We contribute with Glamour Brazil magazine and on this post we wrote about great spots for tastings in New York and Upstate.
Here is the Portuguese version and below, the English version:
New York is not only a perfect place for people who love art, shows, nightlife, shopping, gastronomy, but the “city that never sleeps” offers great options for those who enjoy wine, beer, whiskey and gin tastings.
Since several of these tastings take place inside their own factories, many are located in Brooklyn – a neighborhood big enough to host these huge buildings.
Another cool spot is a winery only 2 hours from Manhattan with tastings, outdoor yoga classes and happy hours with jazz music.
The Red Hook Winery
Located at the far end of Brooklyn, the Red Hook Winery is one of the coolest places to experience a wine tasting session.
You’ll walk into a super rustic, brick building, founded in 1088 by a real Brooklynite, Mark Snyder and two friends born in Napa that have always worked with wineries – Abe Schoener and Robert Foley.
Red Hook Winery offers amazing tastings served with beautifully arranged cheese plates. Prices range from $5 to $35, which is surely reasonable, right?
Hours: Tastings take place every day from 11am – 5pm
Location: Pier 41 – 325 A, 175 – 204 Van Dyke Street, in Red Hook, Brooklyn
Brooklyn Brewery
The Brooklyn Brewery founded in 1988, offers delicious craft beer that are incredible for a lunch or dinner experience.
The brewery has been producing tasty beers that enrich life, tradition and culture within the community it’s part of.
Also, its award-winning roaster that works year long produces seasonal and specialty beers that brought notoriety to the brewery as one of the best producers of craft beers in the world.
Hours:
Monday – Thursday (reservation only): 5pm – 7pm – for small batch tours
Friday: 6pm – 11pm; free tours are available only at 7pm and 8pm
Saturday: 12pm – 8pm for tours & tastings
Sunday: 12pm – 6pm for tours & tastings
Location: 79 North 11th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
NY Distilling Company
Produced with sustainable ingredients and prioritizing grain producers from New York, the NY Distilling Company, in Brooklyn produces gin and rye whiskey, sometimes just called “rye”.
The work of the New York Distilling Company was inspired by the career and passion of Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry, part of the Brooklyn Navy Yard between the years 1841-1843. And also, by the famous Poet and American writer Dorothy Parker, who was an iconic gin enthusiast.
The Rye is still going through the aging process so it may take a while to get the ideal tasting stage. In time, the owners Allen Katz, Bob and Tom Potter Potter decided to open a full cocktail bar.
In addition to whiskey and rye, they also offer different beers. Certainly one of the great spots for tastings!
Hours: Weekends: 3pm – 5pm, with live music that starts at 4pm
Location: 79 Richardson Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Wolffer Estate Vineyard
The Wolffer Estate Vineyard is one of the most famous wineries near New York City, located in the heart of the Hamptons (the supreme summer refuge of cool New Yorkers), and one of the most beautiful regions of the State.
The property is a former potato farm and today was transformed into more than 71 hectares, being 23 hectares exclusive to wine.
The place is wonderful and they offer several cool programs for those who want to spend the day there. Activities such as: “casual” Friday with good music, Saturday afternoon wine tastings, yoga at the winery, wine classes, Wednesdays harmonization, on Tuesdays their “Twilight Tuesdays” with wine tasting and live jazz music. They even offer exhibition of amazing artists throughout the year.
Do take a look at their website and try to see which option you prefer. If you’re in doubt, try them all!
