’s very 1st full-service Vegan restaurant.

We were very lucky to be hosted exclusively by the owner, Brenda and her son Aaron Beener.

Our restaurant specializes in preparing a very unique type of cuisine: gourmet vegan soul food. We use the term “soul food” loosely because we are not referring exclusively to the typical cuisine of the Southern region of the United States.

This sounds great and extremely normal, right? Now, imagine back in the 1980’s, when Brenda decided to go vegan with her family! The entire community judged them and didn’t really get what they were doing, nor why.

In the beginning of this journey, during Thanksgiving celebrations, no one would invite them over after this dietary decision. Brenda even mentioned that they literally felt as if they were aliens.

But, as time went by, little by little people from their community started to open up, tried her dishes and now, every-single-person wants to be invited to her Thanksgiving parties! Haha!

The restaurant was finally founded in 2014 and is quite spacious, with great natural light that certainly give it more life! You can see through inside the kitchen and peek in to see how everything is prepared.

The dishes are organic and 100% vegan! If you’re the carnivore type, we truly recommend you to give it a chance and stop by. We are certain they won’t disappoint you.

It’s incredible how all the dishes we’ve tried are extremely flavorful and clearly made with love.

So, you might want to try:

  • Lemon Crusted “Chicken” Nuggets: fermented soy chicken nuggets breaded and fries
  • Stuffed Avocado: one avocado sliced, pitted and filled with almond meat and topped with cashew “cheese” and pico de gallo. Seasonal and Gluten free
  • Raw Lasagna: raw zucchini sliced and cashew “cheese” layered into shredded spinach, topped with homemade raw marinara. Gluten free

In addition, for dessert we ate one of the best Red Velvet cupcake of our lives!

And still, if you’re not able to go there, or if you need to schedule a quick pick-up, you can do it all online, though their website.

For the master chefs out there, stay tuned! Brenda has had plans of launching her own vegan cook book with yummy recipes. We hope it comes out soon!

Be sure to enjoy and explore the neighborhood before or after going to Seasoned Vegan!

Lastly, if you’re also a fan of Harlem, you might enjoy some of the places that the beauty Africa Miranda shared with us!
