The other day we were going through a list of local artists we wanted to interview. We bumped again into James Barber’s name, Founder of Yes Pls, selling functional sculptures from Brooklyn.
We’ve mentioned this countless times: Brooklyn is the home of some of the most talented and creative artists in New York. The neighborhood is filled with upcoming and established artists sending their message out to the world in the most diverse ways.
It’s impossible to get tired of exploring and uncovering who is the next up and coming artist that will rock New York City!
We have heard about James Barber, Founder of Yes Pls, a while back. When we saw his work, we evidently fell in love immediately.
James has worked for over 10 years with molding and casting. He creates really unique and functional pieces that will give your home a pretty unique type of personality.
You’ll find items from shelves and other items made of wood, to sculptures like skull incense holders. There are mini tripods that are great to place small flowers or our cactus friends. And still, his disruptive and quite interesting concrete teeth ashtrays will surely make your guests curious.
Everything from Yes Pls is certainly extremely creative and rather peculiar! Probably, the reason why we enjoy his pieces so much! The more disruptive and funky looking, the better!
James lives and works in Brooklyn, but you can find his work online.
If you are the type that loved to learn new endeavors, take a look at what the workshops at Brooklyn Brainery are all about! They are a community-driven place where artists volunteer to teach their expertise. Another hand-on course you might enjoy, that is certainly therapeutical too, is at the Flower School NY, located in Chelsea.
